We had previously installed the Doorbell Cam v2 (wired) to the front door and it worked great!
We realized our deck had a backdoor doorbell so we wanted to add another camera.
After we installed that they both worked fine for a few minutes and then they both died.
I assumed now that there were two, they weren’t getting enough power.
We then replaced the Doorbell Transformer to one that was 24V-20VA.
After doing that, one of the chime control dongles started making a rapid clicking noise and started smelling like burning plastic. So we cut the power and switched back to 16V-10VA. after turning the power back on it was still clicking.
So we’ve cut power to the doorbell and haven’t tried again. We’re planning on consulting an electrician about the transformer, but I assume the doorbell chime itself may be toast.
Has anyone experienced this before? Any tips? Can we get a replacement chime controller?
the fuse wire in the included chime controller protects your new doorbell from high voltage that may cause damage.
I think consulting an electrician in this case is a good idea. If you feel comfortable doing your own work and have the ability to test your circuits and measure voltages, then it’s possible that you could wire in your own relay, as other users apparently have:
I’m not sure from your initial post if you have two separate doorbell buttons and chime boxes or two doorbell buttons activating chimes in a single box, so I still think I might lean toward the electician.
I don’t think this is possible, but you could contact Wyze Customer Support and find out. If Wyze is going to refer to a “fuse wire” as part of the Chime Controller assembly, though, then it makes sense that this might be a consumable part that would need individual replacement at some point. It seems like it should be possible to buy one separately from Wyze.
If/when you get this resolved, I hope you’ll take the time to give us an update. I’m curious about how this is going to turn out for you.
