Wyze V2 Doorbell not longer recording events or sending notifications

@Stompsville - Could you provide some more info? What version doorbell, v1, v2 or Pro, although I know the subject of the thread is the v2. (Nothing taken for granted) Which Alexa, the phone app or an echo show device and which one? Last update on cameras and Wyze app firmware? More info provided the better the help.

With the latest firmware, I still donā€™t have consistent doorbell push notifications. Sometimes it doesnā€™t even log the event, sometimes it does, and sometimes the notification comes in. I have 1.4Gbps Internet, excellent wifi coverage, and the cameras/live view work fine.

Speaking of doorbell button presses, another thing I noticed is you can NOT look back to a previous day for button push/ring events. It is almost like they sell these doorbells as cameras, and not doorbells. This is further evident by not having doorbell button press as a notification type. It is almost like these doorbells are just 16volt hardwired cameras if you want to give up your hardwired doorbell. Lol

New firmware 4.51.2.0379 has resolve the doorbell issue for us, had to factory reset the doorbell to be able to update new firmware release.

You seem to be thinking about this as an either/or scenario when itā€™s not that way for everyone. Thatā€™s why I was specific about firmware versions in my previous postā€”and I believe itā€™s important to be specific rather than writing in generalitiesā€”because weā€™re not all operating with the same conditions here.

Yes, if someone has a device on firmware 4.51.1.9341 or later, then it probably makes sense to try installing the latest firmware update in an effort to see if the new version resolves problems that version 4.51.1.9341 seemed to introduce. I donā€™t disagree with that.

Thereā€™s more than one ā€œfirst optionā€ because thereā€™s more than one ā€œold firmwareā€.

Hopefully this helps with that.

It isnā€™t, though, but I donā€™t expect any device to work perfectly. I actually do think my doorbell experience has the potential to be better with WDR (which firmware 4.51.1.9341 introduced) because of the way the colors wash out on bright, sunny days, but so farā€”in my opinion, based on reports of other users that Iā€™ve read hereā€”the risks outweigh the reward, which is why Iā€™ve chosen to wait.

Absolutely. Thatā€™s another reason to wait, in my opinion.

I welcome the correction from @sdoxsee if Iā€™ve misread, but I believe that weā€™re both still on the 4.51.1.8444 firmware and imagine that weā€™re probably thinking along similar lines on this issue.

:pencil2: Edit: Also, welcome to the Forum, @kharchae!

Iā€™m genuinely glad the update worked for you, and I appreciate your sharing your experience here!

Yup. After replacing my original unit (because of being unable to roll back firmware version), Iā€™ve stuck with 4.51.1.8444 (pre wdr) because it works.

The push notification problems when pressing the bell button that were found here were resolved with firmware 4.51.1.9802! Now I see that version 4.51.2.0379 is now available, I really donā€™t have the courage to update and stop everything again!

A post was merged into an existing topic: Wyze app and firmware release - Released 7/16/2024

Iā€™ve been running fine on 4.51.2.0379 with plenty of notifications. I just received the notice that the beta 4.51.2.0578 is available.

Just installed the new 4.51.2.0578 beta on two doorbell v2 units and still have inconsistent doorbell press notifications. I am also using the just released final v3 of the Wyze app. Maybe it has to do with having two doorbells under one account/app? Do they test with an account that has multiple doorbells registered? The camera on each works fine, mechanical chime works fine, no connection issues, etcā€¦ it is just the notifications that are inconsistent for both of my doorbells.

yeah i didn the latest firmware update and am getting all kinds of notifications now. i just want to be able to shut off the announcements when it senses some one and leave it off permanently since it seems to be an annoyance to some people

I just want my doorbell v2 units to actually consistently send notifications when the door bell is pressed. I am on the newest beta version. I am ready to help review and write code for them.

  • I have two doorbell v2 units.
  • They are connected to a 16V mechanical dual chime using standard way per wyze (chime has two dings for front, one ding for back).
  • They are connected to modern 16V-30vA transformer.
  • Both have excellent wifi connection.
  • There are no issues with video live feed, accessing, mechanical chime going off when button pressed, etc. Everything but notifications when bell is pressed works.
  • I have notifications on with motion and sound notifications disabled.
  • I have external bell sound disabled.
  • They are set to mechanical chime.
  • I donā€™t have paid service.
  • I have high speed micro sd card with 24hr recording enabled.
  • Disabling mechanical chime does seem to fix the consistency
  • Disabling notifications doesnā€™t change things
  • Enabling doorbell device sound does change things.
  • I tried resetting the services, reboot nightly, etc.
  • I donā€™t believe this is a power or networking issue. Mechanical chime works every time for both units and live video feeds work perfectly.
  • No other device that does push notifications from my network have consistency issues, like garage door openers.
  • Is this a cloud issue where there is a timeout and/or in ability to retry? Is there a bug in the motion vs doorbell press, or timing/queuing issue in the local device itself?

Wyze, can you disclose what you fixed to supposedly fix the notification issue? Did you only fix for motion or also doorbell press notifications?

Iā€™m on the latest firmware for the doorbell cameras and theyā€™re all working fine now.

Is that firmware version 4.51.2.0578? I understand that was paused for a while, but the Release Notes & Firmware page shows that it should be available again. The app (both v3.0 and v2.5x) is still showing me only an update path from v4.51.1.8444 to v4.51.2.0379, so I donā€™t know if thereā€™s still an issue with the roll-out or if it requires a stepwise update.

Iā€™ll plan to ask about that in the announcement topic if I donā€™t see it within another day or so.

Yes I am on the 4.51.2.0578 firmware. Yes it was paused on my app also for a long time. Iā€™m still on the old app the 2.5 read too many people didnā€™t like the 3.0 so Iā€™ve been holding off installing it.

Just had the popup to install 4.51.2.0578.
I really should not update since things to be working OK since 4.51.2.0379, but letā€™s roll the dice : )

Since there are a lot of people adding similar but different issues to this thread, I wanted to follow up with those who were experiencing the issues I mentioned in my original post. Specifically, to those of you whose v2 was recording in slo-mo and/or missing motion events entirely:

Is your doorbell v2 behaving now?
