2 doorbells one transformer setup

Has anyone successfully run two Wyze Video Doorbells on the same transformer? If so, what transformer size (voltage and VA rating) did you use to power both reliably? Looking for recommendations to ensure I choose the right one.

As you’ve probably figured, you can run as many as you want off a transformer rated high enough

You’ll need to double check the specs for the doorbells (not sure which one you have) but I believe they’ll run as high as 24 volt. Typically the biggest transformer you’ll find is 24V 40VA (which translates to between 32 and 36 watts in the average home). I would think that would be more than plenty for two, even factoring in the voltage drop of the wiring etc.

But you will also need to check your wiring, a lot of dual button single chime setups share a lot of wiring and may require jumpers and/or diodes to make them both work. May not be able to run your existing chime off it at all, but not sure if you’re trying to do that.

I haven’t, but Wyze actually shows this in a diagram in the Help Center article for the alternate wiring scheme. (I don’t know why they put such a diagram there and not in the standard installation instructions.) Per their Installation Guide, Wyze recommends 16-24 V and ≥10 VA. The product box says this:

Power Input: AC16V/AC24V,≥10VA

Given that information, I’d be inclined to try something like a relatively inexpensive tri-volt transformer that includes terminals for a 24V, 20VA load, because that seems like it should be sufficient, though I’d also want to know more about the existing setup before making that call.

In general, I think @dave27’s idea about 24V,40VA is reasonable. (I’ve also seen a lot of recommendations on the Forum for 30VA transformers even with single doorbell setups, but I’ve had good results with my existing 16V,10VA transformer and have measured ~18.5 V AC from that.) I’m not sure about the diode situation, because Wyze has a Help Center article specifically advising against those, but, again, what you need is going to depend on your existing setup and how much modification you’re anticipating. If you’re dealing with relatively straightforward wiring with a single transformer and typical three-terminal (FRONT, TRANS, REAR) mechanical chime, then just beefing up the transformer (depending on what you already have) and wiring in the doorbells and their respective Chime Controllers seems like it should be a fairly simple thing to try.

Also, I am not an electrician.

Here are links to a couple of related Forum topics, in case you haven’t already seen them. This first user reports upgrading the transformer and wiring in a second Video Doorbell v2 but then potentially releasing the magic smoke from the Chime Controllers. Without a better description and/or photographic evidence, I’m not really sure what happened in this situation, so I wouldn’t necessarily interpret it as a cautionary tale:

In this second topic, another user reports powering three chimes off a single doorbell and transformer by using a relay in the circuit:

You didn’t mention wanting to do something like that, so I don’t know how useful that information might be toward accomplishing your goal, but there it is nonetheless.
