I recently purchased the Wyze Floodlight. After some recent updates, I have now noticed ALL my wyze cameras to have stopped recording events, and although they recognize their SD cards they wont let me format them, saying “Unsupported” (they all worked previously, with their respective SD cards).
Im pretty upset, not only does this invalid the usage of my Wyze cameras but SD cards arent cheap. They all worked previously just fine, and then it would seem some event triggered this (either adding the Floodlight to my network of cameras or a recent update).
I assume it’s the Floodlight with the Cam V3 attached on it. I’m guessing your last recording corrupted the microSD and the internal controller locked it up from further writes.
You can try power cycling the floodlight. If that doesn’t work, then remove the microSD from the floodlight and then put in your phone or sd card reader and format it.
Afterwards, power cycle your floodlight again and then input the microSD card while the floodlight is on. You should hear a bell sound as confirmation. Wait a couple minutes and go to your app to see if you can playback the footage (assuming your continuous record is already on).
This impacted all SD cards on my network, not just the Floodlight with Cam V3. I have numerous other Wyze products, including several wyze cam v3s and a wyze cam pan 1080p.
Theres no way every SD card in every device became unsupported overnight… something with a recent update has broken all my SD cards.
The SD cards are Sandisk Ultra 32GB. I do not have an adapter for my laptop, or anyway to interact with the cards besides in my Wyze units. They were formatted when installed and have worked fine, some for several years… until just recently all SD cards are now failing and “unsupported”.
I suspect some recent update or bug has triggered this.
You can try flashing previous firmware manually, but you mentioned you don’t have anyway to interact with the micro SD. If you are using Android and you think app is the main cause of the issue, you can downgrade the Wyze app via apkmirror.com.
I’ve had instances where a power surge / power outage which corrupted my micro SD recordings and I had to physically remove it to format it. It’s hard to know what caused the issue if you can’t inspect the micro SD card.
There’s also a possibility of your micro SD dying as there are limited write cycles, but it is highly unlikely they will all die at the same time.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking on this based on all the information you’ve shared which makes coincidence almost impossible, and my primary suspicion (though not my only suspicion) is that the issue is being caused by an app issue. I suspect that the SD cards are actually working and recording but that the app isn’t accessing or recognizing them correctly all of a sudden, and that it is only affecting some users on iOS.
Can you tell me which model device you are using to open the app? And what is your app version number?
I’ll keep an eye out for other similar reports, but so far you’re the first I’ve seen.
There are other people having a slightly different problem with some cameras (OG’s and Pan V3’s are having trouble stitching SD card video playback for some people), but I haven’t heard of that affecting V3’s and some of the other model cameras, and I don’t think any of them have the SD card saying it’s unsupported, and that issue is months old, but is finally be worked on. If your issue is related, it could be important to know that it spread to the V3’s.
I have two Wyze cam V3s, a Wyze Cam Pan, and a new Wyze cam V3 as part of the Floodlight unit.
I have an iphone 12 mini running ios 17.4.1.
My cameras get updated regularly and are currently on 4.36.11.8391 (the Pan is on 4.10.9.3006 - its up to date, this camera is just older)
The SD cards are new(er) Sandisk Ultra 32GB - all working and purchased from Amazon with the camera. Only recently did I notice all my SD cards are unable to be formatted and are showing as “unsupported microSD” now. My cameras, even ones outside, all exist under covered roofs and thus should have minimal water intrusion, etc. I have to believe something with the app or an updated fouled all 4 of my SD cards, which is so aggravating and expensive.
Most of my cameras, (16 of them), no longer will show playback based on clicking the playback icon in the view an event part of the app. I am assuming this is related to an SD card failure issue.
Sometimes, I can format the SD Card, (all SanDisk), but for the most part the SD cards appear to all be falling as well…
I am assuming this is some sort of software issue, as sometimes the card will not format, but if I restart the camera, I can then format the card… I have been waiting for a fix for this, and not reporting any of it until today.
With Wyze don’t assume anything. Logic is not used on a Wyze device. In the years I have used Wyze, I have not seen a µSD card fail completely. Once I reformatted within the cam and it has worked since.
My friend bought his first V3 and the unit would not play back. He returned the buggy cam for a new one and used the same µSD card. There is no visible logic. Some have problems while some do not. Maybe once we discover a final solution, then it may seen logical.
I have been considering jumping ship from Wyze, to some other product… I will give it a few more months before I change… If things continue as they have been, I will probably start moving to some other platform…
Same here as of May 11th 2024 BOTH V2 cameras went off line SIMULTANEOUSLY and the WYZE sd cards are messed up. Too coincidental . Either wyze is doing this on purpose or THEY HAVE BEEN HACKED BIGTIME ? Never buying another wyze camera … this is malarky
Came here to report the same issues with my cameras. It’s definitely an app issue, I’m using all v2’s. All three stopped recording, I reformatted the SDs, yet the app still says the SD cards are full with no data on them. One works after the reformat for about 15 minutes and then stops, the other does not and says it’s not supported and to reformat, which I have done half a dozen times now, and the third I had to replace because it just died (which I don’t think was related).
Coming here to say I am running into a very similar issue, although every camera does not register my SD cards. So that’s 5 cameras (OGs, V3, pan cam v3), where the SD card won’t register on the cameras, which happened at the same time a few months ago. Yes, I’ve even tried brand new cards.
