I am trying to setup an Alexa routine to announce person detected if Wyze detects motion. I had done this earlier in a previous home, but had to reset up my stuff when i moved.
Now when I create the Alexa routine, it says “ ERROR This device is not currently supported” for my cameras that are v3 and v4 ( i understand v2 cameras are not supported). Why is this? Am I missing the proper instructions for setting up a simple routine? My v3 pro is selectable in an Alexa routine, but weirdly the routine never fires.
I was able to do this just recently with a Cam v4, which I mentioned in another topic. You might want to take a look at that one and consider some of the following questions:
Is your Amazon account for Amazon in the United States, or is it for a different country?
Is your Cam Unlimited subscription active? (I see that you tagged your topic with cam-unlimited.)
Are your cameras properly connected to that subscription? That should be necessary if you want to actually use person detection, but in your opening sentence you wrote “if Wyze detects motion”, so I’m not quite sure if you’re specifically trying to use person detection as a trigger or if you want the Alexa Routine to run based on some type of generic motion event.
What additional detail can you share about the Routine you’re using with your Cam v3 Pro that isn’t working?
I’ve got a similar issue. Camera has CamPlus Lite but Alexa routines and announcements aren’t working. Disabled and re-enabled Wyze skill but still not working. I’m in the US.
I don’t have any experience with Cam Plus Lite, and my experience with the Wyze⇄Alexa integration has yielded mixed results: I don’t currently have it connected, but my Video Doorbell v2 would sometimes produce announcements from my Echo speakers and sometimes not.
I wonder if there’s something different with the way Wyze passes a Cam Plus Lite person detection to Alexa compared with what they send when the camera is on a Cam Unlimited subscription. I really don’t know.
The visuals are helpful!
It looks to me like you have the right things set up. I’m not sure why it isn’t working, but I imagine it’s something Wyze and Amazon need to iron out somewhere in the server communication.
Yeah, I get what you’re saying about the physical experience being the same. What I don’t know is if there are any differences in the way Wyze handles the detection/analysis and passing pieces. In other words, if a Cam v3 on a Cam Plus Lite subscription and a Cam v4 on a Cam Unlimited subscription are side by side and “see” the same person in frame, does Alexa receive the same signal for both in order to trigger Routines?
I’m just trying to understand why it was so easy for me to set up a working Alexa Routine triggered by person detection on a Cam v4 with Cam Unlimited but then @carverofchoice described a failure in the other topic I linked above and you’re also not seeing it work now. Maybe at least some of it is related to the introduction of Alexa+ and Amazon has mucked something up in the process. That seems plausible, too.
Yeah, that part makes sense to me, too, because I don’t recall having that option available in Alexa for cameras before I had them on a subscription. My overall familiarity with Alexa could use a lot of work, though, because I still tend to prefer Google Home and use that more.
Pretty sure it’s a Wyze/Alexa problem. I’m sure Wyze support would be useless for something like this since it is complicated. Not sure where to get help at Amazon.
I’m not sure, either. The “HELP & FEEDBACK” link at the bottom of my profile in the app gives pretty limited options, so I’d probably go to Amazon’s Web site. If you can get through to a person, though, then I imagine you’re going go get non-answers and finger pointing (i.e., “That’s Wyze’s problem.”), but I don’t really know. Even though I use Google Home more than I use Amazon Alexa, Google Home’s support has not been especially helpful when I’ve needed it. At least with Wyze I can submit logs for the engineers and sometimes get a good Support human to work with, but that kind of goes out the window when there’s a hand-off to a third-party ecosystem, I think.
Did some internet sleuthing this morning and came to the same conclusion. Troubleshooting information went through several steps already taken and ultimately said if none of them work, contact Wyze.
Wyze support was as helpful as I expected…submit a log for engineering. Which means, thanks for playing, Too bad for you. I really dislike being blown off that way. In 99/100 cases you never hear back and nothing gets fixed.
I’d also like someone from Wyze to explain how the app log would contain any information regarding the interaction between the Wyze skill and Alexa. Makes no sense to me since that seems “server side.”
I agree, which is why I think it’s a Wyze⇄Alexa problem. I often get the impression from Support that they don’t fully read (or maybe read but don’t fully comprehend) the user’s problem, and that frustrates me as a problem solver.
I am a Canadian, and have now read the issue is due to my Alexa being a Canadian resident. I have since changed to a US based email and address and am now using Alexa thru the USA. Readded wyze skill, and I can tell things are different as v3 and v4 cameras are now selectable (no longer messages that this camera is unsupported). In addition to having more selectable cameras, I now have more options within (person detected, etc)…setup new routines in Alexa. I can manually run the new routines and they work….except they wont work automatically…under Activity Tab in Alexa routines, nothing will show! Frustrated!
I wondered if Canada or another country would be part of the issue, so thanks for clarifying that and doing some testing. I wonder how your Routines are set. Like I said (and linked) above, I did a quick test with a Cam v4 and got that to work when I tried it several days ago, but it’s not something I intended to use, so I just disabled it afterward and haven’t checked again since.
I have no issues here and person announcement is working as expected. I have “Person Detection Notification” enabled on each individual Cam V3. I just noticed this won’t show on the activity tab since I guess it’s not part of the “routine”
In order to mimic @WildBill 's setup, I have setup a routine to announce person detected so it will show up on the activity tab. It worked as expected too. Alexa just announced Person detected twice because I have “Person Detection Notification” enabled as mentioned above.
