Based on what Wyze support just told me, The chime controller is only capable of controlling 1 chime. I have a one-doorbell 2 chime setup. One chime downstairs and one chime upstairs. A great upgrade option would be a way to hook up both chimes so I don’t lose out on a chime. I will gladly purchase a second chime controller if that would allow it to work. If there is a way to wire it up so that the controller can control 2 chimes a wiring diagram explaining this would be fantastic. I’ve been waiting for an upgraded wired doorbell to come out and it is finally here but I hate that I lose a chime
I am curious about how your chimes are setup, are they both wired to the doorbell on one circuit, meaning a single transformer running both chimes and both chimes are wired in, not one being a wireless extaension.
Hi,
Yes it’s setup with one transformer and both chimes are wired together.
Here I attached the transformer which has 1 wire going to bell and 2 wires going to chimes and then the photo of the chime, they are both wired the same. White wire I assume goes to bell and red wire to transformer.
Hi David, WyzeJasonJ,
I too have 2 mechanical chimes and they are setup very similar to David’s diagrams including the 24V and 20VA output. At this time, I am still awaiting delivery of my Doorbell V2 order.
David - Were you able set up your doorbell? I do not plan to use the chime controller as others have had issues with that? Can you please share your experience?
Thanks
I just purchased a Doorbell V2 and I see that the Wyze Doorbell Chime Controller does not work with 2 chimes. I have two chimes. I have not seen any explaination as to what the Chime controller does. Can some one point me in the direction as to what the controller is designed to do? I do plain on wiring a 24VAC relay coil in place of my two chimes to meet the requirements of Wyze Doorbell Chime Controller, I will post my solution if anyone wants it. Yes, I’ll trade my specific solution (part numbers, drawing, and step by step instructions) for knowledge as to what the Wyze Doorbell Chime Controller is designed to do. LOL. Just ask, I’ll post it. Thanks for the help in advance.
GAR1234,
I was wondering how you made out with your installation. I am doing a similar one, with three chimes.
The pic of the modified doorbell diagram I made was actually approved by Wyze tech support. I asked how the Chime Controller worked and he couldn’t (or wouldn’t) answer. I asked how much current the V2 Doorbell or Chime Controller could handle (because I’m tripling the chime load) and he said it didn’t matter. Those answers didn’t give me much confidence.
I was thinking I’d use a RIBU1C relay to isolate the V2 and Chime Controller from the three chimes. I’m thinking this is a safer bet, and I have the relay. I’ll try to attach a pic of that. The site is saying I can only upload one photo.
You have any insights, if you’re installation is up and running?
@GAR1234, this is the answer I recall reading before:
Given that (and my very basic electrical knowledge), what you proposed makes sense to me.
I just saw your email. I have not installed my unit yet but I will get you a photo coming back.with the relay and the circuit I am going to use. The Wyze unit can only drive one chime so I plan on having a relay be the one chime and the relay contacts, using a seperate 24 VAC transformer, drive the other chimes. I’ll try and send you something tonight after work.My current transformer is in the attic and hard to get to. From what I am reading, most homes have an under sized transformer and that is why I am adding a second transfomer (seperate circuit). My house is 80 years old (1963)

Gar,
I installed all my doorbell related devices yesterday. V2 doorbell and chime controller, that RIB relay i put the photo of earlier in the chat, and three chimes. All powered off one 30VA transformer. I wired the coil of the relay as if it were the single chime in a standard set up. I wired all three chimes in parallel through the relays single normally open contact. Everything works perfectly on the first try. Just had to do a few firmware updates before it was operational, but that had nothing to do with my relay/additional chimes.
For what its worth, the 16 volt transformer is ~18.4 volts when no bell is ringing and ~14.2 volts when all three chimes activate. The drop in voltage has had no impact on system operation.
Good luck.
