App no longer compatible with your device

I can confirm that a prior version is available today for older, 32 bit Android devices on the Google playstore.

I have a pretty old Tab E that I was bummed to see was not able to update to the version 3 app, but after reading this post today I went ahead and tried to install again, and was able to install 2.50.9.512 (I had uninstalled Wyze on the tablet).

In my case, I really do need a DEVICE anyway, but good to know for myself and others our more ancient tech got some love. Thanks Wyze team!

Good to know. That is the current version I have on my Tab A. The playstore shows this as the latest for my old device.

I am happy at least we have something that works on our old systems.

Yes, as long as your phone does not support the 3.x app, installing any version of the 2.x APK then going into play store and doing an update will update to the latest 2.5 version. My old android 8 spare phone, I didn’t feel like installing the apkmirror installer (the latest 2.5 is only available in that format currently), so just grabbed a raw apk a few versions old and then used play store to update it.

Obviously if your device supports 3.x then it will update to that, so if you want to stay 2.5 in that case you need to use the apkmirror installer then disable updates of the wyze app in play store. Should be able to uninstall their installer after (I haven’t used their installer in a few years but that was always my process, remove it right after). Not sure if they’ve changed that, they were moving toward their installer essentially being a “store” of sorts, so it may rely on that to get updates. However, since there won’t be any updates, it shouldn’t be needed.

Sounds like apk is not required if I read @justmeplusfive 's post correctly. Just remove and install from the Playstore.

If that’s the case, maybe Wyze re-added 2.5 to the Play Store. It must have been recent though, when I tried a week or two ago, even searching for Wyze 2.5 brought up the 3.x app and said “not compatible with your device”. But once the apk was installed, it then shows up and updates fine (I’ve seen that with other apps too, the developer seems to be able to mark it as “ok to update, but don’t allow new installs”).

When I search from either device now it only brings up the respective version, but that doesn’t mean they both aren’t out there, I’d probably have to uninstall the one on my spare phone to see how it comes up after that. And I’m lazy

I wouldn’t worry about it.:grinning:

Most users are NOT tech people and this level of know how is ridiculous. I have 2 older Android 9 phones so now my question is what affordable device phone or tablet is out there with x64 bit device and x64 OS? I’ll buy a cheap devices just for my cameras, but clueless what devices have both. I would really prefer not to waste money on new devices that don’t work. I just bought 2 new v3 cameras and had no idea Wyze had phased me out of my app updates. This almost feels as WYZE is trying to attract $1000 phone buyers and cut everyone else loose.

I’m sorry you don’t understand the post. It was not directed at you, it is a direct reply to @Crease and Wyze in general. We’re all just Wyze users here helping each other out on this user-to-user forum. I can’t recommend a 64-bit phone/tablet for you as “cheap” is subjective and “clueless” is relative. I prefer Samsung products and 64-bit low-end devices to me are Galaxy A35 5G and Galaxy Tab A9+ from Costco. Those are not my daily drivers however. You can always keep your Android 9 devices and sideload a 2.50.x Wyze app version. I’m also running some Android 9 devices, but as time goes by, new minimum system requirements will render those obsolete/incompatible also, not just for the Wyze app, but most of our Android apps. It’s the nature of technology. All technology.

I didn’t take it directed at me but the skill level needed of the android x64 + OS x64, Meaning only the more costly devices having x64 bit OS required IS directed at Wyze’s Users by WYZE. I have the latest 2.5 app but I need to plan forward past this android 9 device and the hefty requirement and shutout of the official 32 bit app is ridiculous in my opinion. Maybe Wyze can put out a device list it confirms working with so we can get some idea what devices work beyond $1000 phones.

I did find an aida64 app but saw diddly on there about what architecture the OS is.
I research extensively to buy a PC, But buying a specific android/OS device to fit an app is madness.

Appx 95% of 2024-model mainstream Android phones and tablets sold in the US are running 64-bit Android 14. If whatever you choose comes preloaded with Android 14 or 15, it’s guaranteed running in 64-bit mode as there is no 32-bit version of Android 14/15 nor will there ever be. For the other 5% and for most of the non-mainstream brands, no one can tell you exactly which of the current 64-bit models are forced to 32-bit mode, especially phones because it depends not only on phone carrier, but service-level within carrier. With non-mainstream models, it’s a crap shoot. Basically the less you pay, the more likely you’ll receive a 32-bit device as companies looking to make a quick profit are dumping their junk on the unsuspecting public. That is especially true for the low-end generic brands sold on Amazon and by Walmart. Within the next 1-2 years, there will be no 32-bit app support and the Google Play Store will no longer host 32-bit apps. While researching, concentrate on preloaded Android version and look for Android 14 at minimum. That’s “real” Android 14, not “based-on Android 14” or Android-Go or FireOS flavors or whatever.

If you’ve installed the app and run it, maybe the quickest/easiest way to see the OS architecture is by tapping Android (on the main screen between Battery and Devices). Look for the Kernel Architecture line on the AIDA64 / Android screen. You can also look for the Instruction Set line on the AIDA64 / CPU screen. This is what I see for two different devices (I marked items that provide the clues):

AIDA64 Screen

Parameter
Motorola moto g7
Android 10
Lenovo Tab M8 (4th Gen)
Android 13 (Go edition)
CPU Instruction Set 64-bit ARMv8-A 64-bit ARMv8-A (32-bit Mode)
Android Kernel Architecture aarch64 armv7l
runs v3x
Wyze app
(64-bit OS)
stuck on v2.5x
Wyze app
(32-bit OS)

For whatever it’s worth, I intend to use the v2.5x Wyze app indefinitely on my low-end tablet running Android Go (32-bit).

Yeah, this is kind of getting into the weeds, and I personally think it’s ridiculous to be required to use a third-party app just to be able to determine whether or not a particular Android variant is 32-bit or 64-bit. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect to easily see that piece of information within Android’s settings. Having said all that, though, I appreciate @Seapup’s contributions because I think they provide valuable background and additional detail for those of us who are “tech people” (or, in my case, at least a wannabe).

Samsung A53 was my secondary phone and was more affordable. I have the s24 vanilla and my older s21 vanilla. Never had a pixel but the pixels seem affordable.

I believe the s24fe recently came out. May be able to get a good price. Phones cost more than a big-screen TV. Crazy.

I totally agree. That was a bad decision that alienated a lot of customers.

If you’re looking for a cheap tablet that can install the Wyze app, there’s a refurbished Fire HD 10-inch model that Woot is selling. Including a $10 coupon, it’s $30.

Normally a Fire tablet wouldn’t run the stock Wyze app, but if you use Fire Toolbox, you can make it to act like a normal Android tablet. With Google Play, too,

The only downside is that this is only 32gb so can’t install too many apps.

I already have one (that I bought new) and I’m going to use it as an always-on display for the Wyze app.

This is an ad-supported model, but Fire Toolbox removes the ads as well.

Seapup,
So if my phone (or tablet) is running Android 15, I should be able to run the 3.2.6 version? I have the Wyze app parked at 2.50.9(512) on both our phones now, but I know at some point a security vulnerability will force us to upgrade to the 3.x version. I know our Pixel 8 will run it, but the Pixel 6a (both phones have Android 15) may not? Thanks very much!

Yes. You can run 2.50.x until it is no longer supported or 3.x anytime.

Thanks, that is good news!
I don’t want to buy another Pixel phone for the foreseeable future because my 6a is good for security updates until July of 2027.

I was able to install the 3.2.6.592 XAPK file from APKPure onto an old Pixel C tablet with LineageOS22 (Android 15), and it installed and launched, but I did not
login. So there may be hope that it could run on that tablet.

Now you know, regedit runs on Android! Not
