Add Gateway support to Lock Bolt

They can generate the code remotely but failed to control the locks.

I must admit, the debate in this forum is somewhat entertaining. So many requests for the NOT WiFi-Enabled Lock-Bolt to do what the YES WiFi-Enabled Lock, does (or should do… ).

Personally, the user comments regarding the WiFi-Lock is an absolute deal killer for me. WAY too many issues still. Having a buggy WiFi-Enabled lock is not a good idea in my opinion, as the WiFi just creates an additional vector for failure/hack to prevent things it is NOT supposed to do, if it is already struggling to do stuff it IS supposed to do.

Ironically (coincidentally?) the LACK of WiFi (and excellent history of user comments) is precisely why I would prefer to choose the Lock-Bolt. BLE Bluetooth is risky enough without adding a buggy WiFi vector on top of it - at least with bluetooth, anyone trying to defeat it needs to be within 10 feet of my front door. PLUS the slick integrated keypad (the fingerprint piece seems… risky to me) is a major improvement over the WiFi Lock (why have a WiFi lock AND an original keyed deadbolt in front of it which almost any amateur / hobbyist locksmith can pick in minutes or seconds like I can - only breaking a window or kicking the door in would be faster.)

I agree with those posting: Ditch the WiFi Lock (it is counter-intuitive to improving the security of your door anyway) and add remote capability for those who want it via a Bridge+Lock-Bolt. Win/Win.

Compelling the door chime as your optional hub/bridge? That’s a fail.
Adding buggy WiFi behind an existing keyed deadbolt? That’s a fail.
Having a bluetooth capable lock AND a bluetooth capable bridge… and not letting them speak to each other… That’s a double-fail.

Anyway - I like the Lock-Bolt and if I can figure out how to mount it in my unique situation, it looks like a good, secure-enough, non WiFi as preferred, option for me.

Good luck with your individual situations.

Remote locking of bolt lock from doorbell pro

That’s a might fine icon of a padlock that lets unlock your front door from anywhere in the world.

It would be super awesome if it turned into an open padlock when unlocked. Push it again and it would lock your door from anywhere in the universe!

Seriously just accidentally bumped the unlock button and left our door unlocked all night.

[Mod Note]: Please note that your feature request is currently undergoing beta testing. See post above:

You assume WiFi to be buggy and inconvenient, yet just about every house with internet in the country has WiFi, which is a testament to its usefulness. If the lock and the app share a timed token, like an RSA key, then the odds of someone picking the correct sniffed packet and unlocking are abysmal. They would also need to be on the network already to even have a chance.

We get that Wyze built this lock without the Gateway integration, but it is sleeker than its predecessor and has the components to be able to work with the Gateway, so this is an important request for many of us. Otherwise, the lock is far less useful.

At the end of the day locks are to keep honest people honest. If a thief wants into your home, office, boat, shed, etc. they are going to get in assuming they brought the right tools, which in a lot of cases is just a good kick to the door next to the jamb. lets face it most people do not have reinforced door jambs (i do) but a window will also work just fine. So really this is just about CONVENIENCE. if i can look at my wyze app and see that the door was left unlocked, it would be nice to be able to lock it remotely, conversely if your kids or a neighbor watering your plants forgot their key, it sure would be nice to be able to let them in, and relock when they leave. Lots of different scenarios and use and its all about convenience not really security.

I’m on the fence about buying a Wyze lock bolt so I figured here is the best place to ask questions about it since you’re already in discussion about it

If you pair the lock bolt with a video doorbell Pro, does the Wyze lock bolt provide status of the lock from anywhere to? like to alert you when it jams or is left unlocked?

Can the lock bolt tell if it’s left unlock or locked or jam in the first place?

Not yet. They can certainly add this functionality through the VDBPro Chime now, but so far the only thing that has been added is the ability to unlock the Lock-bolt remotely, and it will confirm that it “Unlocked successfully.” They’ve indicated more is being worked on (including locking remotely). But at this time, Unlocked remotely is the first added feature released to the public.

Lock bolt, missing in device list for “Create Rules”

The Lock bolt device is not listed in devices for short cuts, rules or location triggers.
These examples tie wall switch controls with lock bolt if it’s were listed in the devices. Why is it not listed?
Ie.

  1. Turn outside lights off & unlock lock bolt…
  2. Would bet nice to double tap turn outside lights on & unlock the lock bolt triple tap to reverse.

[Mod Note]: Rules (Shortcuts, Schedules, Triggers, Location Triggers) are stored to and executed from the cloud via the Internet. Wyze Lock Bolt is not an Internet-connected IOT device. Lock Bolt was purpose-built to satisfy users’ security concerns and requests for a non-IOT deadbolt lock with local-only (Bluetooth) smart features.

This wishlist topic was created by the forum community requesting gateway support to provide Lock Bolt Internet connectivity. This would be required in order for Lock Bolt to make use of rules.

This rules-related user request has been merged to this topic to ensure Lock Bolt-related rules are considered and included during the design, development and testing of a Lock Bolt gateway solution.

Wyze locks and smart app integration

Make the Bolt lock able to access wifi and Google home so it can be controlled by voice and schedules set up etc. This would then be a perfect product. Heck integrate a camera door bell into the same unit as an all in one product and I’ll buy 20.

I have a remote cabin that is serviced by local residents and would like to unlock the door to give them access.

Buy the Wyze Lock then (not the Bolt) if you have Internet at your cabin.:+1:

Wyze Lock then. Not the Wyze Bolt.:+1:

Has anyone bought an aftermarket Bluetooth/wifi gateway to control the Bolt and bypassed waiting for Wyze to integrate this? I see tons on amazon and people uae them with other Bluetooth deadbolt products. Mayne i missed a comment about this but i am a new customer who missed the information about the Bolt only being Bluetooth! I do have the unlock only linked to my doorbell pro but no way to lock back. Im hoping my 30 seconds of not being locked timer kicked in sonce im an hour from home and my house is potentially unlocked till i get back home! Couldnt tell you though because there is no verification if my hoise is locked or unlocked lol. I bought rhe bolt because it fit the cutouts in my door versus the other wifi enabled option wouldnt cover the existing holes.

I don’t think you can use a third party gateway solution for this very easily unless you know how to modify firmware yourself to change the authentication, which I wouldn’t recommend.

It autolocks for me fine when I remotely unlock it. It works the same as giving someone a guest code. It still autolocks afterward.

Wyze has said they’ll be adding other features for it too, including remote locking. I look forward to seeing what else they add beside that.

I bought both the lock bolt and camera doorbell thinking the 2 would work together to allow wifi capabilities to the lock bolt. I bought the lock bolt because I liked the keypad better than the smart lock with the separate keypad. It seems like it would be a simple update that would make this product more comparable to other locks on the market.

I wouldn’t commit to putting on doorbell on each house since that product only works about 30% of the time in our testing of several of them over a fairly long period; however, I do really like the basic function and feel of the lock bolt we purchased to test. If this had an inexpensive Wifi gateway, even as an add-on, I’d start with 15 units to phase out my Kwikset and Nest units that have a variety of problems at a higher pricepoint. With that, Wyze would be a strong competitor in the market for short-term rentals.

I agree with what you said about the feel of the lock bolt. The buttons have great tactile feedback, IMO. Not sure if that’s what you were referring to exactly, but it made me think of how good the buttons felt to me. I hope future versions of their locks maintain that feeling!

Same here! I want to recommend sooo many Wyze products to friends and family, but these ridiculous shortcomings make it hard.

I was telling my buddy how I got the Lock Bolt and he was stoked, wanted to get the same for his AirBnB but as we kept talking the less it makes sense for him. He wants to be able to remotely lock/unlock, create new codes for new guests that expire after a period of time, get notifications re: codes used & locked/unlocked status etc…

Bummer they don’t think these things through more robustly…

Yeah, that got me to. I then upgraded the video doorbell and all it can do is unlock. I should have read the description better, but given Wyze has been consistent with their eco system it never dawned on me it would not not work in their eco system. I do not want to have to mount a keypad somewhere else (that is just stupid) and so I wont be purchasing any Wyze alternative.

Thanks much to “theroncooper”. In response to Wyze’s e-mail blast, I was getting on to order our first 10 lock/doorbell sets to test out in lieu of some other products that I’d like to phase out.

Glad I looked here first. Since the doorbell presumably is serving as a bluetooth gateway I wonder why they chose to cripple the functionality to only include unlock, rather than full function like Kwikset Ultraloq, or Nest.

Oh well… Looks like we’ll use Ultraloq just to replace the bad ones and then wait and see if any vendor offers something useable at a reasonable pricepoint like I perceived this to be.
