Did a factory reset, App version 3 isn't compatible. Help!

I had to factory reset my phone, which is running Android version 13. After the reset, I tried to reinstall the Wyze app, but it says I can’t install it—probably because my phone isn’t the latest model. What can I do?

What version of the app were you running before, and what can you share about your phone model? Without more information, I’d guess that you were probably running the last 2.50x version of the app before the reset and that your phone’s running a 32-bit version of Android, which is incompatible with the current Wyze production app. Since v3x, the Wyze app for Android has required a 64-bit OS.

Your best bet at this point for running the Wyze app on that phone might be to source a pre-v3x app from an unofficial site like APKMirror or APKPure, but more information about what you’re currently using (and possibly which Wyze app you were using before) might help us to figure out if the issue is something else.

Welcome to the Forum, @stone_oakleaf!

i’m currently using a galaxy A3 5g running android version 13. No idea if it’s a 32 or 64 bit. Have no idea how to look that up on my device.

Here is a link to grab an older Wyze APK file.

What I’m seeing online when I look up the Samsung Galaxy A3 is a ~10-year-old phone that isn’t 5G capable, so I wonder if you mean the Galaxy A33 5G.

Unfortunately, most Android vendors don’t make this obvious or easy. If you’re not seeing clues in the phone’s settings (e.g., under System or About phone, depending on what your particular Android version shows), then you might have to resort to using a third-party app to help you figure that out. I’ve used AIDA64 in the past to do that.

My guess at this point is that you’ve got a device running 32-bit Android since it’s a Galaxy A series phone and that tends to be Samsung’s low-to-mid range for devices. Although the hardware itself may be 64-bit capable, my understanding is that the lower amounts of RAM manufacturers tend to build into these devices also leads them to loading 32-bit Android versions on them so that performance doesn’t suffer too much, and the amount of RAM on the device might also be a clue about the OS. Given that, you’re probably going to have to source an older Wyze app or a newer phone (if you want to run the current Wyze app).

It worked well. I visited the website, downloaded the previous version, and installed it. The process was pretty straightforward. Thanks for your help

You’re welcome. There were a lot of complaints last summer when they made that big change with the v3x app, and occasionally that still pops up as an issue. I’ve suggested detailed corrections to their messaging about this, but they haven’t implemented any of those, and I’m skeptical that’ll ever happen.

I’m glad you found a solution!
