WyzeCam as a remote control

WyzeCam has 4 powerful Infrared LEDs controlled over internet. You can modify app to add ability to generate remote control codes or just relay remote control signals picked-up by app from phone’s camera? Use case: I want to talk through camera to my elderly mom, but TV is blaring and she will not hear me. I would love to be able to mute TV so I can talk to her. Another use case: mom pressed wrong button on remote and TV is no longer working. Instead of explaining to her what buttons to press I could “fix” her TV remotely. It will allow to use existing cameras and will only require change in app. It may also increase marketability of your cameras because none of the other vendors (as far as I know) offering this functionality.

That would be a really cool feature, I never thought of that.

You should create this in the Wishlist category to allow others to vote for the idea.

This feature would be a game changer and totally a marketable feature

Imagine if Wyze’s AI could control the camera to do this. You could talk to the camera and tell it “Hey Wyze, change the TV channel to ___” or “Hey Wyze, turn on the Air conditioner” or sound system, fans, lights, projectors, heaters, or anything else that uses IR. The cameras could potentially become one of those smart IR BLASTERS and either control things with the app or the Wyze AI if they train their AI to recognize certain voice commands. How cool would that be? Definitely a marketable bonus over the competition.

Hey @WyzeMatt we have a new idea for you to pitch.

Best believe I’d have cameras pointed toward my TV if I could tell the camera to turn my TV on or off, or change the channel using it’s Nightvision IR light(s).

Does not make sense, will never work reliably, get roku or firestick, with alexa you can power on off tv with voice

Most consumer grade IR remotes use 940-980 nm LEDS. Most Wyze cams use 850 nm. I think the only 940 nm equipped Wyze cams are Cam v3 and Pan Cam v2. Wyze would also need to incorporate a processor to do the binary pulse frequency stuff and a separate IR receiver for learning. IOW, probably-not.

You wouldn’t have to watch TV anymore. You could skim through the recordings.

I haven’t watched TV in years. Roku works in its place. I put up an outdoor antenna, but rarely use it.

Fair point. All the more reason for them to go back to 940nm IR. I hate visible IR so much anyway.

I agree they don’t have the equipment needed to make it pulse fast enough. Still, it could make for an interesting indoor camera if the made one that could handle it (though an expense most people wouldn’t use). I think it would be better to just make a separate IR blaster though. Maybe even as an accessory.

It was a fun idea though.

YoLink IR blaster…

Nice, I can’t tell if it works with Home Assistant. Some things say yes, but some reviews I saw say no. Reasonable price. Says it needs a yoLink hub though :frowning:

Yes, all YoLink products need a hub, but not very expensive and one (Speaker Hub) will do the job, plus allow verbal announcements. I have a lot of YoLink stuff, and particularly like the outdoor motion sensors with the speaker hub. It announces which motion sensor was triggered. Also can use as a chime when a door opens.

With the IR blaster and the hub, OP would be able to control the tv remotely.

If you need HA integration I found this:

An accessory for existing cams that’s just like the v3 spotlight would be really cool. I would probably buy a few.
