I setup a v4 camera a few weeks ago and had alerts for vehicle motion disabled (notify unchecked), since we have a lot of traffic and I don’t want to exclude the road and our mailbox. I upgraded to Cam Plus the other day and had to go back in and reset up my alerts, including unchecking notify for vehicle motion alerts. However, now I’m getting these “Complete Motion Detected” every time a car drives down the road. I don’t see an “other” option under Smart Motion. How do I turn off this new notification?
Sure would be nice to post more than one picture per posting, considering I have a post on here from back in 2020.
Initially I thought this was going to be like @Seapup’s explanation in a related topic, but your Event Recording screen shows Smart Detection Events (not All Events) selected, and your Customize Recordings screen doesn’t show Other Motion, so I’m puzzled by this one, too.
I looked around first before I posted. I wasn’t sure if there was something else I’m missing.
I believe you. I just haven’t experienced this one (not a subscriber) and don’t have a good answer for that question. I hope someone who knows will see this and chime in.
Your profile shows that you’re a “New User (TL0)”, which is more a function of Forum participation than account chronological age, and thus you’re limited to 1 image per post with the Discourse platform’s defaults. You can increase your “Trust Level” organically with more active participation (as noted in that link), and in some cases I’ve seen a Moderator bump a user’s Trust Level in order to allow a user access to features like personal messages and video uploads.
I’ve seen this before.
Go back to the event recording settings. Switch from Smart Detections back to All events (this will be temporary).
Now click on Customize Detections
Uncheck the “Notify” checkmark on “Other Motion”
Now go back and set the Event recording back to “Smart Detection Events”
That should solve your problem.
My understanding is that “Smart Detection Events” only tells it to DELETE the videos from the cloud, but for some reason it doesn’t automatically uncheck the “notify of other motion” option like we all think it should do automatically.
Let me know if that fixes it.
You can’t have it both ways. If you leave the Vehicle box checked and the notify box unchecked it will still record the vehicle as motion.
Well, that seemed to do it. Not sure why they would hide “other” under All Events and not show it under “Smart Detection Events”.
I want the recording but not the notification. And I wasn’t getting the “Vehicle” notifications, just the “Complete Motion Detected” notifications.
@carverofchoice was spot on. Brilliant!
Apparently so!
This indicates to me that…
…makes the Other Motion option disappear? Is that why the temporary switch back to All Events is necessary, in order to enable that option again so that it can be deselected?
I can only see it, when “All Events” is selected, then I can change it. After going back to “Smart Detection Events”, the “Other Motion” option disappears.
That is exactly correct. It hides the motion option because the whole point of Smart detection is to act as if other motion events don’t exist, so there is no point in showing the option, in theory. The problem is that they didn’t take into account that switching to Smart detections will leave the Notification enabled, but no ability to view the event. They didn’t program it right. I reported this in the past, but it seems to have been ignored, so I just explain it to people when it inevitably comes up like this. Good thing I scan nearly every thread, eh?
Yeah, this seems like a problematic oversight, because even with Smart Detection Events enabled, the cameras are still capable of detecting motion that doesn’t fall into an AI-labeled category, and it’s also important to acknowledge that AI is frequently wrong. Hiding the ability to disable the Other Motion tags and notifications from the user feels like a bad decision that should be reconsidered.
Anyway, I appreciate the explanation. Thanks!
I think it would be fine IF they made it automatically disable the notifications too. Since it doesn’t, then it’s a problem.
I didn’t know you are Canuck, eh?
Thank you @carverofchoice. Sometimes these 73 year old eyes lead me a stray and I have put this on my “when I get around to it”. Works as explained. Thank you
