Order placed!

I have a 4 year old V3 on a corner of my house. This will make a perfect replacement.

In the marketing, it says it has “4 unique mounting options”, then fails to mention what those are. Cmon!

I think I saw a 3/4” screw mounting option, but not sure.

CORRECTION: the cam does come with a 1/4” -20 screw receiver, which is identical to the screw mount in other Wyze cams.

Does the new duo cam pan also have digital zoom?

It has the pinch zoom like the other cameras.

Is there an outdoor power adapter we can use until the Wyze version is released? I see Blink has a usb c adaptor.

I would just run a search for USB-C Outdoor power adapter.

Any should work Because this device has a little fishtail adapter that should let anything fit. You could even search for an outdoor power adapter that works for blink cameras. Whatever you do just make sure it is a USBC adapter.

@habib, they’re trying to reel you back in; they’re quoting Canadian dollars

Would the L-shaped USB-C Adapter that makes the Wyze Outdoor Power Adapter compatible with Battery Cam Pro work with this? It might look funny having a 90° bend into the Duo Cam Pan’s pigtail, but that seems like it should work, right?

I don’t have either. I’m just looking for more context for @galpdawg’s question, which also seems like a good suggestion for Wyze to release a straight Micro-B-female-to-USB-C-male adapter to use with their own Outdoor Power Adapter (unless they’re developing a different outdoor power product). :man_shrugging:

The tech spec says the cable is USB - A to USB - C

I interpret that as a cable with a USB-A male end for connecting to the standard indoor power adapter’s USB-A female output and a USB-C male end for connecting to the camera’s input. I think Wyze’s Outdoor Power Adapter terminates in a Micro-B male end for connecting to most previous Wyze Cam Models, so it’s nice to see a shift to a USB-C power input, and what I was suggesting was a straight (not L-shaped) dongle for adapting that Micro-B male to a USB-C male so that the existing Outdoor Power Adapter could be used. When I wrote that, I hadn’t yet read the section on the new product’s page that mentions the “Compatible Outdoor Power Adapter…coming soon”.

Not sure if I understand this correctly; is Wyze rush shipping (next day!) a product missing either its power adapter or USB cable? Although I’m positive I can locate the necessary parts in my parts box, the typical user is unlikely to do so.

I don’t think so. If you check out the unboxing video (cued up to the relevant time), you’ll see the typical indoor-rated power adapter and a USB-A-to-USB-C cable. I think the most recent posts were specifically about an outdoor-rated power adapter, which apparently Wyze has not yet made available.

They should get with the program like Apple finally did and make everything USB-C like the rest of the world.

My understanding is that Apple was essentially forced to do that by the EU. I think this new release is an indication that Wyze might be moving in that direction, as well.

My new iPhone 16E is USB C both ends, my other old phone was USB C to Lightning cable.

Yeah I ended up ordering a outdoor power for eufy that was USB C.

Yeah I think that’s a result of “the ‘common charging’ solution”. I don’t know if any of that specifically applies to non-portable powered (but not “charged”) devices, like a mounted and wired camera, but from a manufacturing efficiency standpoint I’d imagine that it makes sense to move toward a single standard for power transmission.

That makes sense to me as long as the USB-C male fits within the Duo Cam Pan’s boot (at least in the unboxing video it looks like it has the typical silicone sleeve on the pigtail) and provides the necessary amperage. I was surprised to see that this new camera includes a 5V ⎓ 1.5A adapter (if the specs are noted correctly), whereas Cam Pan v3 uses a 5V ⎓ 2A adapter.

Correct.

To clarify, Apple did not do this willingly. They were legally ordered to do this by the EU, and complied begrudgingly after lobbying lawmakers for YEARS and fighting it tooth and nail saying it would destroy innovation, etc. They could’ve continued their proprietary degraded connection scam in the USA, but it would’ve required some inefficiencies, etc that just weren’t worth it. They are not happy about being forced into it.

Yeah, what @Crease said. :+1:

Yeah, that’s part of what I meant by the inefficiencies if they wanted to keep doing lightning in the USA still. They could do it, but then they would be more fragmented, and they pride themselves on everything working together well with high level compatibility, so it was better to make it universal even if they lose some of their proprietary licensing income out of it.

Yeah, that is very surprising, considering the Pan V3 has 1 less camera/spotlight and lower resolution, it’s crazy that this duo camera with higher resolution has reduced amps by 25% instead of equal or higher amps.
