You are right!.. There are plenty of wifi devices that are stable… But i think its that combination from internet of things where it doesn’t blend well… You have so many devices that are competing for the same bandwidth and reception that is in our homes and work environments… Then you throw in the interference from our surroundings and environment, you have for a very congested operating field.
I am totally onboard… We shouldn’t have to constantly (or frequently) have to finagle with the Wyze / router settings / unplugging and re-pluggling, etc. in order for things to be stable… It just seems like it would be so much more useful/helpful if we had more rock solid internet service providers to choose from with solid connections and bandwidth that can also self regulate and auto correct itself to avoid all the noise from other wifi devices that are not in your immediate household circle . And of course, as more and more things require wifi, the more it gets congested, but no new technology per se to handle it… Similarly to cell phones with the option of 5G, The ISP should be working on providing its users with the next generation of connectivity… (Yes, I get that they are only the providers, but with what we are paying the isps, they should be full steam ahead working with he industry movers and shakers (router manufacturers, software engineers, hardware engineers, etc.) to come up with better and faster home and reliable home connections that just work without having to worry about how many wifi devices are connecting and disconnecting…
I installed three V3s on November 22nd, so I’ve had them almost a month now and I’m loving them. Everything has been solid and reliable. They definitely connect better and faster to my WiFi. It’s especially noticeable in one location where my V2 struggled to get a good connection. In that same location the V3 connects quickly and reliably.
When I read about all the problems that people are having I wonder how long my good experience will last, but for now I feel like I have an ideal setup and I couldn’t be more pleased.
The following is technically not correct: There are plenty of wifi devices that are stable… But i think its that combination from internet of things where it doesn’t blend well… You have so many devices that are competing for the same bandwidth and reception that is in our homes and work environments… Then you throw in the interference from our surroundings and environment, you have for a very congested operating field.
That is awesome! My V3 have been “better.” But not free from its share of connectivity issues. And until we can get a more robust security cam view app, i use something like tinycam which is not ideal but works…
Unfortunately, Of course, at times, tinycam has issues with connecting with Wyze…
I received my 2 V3’s Christmas Eve.
I get an error code 07 when I try to view the recordings for about 1/4 of them. I was outside with my dogs at 1:30am and one say a rabbit in the yard. I really wanted to view that one and of course it won’t play. I don’t know if it’s a problem with the V3 or the 14 day trial of cam-plus. It’s happening with recordings from all my cameras including a pan and a V2. Not exactly a good selling feature for cam-plus in my opinion.
Last night’s test: indoors, looking out the window, NightVision(IR) OFF. Side-by-side with a V2.
No contest, V3 wins,
The Starlight night vision is impressive.
Today I moved the V3 outside. (temporary location for testing)
It’s out in the open, no cover. I’m concerned about water infiltration, should I be?
For now, I covered the microphone hole with a small tab of packing tape:
No, the new Wyze cam V3 is an indoor & outdoor camera. It’s IP65 Rated Weather Resistant.
It was 10 degrees F last night here in Virginia, and I have two v3 cams installed outside. It has rained, snowed, and sleeted on mine without any problems. No need to tape up the holes. These are great little cameras.
Yes, i agree. These are indeed very nifty little cameras. (I hope Wyze will make these in a black exterior housing variant as well.)
I have one installed under an eve and another fairly out in the elements, so far so good. I do not see any issues with degradation from being outside… (well none so far!)
I think the V3 is a tremendous improvement over V2. The night vision is incredible using the night vision turned on OR off. Picture quality both during daylight and the pitch black of night is amazing. I use my V2 and V3 outside under my protected porch with an overhang and they work fine… even in a low of 18 degrees. I’ve got my second V3 on its way and I’ll switch out the V2 when my V3 arrives on Tuesday.
I am having the same exact connection issues as you, which did not exist with my V2’s…I kind of regret replacing them now.
I did the same tests. I even upgraded my network to a Netgear Wifi 6 whole home mesh (needed it anyway) and still have connectivity issues. Even when we had our sub standard router, I never had connectivity issues with the V2 cameras in exactly the same locations. I have moved the one mesh satellite to the garage so the camera is literally about 3ft and one wall away…still wont stay connected. I test internet speeds out there standing right next to the camera and im getting like 170-180mbs download which is pretty fast. I have one of the V3 cameras in our crawl space inside the house, and it always stays connected. It is farther away than the cam outside to the satellite. Something is wrong with the V3’s.
Sorry WYZE, You make a nice "inexpensive camera but… Why pay $24 for a subscription? Save your money and buy a REAL NICE camera with All the "bells & whistles, eh? [Wyze V3 Cameras](
I have Wyze three v.3 cams, one v.2 cam. a Nest IQ Cam, and two Canary Cams. Have you seen what the other companies charge for their subscriptions and how worthless their cameras are if you DO NOT buy a subscription? My Wyze v.3 day and night vision far exceeds the video of Canary and definitely exceeds the night vision of my Nest. PLUS, the Canary and especially the Nest Cam cost considerably more than the Wyze.
True… Especially nowadays, so many companies are moving towards the subscription model for a steady generation of revenues…Long gone are the days of one time pay for life… With that in mind, thus far, Wyze have been pretty fair with the pricing as long as they continue to improve and work on additional features and “perfect” the ones that they are offering…
In many case, just because you are paying more for something doesn’t mean it’s actually worth more.
Its about what you are looking for (product and features) and what value you place on it that truly represents a good value. I agree that the Wyzecam V3 with the starlight sensor is an excellent value with its night (dark) viewing capabilities and in color!
I have 3 Nest Outdoor Cameras and for their price, they stink. Their Zone notifications do not work correctly, you have to drill a hole in the side of your house as big as your thumb to get the cable thru… and the past 6 months the Nest app is slower and slower. I’d like to try Blink next.
Very true. However, my cameras have been outdoors in rain, sleet, and now snow and work perfectly. I don’t anticipate them being submerged anytime soon unless Kansas City is struck by a tsunami and now that 2020 is over, I don’t see that happening.
Not sure about the V2 but the V3 gives non-stop notifications at night if it rains or snows even with motion sensitivity at 1. I can get 20 plus notifications per hour. IR is not usable at that point.
With the V.3, I’ve found no need to turn IR on at all at night. It’s almost like daylight and I have my detection sensitivity set at 50%. Of course, there’s little to blow about since leaves are gone… but bushes can be an issue. I adjust the detection zones to avoid them. All is fine now, but it may be an issue in the Spring, Summer, and Fall with the leaves back. I’ll have to wait and see. Rain and snow as well as sleet has been no issue. With IR on, I definitely see the droplets falling by the lens. But, with IR off, there’s no issues at all .
