Try disabling, “Smart Track”.
But will it still follow someone crossing my yard? I recorded a video of it but don’t know if I am allowed to post it.
Normally when it follows something it will put the green box around whatever it is.
If I turn off smart track and it does not follow then I might as well return it and put my regular v4 back up…
I don’t know, it’s a new feature and I don’t see anything in Wyze announcements.
There’s an equivalent feature in pan cam V3, “Track Motion”, and even there, there’s no green box, either.
Earlier I was out in my yard it put the green box around me and followed me. Same thing when the trash truck, put a green box around it and followed it down the road.
I will test it shortly and see if it still follows me…
I always disable the green box. It’s too distracting for me.
That’s probably where the name, “Smart” comes from; it thinks it’s smarter than you.
If you’re using the WYZE router, the 6E is used as a backhaul to connect to any satellite mesh routers. Their home devices will be using either the 2.4 or the 5 GHz channels.
Thanks Nick. I am using a tp-link BE10000 wifi7 mesh router. The main router is in my home, and I’m doing cat6a ethernet backhaul from the 2 satellite WAPs back to the main. It works marvelously, I just misread the documentation thinking the pancam v4 could hop on the 6ghz channel.
I am 100% convinced now it has to do with the amount of power that the motor requires to pan and scan. I turned that feature off and both cameras have been working for six hours straight now without one single interruption.
As soon as I put pen and scan back on it will drop in a matter of minutes. I thought maybe they hire quality Cable would help, but that wasn’t even enough.
The drawer of the motor must be causing a voltage drop internally which causes the camera to lose the ability to maintain a connection.
Unless there’s a shielding issue which the motor noise could be interfering with the Wi-Fi signal we’re back and you were here all night last night moving too fast for my security camera so it wasn’t one of them they definitely know maybe you should question them at some point do I tell you how to do your job but that is an amusing idea🧐
Curious if anyone has theirs facing a parking lot. Despite turning off vehicle detection, mine is obsessed with a parked car. I’ve set the home and detection zone to exclude the parked car, but somehow it still sees it and it just can’t look away. If it manages to break it’s gaze and go back to it’s home position, it seems to act like the motion of returning to home is registering the parked car as moving and goes right back to staring again.
Wyze definitely didn’t teach this thing manners because it can’t stop staring.
I too have the same happening here.
it wouldn’t have to be excessive current draw from the motors. it sounds more like an inductive spike disrupting the logic chips voltage and making it lose functionality. that would explain why your better cable didn’t help. but to cement that thought, try a higher capacity usb wall power supply-like from an ipad.
Just an FYI for anyone with a new Cam Pan v4 who adds it to the app and is no longer seeing it: It appears to now require the newest app version. Yesterday I was able to see Cam Pan v4 in the app and available to add while I was using Android Wyze app version 3.6.6.683. Since the new app was released today (App Update - Released 8/28/2025), Cam Pan v4 completely disappeared and was no longer available when looking for it to add as a new device. Updating the app to version 3.7.0.695 resolved this, so I imagine Wyze threw some kind of back-end switch after the new app dropped that requires that version or later with this new Cam.
I can’t speak directly to the iOS experience, as I don’t use that, but I would expect it to be the same.
Hopefully this helps any new Cam Pan v4 users who suddenly have “missing” cameras.
I was wondering why that is. I added a pan V4, using my regular phone, but I can’t see it with my older phone. The newer phone has app v3.7.0(695), older phone has app v3.6.7(694). Older phone won’t update to 695.
More results from my tests:
• Any time the camera is manually panned, it only stays there for a second and it immediately goes back to the home position. There isn’t enough time take in the new scene. With the pan V3, it usually lasts a minute before it goes back.
• There’s a slider control that supposedly allows to change the panning speed. It’s really slow. But it won’t change the setting.
• The connection is now stable. I haven’t seen any disconnect. But the camera is only about 15 feet from the router. I tested it at a point closer to one of my working pan V3s. It wouldn’t connect.
It’s too late now, but my very first question to today’s AMA, would have been, “Did anyone test this camera?”
It feels like I’m beta testing.
I wonder if this is another phased roll-out with the new app then and maybe your older phone will get the update at some point. If that phone is already running v3.6x, then I’m not thinking of any phone limitation that would prevent it from updating to the latest version. Have you tried clearing the Google Play Store app’s cache to see if that forces a refresh on updates? Instead of using the regular Play Store launcher, I use the “My apps” shortcut from my home screen, and sometimes I have to close that, swipe the Play Store app away from running applications, and launch “My apps” again in order to get it to recognize available updates for me to review.
As a side note, I also tried clearing the in-app cache for the older Wyze app to see if that would show Cam Pan v4 before I did the app update, and that didn’t have any apparent effect. That’s why I think the new Cam now requires the latest app version.
I plan to replace the Wyze Cam Pan v3 that monitors my front yard with a Wyze Cam Pan v4. I’ll then move the pan v3 to the backyard to join the v4 there. I love the V4 resolution and its spotlight, but I’d like to be able to follow the skunks, possums, rabbits, and so on as they move through my yard. I’ll probably also replace the pan v3 in the carport with a pan v4 and move that pan v3 to the front of the side yard, facing toward the v4 at the back corner of the house that currently monitors the side yard. That should cover most of my property.
What sold me on the pan v4s over the duo was the SD card. I don’t like that the SD card is shared by both cameras.
It didn’t make a difference.
Seemed worth a shot. Might just be a waiting game then.
For those interested in the answers from the Product Manager during the “Ask Me Anything” Event on Reddit, I copy and pasted screenshots of all the questions/answers here:
Honestly, the Product Manager gave awesome answers! Makes me pretty tempted to go out and buy more of these Pan V4’s! They really put a lot into it! Can someone without a Cam Plus subscription who has a Pan V4 verify the following for me:
On AI detection and tracking: Pan v4 provides local AI detection for free ; only cloud video storage requires a subscription to cover storage costs.
I didn’t realize this before now. Can someone confirm how much AI detection you can benefit from without a subscription on this camera? Are you able to get AI notifications or just event labels (for context, Wyze claims the V3 Pro has free person detection too, but it only does event LABELS but won’t allow people to get Person Detection NOTIFICATIONS, which I have long complained to them about, so I’d like someone to verify if they’re doing the same thing here or if you actually get Person NOTIFICATIONS with the Pan V4 now too). If you truly get AI notifications for free without a subscription, then I want to seriously praise them for finally listening and making this great step and I will probably be recommending these a lot now! Especially since he also promised:
RTSP is on our roadmap we will support Pan v4 with RTSP in the future.
The initial Pan v4 fw release doesn’t support RTSP but we will support RTSP in Pan v4 in future fw update.
And I’m also really excited about this answer!
This AMA had so many awesome answers. I definitely feel a lot better about recommending this camera model to friends and family after hearing a lot of what the PM answered in the AMA!
The wifi issue appears to have quieted down at least in my use case. I tested for about 8 hours 10 ft from the router and it was flawless on the 5gHz band. Feeling brave I put it back into “the shed” with its marginal wifi signal. To my surprise it connected and has stayed connected overnight on the 5gHz band. Makes me wonder if Wyze was making backend changes as we all got these first units.
The Pan Control is basically worthless if a few seconds after you get to your destination the unit “goes home”. This is with Smart Track and Pan Scan turned off. This is the deal killer for me as it negates a basic feature of the unit.
There also appears to be a bug in the Pan Cam Controls. At the bottom of the page there is a configuration choice called Manual Pan Tilt Speed.
This appears to control how fast the unit will move when going from way point to way point or even when you are using manual controls. It appears that it may not reliably make it through a power on cycle. If after power up your unit has a case of “molasses slow” check this option as it has probably erroneously selected “slow”. Changing it to fast cures the problem until the next power cycle, in which case you don’t know what your going to get. This one is just a PITA.
That’s all for now.
