Different Alert Sound for Wyze Notifications

I’ll definitely look this over. Thanks for the info!

Add sound choice notification option

Since the wyze app notification sound is the same as the system sound, it would be beneficial to have and option, in the app, to change the app’s notification sound. That way, the user will know when a high priority notification has been received (i.e., those from the wyze app) as opposed to those from more mundane apps (like “we just blocked a scam call sent to your number”). BTW, while some phone types (Apple?) and even SOME phones from the same manufacturer (ie, Samsung Galaxy S10) may have a option in their phone settings to change that, not all phones from the same manufacturer implement that option (e.g., Samsung Galaxy A71) . Having this option in the app itself will make it accessible to all app users accross all phone brands and phone manufacturer and all model numbers regardless of manufacturer, model number, revision number or build number.

Hi - this thread was from 2018. I would hope there is some movement on this since then as this is a really needed and important update…?

This is to add an additional sound (or several to choose from) for the SIREN notification. I’ve got a new Wishlist item newly created to add Siren Notification and it will need its own notification tone (or several to choose from).

could we have a clarification from Wyze: is this in development ? (this request has been here since 2018) or is it being misread , i.e. what wyze actually developed was a way to change the default ding.
What people here want is different sounds for different sensors/cameras . If it is not in development then Wyze please state the actual status. thanks

some more background from 2018 :
2018 post

I will try to look into this but my understanding is what is ‘in-development’ is what the first post talks about, making the Wyze notifications different from all the other app notifications on the phone. I do not believe this is to make each camera have it’s own unique sound, however this went into development before I was an employee so I will look into it and make sure I am not mistaken.

You are saying a notification sound for the Wyze App different from all other App Notification sounds. That is already a function that Android provides. What is needed is a separate notification sound setup within the Wyze App so that different events can produce different notification sounds. I have a number of Wyze products. Doorbells, Cameras, Smart Lock, and outlets. The problem is that I have several Wyze doorbell/cameras. There are multiple events that a single doorbell can produce. With a subscription, The events could be Person detected, animal detected, package detected, motion detected, doorbell button pushed. Each device and each event on that device should be set to a unique notification sound from my ringtone folder, or set to No Notification Sound. This is ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED because I have a front door doorbell/camera and a back door doorbell/camera on my beach house in South Carolina AND I will have a Wyze doorbell/camera on the front door and the back door of my residence in North Carolina. That is 4 doorbells. Just like every dedicated doorbell system for the last 70 years that you can install in a house (no camera) has at chime for the front door bell button being pushed (Ding- Dong) and a different chime for the back door bell button being pushed (Ding). That way you know which door to go to. As it is now, Wyze produces the same notification sound for any notification from any Wyze device. I don’t know if it is a doorbell button push, a person detected by the doorbell camera, or a person detected on a V2 Wyze camera under the beach house. Futhermore, the doorbell camera only detects motion in the firmware of the camera. It then sends the picture of the detection to your servers for server side software to analyze for a person, animal, package detection. If it detects a person, it sends this detection back to the doorbell. At my beach house, when I walk out the door, the camera detects a person, BUT it is 30 seconds after I was in front of the camera. I have gotten in my car add leaving before I ever get the notification sound. Now if someone pushes the doorbell button at the beach, I can get a faster notification, but when I’m in my home in NC it gets to me too last for me to connect into the doorbell at the beach and talk to the person at that pushed the doorbell. They have already given up and left the porch. The is now when I only have 1 doorbell installed. Once I have 4 doorbells installed (2 in SC and 2 in NC), I should be notified with a unique doorbell ringtone depending on which doorbell was pushed. The Android phone APP has the capability for the user to assign unique ringtones to every individual in their contact list. So android APP programming obviously has the functionality for the Wyze App to be able to reference different sound for each event that happens on each device in my Wyze Device network, Otherwise, notifications are useless and that makes having more than ONE Wyze device an unusable system.

I am getting ready to rip out all the WYZE devices I have and change over to Ring or Nest or someone else that understands how a system of devices needs to work to be useful for the customer.

Also, OTA software updates are horrible. None of my cameras at the beach house now work because something didn’t go right with an update. The solution from Wyze is to power cycle the device like the network interface unit for the V2 Cameras, power cycle the V2 camera via the switch on the camera. I can’t do that because I am in NC and my arms are not long enough to reach over 300 miles to flip a switch on a camera. My Wyze security system cameras for my beach house are dead because of a fault in a firmware update. That is unacceptable.

I was originally very excited about the Wyze products until I have seen that to put them together as a system is not doable. There is a big difference between developing and test a product on the workbench and having those devices out in the real world with issues that the developers are not faced with.

I am now very disappointed with WYZE even if I could buy the devices for one dollar each. I’m willing to pay more for devices that are bulletproof and I can count on for the security of my very expensive beach house.

Wyze should stick to making toys or other things that are not security related. Nobody at WYZE is wise enough to understand real-world issues and understand why certain functionality is a must with security systems.

If you scroll this thread, you will find that there are many third party Android apps that will do exactly what you want. I personally use Buzzkill and it gives me a different (totally custom) notification for each of my Wyze cameras. I don’t use their doorbells so I can’t speak to those, but I would be surprised if it was any different.

I’m not trying to dissuade you, though. By all means switch to Ring or Nest. Speaking for myself, I’m quite happy with Wyze.

I just discovered that I could set this thread to muted, which means I will no longer receive emails whenever anyone posts/replies to it. Since I started using BuzzKill to manage all of my Android phone’s notifications (not just Wyze), I no longer care if Wyze comes out with custom notifications.

I’m exactly in the same place. I see the value of this feature and advocated strongly for it, but when I discovered (through tharn’s post) that the functionality was readily available through a third party app, I stopped caring at all if Wyze introduced it natively. Even if Wyze did introduce this, I’m not sure I would use it as I am totally happy with Buzzkill managing my notifications across several apps. I can almost guarantee that, if Wyze introduced this natively, it would be an afterthought and would not be as robust or feature-rich an implementation as you can get from the various third party apps that provide this functionality as a core mission.

MillBilltheWise,

You said it all and I am right there with you about the major disappointment I am finding in Wyze, and, I was a big fan at first. I have only one property but, I live on acreage and have two outdoor cameras facing my gate. I want to know who is turning off the road and at my gate as soon as possible since it’s so rural and theoretically, unless it’s an invited person, there should be no one at my gate. We are having a lot of break-ins so this is not just to know who is at my gate, but, absolute security. I have been more an more frustrated at how slow notifying me happens. I have tested approaching and getting out of my vehicle and found that when I drive up to the gate, nothing happens for at least 30-60 seconds. I’ll sit there to wait and see how long it takes. I’ve had numerous notifications where a person is detected and get the video that shows them walking away (usually UPS who parks on the road and walks up to the gate) and know from my own experience that anyone can walk right up, hop my gate and be on my property and the camera wouldn’t even catch it. I’ve tested this theory so many times and that’s bad. I bought a sensor that when the beam is broken it sends a signal inside my house. I have that where anyone or anything that crosses that beam triggers it and I’ll immediately look at the camera. It’s often wildlife or a roaming dog, but it’s caught delivery people yet Wyze doesn’t. I’m also finding the outdoor cameras don’t last long. I have now bought 5 and only 2 continue to work, one now not giving me any notifications and freezing on a prior day. I’m finding I’m having to delete and then reinstall them to get them to work. So, I’m with you and need to find a much better, more reliable and better camera system for outdoor use where I have to depend on a battery operated camera. Fortunately I’m in range of my WiFi. I just don’t know which brand is REALLY good and affordable. I’ll use the Wyze cameras for the lesser requirements I have but need one dependable one for the gate to my property.

Also, Wyze should have the ability to give us notification sound choices to attach to each camera. I have multiple cameras but everytime I hear the alert sound I have to look at my phone to see which camera is giving the alert. In my case I only need one different alert and that is my gate camera. I saw where the Buzzkill app does notifications for everything but, it’s for Android phones. I only have an iPhone and iPad.

I’m in the same boat as you with the OUTDOOR version, Your so right with the issues. I too have had to uninstall, reinstall numerous times!!!
I’ve had 2 ring cameras with solar for twice as long as all of the wyze cams I have. They cost more but for having them a 6 yrs now, yes 6 years with barely any problems, And they are outside and inside of an Owl box I have. I probably should have kept with that brand and paid the price. The only issues is lack of continuous play back, the cost for cloud storage.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Individual Camera, Sense, Doorbell, AI detection type, etc. Alert Notification Sound and/or Color

iOS Custom notification sound for doorbell

Currently when the door bell is rang, the default iOS notification sound is played over the iPhone, With this sound it is not possible to differentiate between other notifications that may have received from another app.
The suggestion is to use the same sound that is played though the chime as the notification sound. Even better allow the user to customize the notification sound.

PLEASE SEARCH #wishlist and #roadmap and read the How to Use the Wishlist BEFORE POSTING. If your submission is approved, don’t forget to VOTE for it.

blatent advert, are you a buzzkill sales rep? its probably in your interest that wyze doesnt add this feature. if wyze provides equivilent functionality built in, anyone with a bit of experience would use the built in feature over adding extra layers of internet dependent functionality, thats just more stuff to go wrong

Many have found a solution in BuzzKill. I personally use MacroDroid and will recommend it to anyone.

Advert? No. Recommendation based on experience for a “now” solution? Yes.

Solve it in the app, solve it with a 3rd party app, doesn’t really matter so long as the results are there. And, the fact that these 3rd party apps can do insanely more than just help your Wyze experience is a great bonus.

As for stability, my MacroDroid routines are exponentially more stable than anything in my Wyze app and they are not internet dependant. They run locally on my phone.

  1. I do not work for Buzzkill, nor do I have anything to do with them at all aside from using their app. Nor do I know anyone who does work for them.

  2. As far as “anyone with a bit of experience” goes, I suppose my 30 years as a software developer and founder of one of the largest data centers in Canada might count, but I’m sure you have much more.

  3. I thought it was obvious that an app dedicated to a specific function would have more features and capability than a feature added on to the Wyze app. Apparently that was incorrect.

  4. The word is “blatant”. If you’re going to wrongly accuse me of being a paid shill, at least spell it correctly.

  5. You are very irritating and presumptuous, the latter contributing significantly to the former. I will not spend more time on you.

Changing the Wyze provided motion notification alert chime of the outdoor cam

When Motion is detected on my outdoor cam, I receiver a banner notification and a sad almost inaudible beep as an alert. I called tech support to see if I could change the chime to something more audible especially at night. Tech support said that the unfortunately the tone was preset by Wyze and could not be changed at this time and to request it on the wishlist. So, my wish is for the Wyze team to create a better audible tone for the outdoor cam when motion is detected like other security systems.
