Wyze Smoke/CO Detector

Good news! You can ALREADY use Home Assistant remotely with full android control for free right NOW!

A lot of people just do a reverse proxy or use a free VPN connection to have full android control remotely from anywhere!

The Nabu Casa cloud-based subscription for Home Assistant is just a simple convenience, not a requirement. Lots of people just do it themselves.

Remote Proxy has free options like ngrok or Cloudflare Tunnel to do it for you for free.
For VPN’s people use Tailscale or ZeroTier One.

Either way, you can use Home Assistant from anywhere for free.

Though to be fair, you do still need your own Home Assistant hub/server…You can use virtually anything though, a cheap R-Pi, old laptop/desktop, mini-computer. It doesn’t even have to be a dedicated one. I ran Home Assistant as a virtual machine for a long time. To me, it is similar to having to buy a hub for the HMS or a Base for the WCO’s or whatever. Basically just look at it as a little Hub for all your devices. It doesn’t need a big fancy expensive server. Minimum requirements are only 1GHz single core CPU, 512MB RAM, 8GB storage. So, basically even the cheapest thing you can get can pretty much share a HA instance.

But anyway, not trying to side-track too much…I am just looking into this myself right now because I want smart Smoke/CO Detection sensors in my house, and Wyze said they’re not going to do it, so now I am looking for a way to not waste everything I already have invested in (still be able to use my Wyze stuff) while just adding some new stuff I need, and this seems the best solution for getting new smoke sensors now.

I haven’t had time to research them yet, but they have had a considerable presence in the market for some time.

That depends on your insurance company’s requirements for monitored Smoke\CO.

I don’t think you missed anything. They have deliberately shifted their focus away from any Smart Home products.

And there is the issue. When they overcome that, sign me up.

Yes please!

Considering how long this has gone on, they could have gracefully resolved the situation at hand by suggesting then that ‘we recommend these 100% compatible smoke/CO detectors for model xxxxx’ maybe they can provide the list under the different wyze hub model url’s on the support page.

As of now, the lack of a linked central reporting smoke/CO detector is a very critical shortfall!

I can understand their rationale about not being able to provide a smoke/CO detector that can “disrupt” the market. But I think they’re missing the wider point. They are selling a Home Monitoring service. People need Smoke detectors and some insurances require smoke detection monitoring to get discounts. It doesn’t make sense for us to buy Wyze Home monitoring for burglary, then pay someone else for smoke detection monitoring. Nobody is going to do that. They’ll just switch to the company that provides both if that’s what they need. So the point is that Wyze doesn’t need to make the best or cheapest smoke detector out there. It’s okay if theirs is the same price as others on the market. They don’t have to disrupt it, they just have to give their Home monitoring users an option that will work with their system, and the incentive is that they’ll get more people willing to pay for their subscription which brings ongoing income. That’s the reason they should do it. In fact I think I am going to bring this up in the next AMA.

Yes, this is the way I am thinking as well. Wyze has practically all the bits and pieces to make it happen… actually very easily. However, for a reason I don’t understand their management can’t see the big picture.

Hopefully they will be receptive to this idea!
I would like the detector to work with smoke, Fire, CO2, and Propane/Natural Gas too!
I like the idea of an External Siren discussed in another thread too that could be added to the HMS system.

Hi Carverofchoice,

I recently completed building a new house and my insurance company required me to have home monitoring for burglary/trespass and smoke detection. I subscribed to Wyze’s Home monitoring program, done by Noonlight, for burglary/trespass, water and freeze. I have 9 First Alert smoke/co detectors hard wired in the house such that when one is triggered they all go off. After waiting for nearly a year for Wyze to come out with a smoke detector alarm “listener” that could be included in their home monitoring program, I ran out of time. Seems silly since Wyze already has this technology installed in some of their cameras. Anyway … I installed the X-Sense Listener, and subscribed to the X-Sense Home monitoring program, interestingly also done by Noonlight. Problem solved. By the way, if Wyze did produce and market a smoke/co detector I would not use it. I trust First Alert and Kidde products. All I ever wanted from Wyze was a “Listener” product like X-Sense. https://www.x-sense.com/products/x-sense-wi-fi-listener-for-smoke-carbon-monoxide-alarms-not-for-monitoring-smoke-or-co-model-sal51-works-with-sbs50-base-station?_pos=1&_sid=18087819d&_ss=r&variant=44169795174640

An update for those who might still be shopping for a monitored Smoke\CO system.

I just ordered the X-Sense FS31 Interconnected Smart Smoke Alarm Kit direct from X-Sense. They are currently offering Black Friday pricing for the kit for $69.99. it includes three XS01-M Interconnected Smoke Alarms (individually $29.99 or a 3 pack for $79.99) and the SBS50 Base Station Hub. I also ordered the XC01-M Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm that is the only CO Detector Alarm compatible with the SBS50 Base Station Hub and Monitoring.

And, even though these were Black Friday Sale priced, by entering Promotion Code XSENSE15, it knocked $10 off the total. All 5 items for $99.49 and they offer Amazon Pay.

All components are compatible with the X-Sense Protect + monitoring thru Noonlight, the same monitoring as the HMS. Once I get them installed, I will be activating this for $49.99 annually.

Thank you, SlabSlayer. I appreciate the heads-up, and just ordered mine. This is a good brand that knows what they are doing.

nd the SBS50 Base Station Hub. I also ordered the [XC01-M Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm] that is the only CO Detector Alarm compatible with the SBS50 Base Station Hub.[/quote]

Wait… what… Wait… NONE of the COMBO Smoke/CO alarms work other than that one??

I was reviewing this… XSense to possibly be a different route v. my other plan…

I only use AC powered interconnected devices so NONE of the XSense can work with the base to do alerts and CALL FIRE???

Like these XP04 Hardwired Smoke and CO Detector/Alarm | X-Sense New Arrival

Don’t these need the “Base” to connect back to do the alert… Their manuals are less than informative on this…

Or these have to have the Listener to do the interconnects to the monitoring??? Hmmm… not what I am after… hmmmmmmm

Looks like my other plan may still be the better plan… hmmmmm…

POST EDITED BASED ON NEW INFORMATION FROM THE X-SENSE APP AS POSTED BELOW

No. I emailed them questions to the same effect. Combo units don’t work interconnected with the hub or are compatible with monitoring.

There is one Combo Unit that is listed within the X-Sense App as compatible with Protect + Monitoring, but not interconnected with the SBS50 Hub: Combo Unit SC07-WX listed below.

Because I wanted the monitoring specifically, I was limited to only the following interconnected models (incomplete listing by X-Sense) that are compatible with the Monitoring Protect + as per their Web Site:

From:

NOTE: Their Web Site appears to have an incomplete list of Monitored Models. See below for the list published in their App.

There is only one stand alone CO Detector compatible with the interconnected hub. The XC04-WX, while not interconnected with the Hub, is compatible with Monitoring. Of the three Smoke Detectors compatible with monitoring, the XS01-WX and XS03-WS are not interconnected, they are stand alone WiFi, and they are not Combo Smoke\CO. There is also one detector that connects to the SBS10 hub.

I was informed that they do not offer any Combo Smoke\CO detectors that are compatible with monitoring and the interconnectivity Hub at the same time. The Combo Unit SC07-WX is compatible with monitoring but not interconnected with the hub.

The hub is required for the interconnectivity feature. If the Smoke Detector is not interconnected capable, I would assume that it doesn’t work with the hub, but I don’t believe the hub is required for the Monitoring as the WiFi stand alone detectors listed above below do work with monitoring.

The XP04 you linked does not appear to be compatible with the monitoring or interconnectivity.

Does X-Sense monitoring program support X-Sense listener? This is not clearly explained on their website.

I have 3 nest smoke/co detectors in the house. Wonder if I could get the Smoke detector and base for the monitoring, then add the listener to “link up” my existing nest devices.

The X-Sense Listener, although not listed, is also compatible with the Monitoring Program thru Noonlight. I know this to be 100% true because that is what I am using. Be sure to get the X-Sense wifi model that connects to the SBS50 base station.

Oh… well customer, LOST.

WIRED INTERCONNECTED are the only things that qualify for me… and I already have existing wired smoke… I am going to replace with COMBO… I am NOT PAYING 2x to get CO and a smoke… nope.

And before any replies, no “listeners” do NOT QUALIFY either. It must be WIRED to AC, WIRED INTERCONNECTED… Wireless interconnect are not approved…

So BACK to Plan A it is…

That is really disappointing… I’d hope this would end run or stop a battle over this… sadly, I guess not… So Plan A… which probably makes more sense any way since I have Kidde alarms already anyway…

Sighhh…

“Wireless interconnect are not approved…”

Approved by whom? You and/or an insurance company?

Yes, I verified this by myself as well. Today I installed the X-sense alarm listener and it is covered by Premium+ service. They should update their marketing material.

Insurance, NO DISCOUNT. None I’ve ever had will accept “listening” fire alarm connections… It MUST come from the detectors directly.
