Yeah, that’s definitely a disappointment, as I noted more than once in the announcement topic:
Wyze should sell the Chime Controller separately.
Since I’ve read that some users have reported success using Video Doorbell v2 without installing the Chime Controller, I wonder if this would be possible (though I imagine not officially recommended/supported) with Duo Cam Doorbell, but I don’t know the answer to that.
I am also glad to see that the new WiFi chime will be able to be used with the V2, if it becomes available separately, some day, potentially.
Considering how they touted the ability to use your house chime so much on the V2, I am surprised that rather than putting one sentence on the product page mentioning that….
I’m not surprised and have frequently posted my disappointment with deficiencies in Wyze’s public messaging. I imagine with this new release they’re probably excited about the Wi-Fi Chime that’s included and want to promote that feature (I imagine that also factored into the decision not to include the Chime Controller with the new doorbell, because they probably expect most users to opt for the Wi-Fi Chime, particularly because of the flexibility it adds by being compatible with their other cameras), and I think it actually is pretty cool that they plan to make that available as a stand-alone purchase at some point, but I totally think the Chime Controller should be available as an accessory purchase, as well.
