App not available on Motorola Moto G

My wife just got a Motorolla Moto G, Android 12 and Google Play Store says Wyze app not available for this device. Can anyone answer why? Her older phone, LG G7 ran the app fine. The requirement is Android 9.0 or higher.

While that might be true that it is not available for that device, can you visit the PlayStore in Windows and try sending it to your device?

Wonder if you can load it with APK MIrror.

I haven’t tried sending it to my device. I downloaded the APK from uptodown.com and it installed without any issues. Thanks for the tip, I’ll keep that in mind if I have any other issues.

That’s an interesting thought, but I’m not convinced that it would work. Google Play Store hasn’t offered the v3.0 update to my tablet running Android 13 Go, and when I visit the Wyze app’s page in Google Play Store in a browser on a PC, and select Install on more devices, I can see my tablet in the Choose a device list, but it’s not selectable and has this message: “This item is not compatible with your device.”

This device is already running the v2.5x app with no problems—and likely will indefinitely—and I have no problems with that. I don’t have a need to grab a newer version from APKMirror or a similar site as long as the v2.5x still does what I need it to do.

I’m not a developer, so I don’t know if the responsibility lies with an app developer or with Google to determine and flag device compatibility with a particular app, but this topic reminds me of another:

Given that last sentence, it might be possible at some point in the future that @raffy.kopec’s wife could get the current Wyze app directly from Google Play Store, but I don’t know if that determination would come from Google or Wyze. It probably wouldn’t hurt to open a ticket with Wyze Support and give them the specific device model and Android version just so it’s on their radar in case it’s something that needs to be passed up the chain to the developers to enable within Google Play Store.

Whoever is affected needs to open a Support ticket. I can’t do it for them. I see no reason why raffy.kopec’s Moto G running Android 12 is excluded other than oversight.

I agree. Seems to be a popular enough phone running a full Android version.

Nope cannot be loaded In apk already tried Google Play keeps saying it’s not compatible with my phone mine is also a Motorola Android 12. So what are we supposed to do with our cameras now we just throw them away

Is saying the same thing on my Motorola phone Android 12 I have never had Google to say it’s not compatible is there another app that’s compatible with these cameras cuz right now the cameras are useless that’s really some real good customer service if you ask me somebody does not care about the customers

That is horrible. You have a recognizable, respectful phone and OS. I am surprised no resolution has come forward.

I saw another case happen like this yesterday. Definitely a major issue.

@WyzeJasonJ should add it to his Fix-IT Friday list. Can you provide Jason with your ticket number? This could snow ball quickly.

Maybe @WyzeMatt could offer a solution.

Try downloading Wyze App from

That’s what I had to do on my wife’s phone, Motorolla Moto G Pure running Android 12. It installed without any issues. Just download the APK file and then install from your download folder.

I agree with @ssummerlin that this is something Wyze needs to address, and I wonder if any @Mavens could put a bug in someone’s ear, because it doesn’t make sense to me that you wouldn’t be able to install this if you’re running a recent version of full Android (in contrast with “Android Go”) on your phone. I really don’t know why such a device would be excluded—the devices mentioned in this topic and those mentioned in the topics linked to the initial post.

In the meantime, you may have to try something like what @raffy.kopec suggested, though I’d be more inclined to grab a v2.5x download from APKMirror. Forum Maven @carverofchoice posted a walk-through of that recently that might be useful if you’re unfamiliar with the process:

So this is a rather peculiar situation, but if I understand it correctly the play store decides not necessarily the developer but the play store itself decides what apps based on their requirements are shown to what phones which is why the play store is saying it’s not available for that particular phone. The fact that it can be side loaded shows that it will work. Seeing how many models and OS and things there are in the world I don’t know if Wyze Is the one to say yes it works with all of these or it just requires this this and this and then the play store based on your account decides if that particular phone meets the requirements. In my head having met people at the company I don’t know of anyone that goes through every make and model of phone available to test to make sure they work. I’m thinking this is more an issue with the play store. I could very well be wrong but seeing how downhill Google has gone over the last few years I’m going to lay more blame at their feet than anyone else. I’m trying to think of the correct employee to tag here to see if we can get some insight into this and I’m drawing blanks so I’m going to tag a friend who’s better at recognizing and memorizing the employees we talk to  @carverofchoice what do you think? anyone come to mind? I have one, but I know how busy he gets

True. Maybe they should use an exclusion list instead of an inclusion list. But that’s another question for another time.

It would be nice to learn who the final arbitrator is.

Motorola is not some new and upcoming brand. Interesting story to follow. Hopefully Samsung will not be excluded.

Not being a developer, I don’t know how this process works, so I don’t know where the roadblock is. Thanks for takin’ the time to chime in! I hope at some point we can get some answers for some of these frustrated fellow users.

The only thing about that is it is the APK is not secured and there’s no way to tell if it’s a fake or what that’s how people can see your cameras it, it happened to my friend last year this is an issue that wyze needs to fix I have cameras and I cannot even use them now if somebody’s still selling off my property who do I hold responsible since I use my security cameras to watch my property

Here’s a screenshot but it don’t even show any wyze apps except the one at the very top that says that it’s not compatible with your phone

That is more than sad. Somewhere someone forgot to check a box on the form or something else just as silly happened.

This needs immediate resolution.

Why would Wyze want to cut-down their user database?
