Wyze Video Doorbell v2 - Released 10/24/2023

I will try to get clarification but I believe the ‘smart alerts’ mean person, package, vehicle etc and those alerts would require Cam Plus but the notification of someone ringing the door bell would work without. I will try to make sure that is accurate though.

No, it will work with the original Wyze Lock, but not the Wyze Lock Bolt.

I will also try to clarify this tomorrow as I am also confused by that.

Dang it. What will the Doorbell Pro work and the V2 won’t?

Doorbell Pro is good for:

  • Better Field of View (can see down lower to the porch to view packages left up close to the door)
  • Battery uses if someone doesn’t have wiring
  • Integrates with the Lockbolt
  • Has a portable chime

VDBv2 is great for almost everything else, especially:

  • 2K
  • SD Card recording
  • Works with wired Mechanical or wired digital chimes
  • And more

Might have missed it but I know the older doorbell cameras needed cam plus to get the recordings of events, they didnt have the option for cam plus lite either. I know this has an SD slot but will it be compatible with cam plus lite to get the 12 sec clips and then I could replay off the SdD card if I wanted/needed to see more?

I own a v1 version and don’t see the option for announcements on Google home or Amazon Alexa devices. Where is this option? If the v2 doorbell does not announce on Google Home devices the v2 product is useless for me. Can someone confirm that announcements work on Google home devices.

I see Cam Plus listed under “Security Plans” here. I didn’t know Cam Plus was considered a “Security Plan”.

So, that clears that concern up for me:

Got a notice for this new doorbell in my email yesterday and thought for a few seconds I might consider getting one of these to replace my Eufy wireless doorbell, which I love but has some flaws. HOWEVER, that excitement quickly dissipated when I saw that the “first ever built-in microSD card slot for local recording” is located on the side of the doorbell, simply covered by the standard rubber slot cover, enabling anyone who has a purpose to simply walk up and remove the microSD card at any time. This is NOT one of the flaws, thankfully, of the Eufy doorbell, which has a wireless chime unit that has the microSD card slot in it. And since that unit resides inside the house, the card is protected. So that makes this new doorbell a no-go out of the box for me. I don’t know who is responsible for the design but you could have at least put the micro SD card slot on the back where you’d have to rip the doorbell off completely or remove it in order to access it.

And after reading here that it appears you’re going to have to purchase a Cam+ subscription to get all of the featured notices, that just makes it worse. I don’t pay any annual fee for my Eufy battery doorbell and can record as much as I want depending on the size of the microSD card I install in it, which is never going to be tampered with by anyone that just walks up to my door.

I just can’t believe you put that micro SD card slot on the side! :person_facepalming:

Video Doorbell V1 had the option to be wired over a USB cable rather than AC. Does the V2 has the same option too?

Yes this one does have a USB port in the back just like the other 2 VDB’s. Just keep in mind, that just like the V1, if you use the USB port, you void the warranty because it compromises the IPxx rating.

That’s great to know. Thank you so much for your answer. I understand that it can affect my warranty.

Are you positive that the USB port can be used for powering it on and not just for debugging or pulling videos off the card? Couldn’t get any info from the product page about that.

Yes, I am sure.
If it makes you feel any better, remember that Wyze has a pretty good 30-day money-back guarantee, so there is little risk anyway.

Another thing to keep in mind: This VDBv2 does not have a portable chime like the other 2 doorbells. For that reason, if you aren’t connecting it up to a mechanical or wired digital chime, and use the USB port instead, then your last options for audible alerts will be:

  1. Your phone will notify you (which may be sufficient for your uses anyway)
  2. You can use Alexa Echo devices as “chime” anywhere you need chimes.

Maybe they’ll add other options in the future, but just want to make sure you are aware of potential limitations. :+1:

For what it is worth, I will be using 1 of these with a mechanical chime and using one of these WITHOUT a mechanical chime too.

I just realized this as well. Even the bottom would have been better, at least it would have been out of the obvious siteline.

There seems to be a few places where the designers didn’t really think everything through.

I did order one yesterday and when it gets here I’ll take a look at it, Maybe it isn’t as obvious as the pictures make it seem, but I’m not holding my breath.

Is there any Alexa trigger support? Most specifically, I would live the doorbell to automatically start a video feed on my Echo Show when the doorbell is pressed? This is the only thing stopping me from switching from my Ring Video Doorbell Pro over to this doorbell. Please add this feature!!!

FYI, it is my understanding that Alexa doesn’t ALLOW 3rd party companies to auto-stream their video doorbells to an Alexa show the way their own video doorbells can, specifically because Amazon wants to pressure users to buy their more expensive and higher profit margin Video Doorbells and subscriptions instead of switching to competitors just like is working to keep you with them.

For this particular feature, I’m not sure Wyze CAN add the feature even if they wanted to.

There are workarounds for it though. What I did to make this work was set up an Alexa routine that whenever someone presses the button on the Wyze video doorbell (that is the routine trigger), then the action I set up was a “Custom” command and I told Alexa to command itself to “show video doorbell on Living Room Alexa Show.” Then anytime someone presses the Doorbell button, Alexa commands itself to Stream the Video doorbell to that Alexa Show and it will stream the video. Then you can even add another command to wait X minutes and then command the Alexa Show to “stop” and it will stop the stream.

So if that is something you want to do right now, you can already do that with the above workaround which still works fine. Hope that helps…it’s not really Wyze’s fault that Amazon tries to lock you into their systems by preventing the competition from doing things though.

With Chime Controller.
Basically a 2nd piece of hardware that I need to install inside my existing chime ONLY if there is room and a way for me to remove it.

I can’t utilize my existing chime as is without modification.

Can you confirm if it does or does not allow Google Home devices to broadcast a “chime/announcement”. I need to be sure prior to ordering.

I asked an employee. I personally do not believe it does at this time…but the FAQs imply that it does do the chiming on Google speakers. If I get a response on this, I will try to let you know.

I do have confirmation that it definitely does do chiming on Alexa Echo devices. I am just not confident that the Google ones do it at this time, but I can’t 100% say so with certainty yet. Hopefully I’ll get an employee to absolutely check and clarify this.

Is this anti theft? What is stopping someone from just lifting it off the clip and pulling it off? Is there a free replacement? Is there a security screw somewhere? Or a mount that is anti theft? The features are cool as long as it doesn’t get just taken. Even if you have video footage that doesn’t replace your camera.
