Are you considering making an updated “Pro” version of this Palm lock in the future that will include extra features like a doorbell camera with facial recognition unlock? Screen on the inside position to see who’s on the other side of the door? NFC scanner? Maybe a more secure keyless lock? Other things?
Wow, these are some really great ideas! We do believe Palm Lock is a good start for Wyze embracing even more of the latest and greatest features and technology, and the plan is to then get them integrated into the platform. That way, we can potentially provide even more possibilities for your door unlock/lock experience! We believe the door is not just a mechanical function for your house, but also an entry point for your smart home experience. We are continuing to work on even more possibilities to help make your smart home more smart.
How hard would it be for a user to replace the included keyhole cylinder?
Rationale: Some people may want to swap it out for one that fits a cylinder that can be rekeyed, and others find keyholes to generally be a security vulnerability. And would like to make it harder to pick open.
Would squeezing something like super glue in the key hole damage the functionality of the deadbolt mechanism in anyway, or will it continue to work with the palm scanning, keypad, and app even if the keyhole is jammed up intentionally?
We actually invited a professional locksmith to rekey the lock and are happy to report that it works. We highly recommend users hire a professional locksmith to rekey the lock, if needed.
While we do not think you will need to rekey this unless it is to make a single key open multiple locks since we used the same industrial standard that other lock manufacturers use for the keys and key holes.
As for squeezing super glue into the key hole, you would still be able to continue using the other functions such as Palm Scanning, keypad, and app options to control the lock. The only thing impacted in that scenario would be that the physical key won’t work.
Does it allow you to use a key for backup?
Yes! Palm Lock comes with physical key sets for keyed entry.
Even though the Wyze HACS package is unofficial, can we expect any HA integration with it?
Unfortunately, no.
Can we expect Matter support for this device? Matter has a framework for locks so is it something that this device can do in the future?
We have been hearing increasing requests for us to support Matter for our future products. We are taking this into consideration and planning to do more exploration on this.
There are many unlock methods, would it be possible to add multi-step unlock?

As a Product Manager, how much “independence” do you get when designing and bringing a product to market? How big is the team that works on the product?
I do get a lot of independence in shaping the product and driving it to market. At the same time, I work closely with a cross-functional team and testers—we get great input from them, and many people contribute at different levels to make the product successful.
How did you determine the battery life? How many uses per day is that based on? Is that if the sensors are turned off in power saving mode?
Also, I think the backup battery is an awesome feature for a smart device with a rechargeable main battery.
We performed testing with ‘auto mode’. This means Palm Lock will wake up by default about 2-3ft for distance or up close at around 4-7 inches. This was based on a total number of (20) for daily unlock/lock actions. Based on these variables, we tested the usage of the battery life with how many days it can last and then calculated how many months it will last.
We are thrilled to hear that you think the backup battery feature is awesome! We have found that charging batteries can be an inconvenient pain point for most battery powered devices. Being able to keep using the device while charging the main battery will provide a hassle-free experience for users.
The Palm Lock is ANSI-BHMA certified. Can you share what level it achieved and what that means for long-term durability?
The Palm Lock being rated ANSI/BHMA Grade 3. It means the lock meets the basic residential standard for durability and security. Specifically, Grade 3 locks are tested to withstand at least 200,000 open/close cycles and a set level of force against impacts and pulling. In practical terms, this level is considered sufficient for everyday home use and typically translates into a service life of 20 years or more under normal residential conditions.
While Grade 3 is the entry level (Grades 2 and 1 are higher, often used in commercial or heavy-traffic environments), it still ensures that the lock can handle the long-term demands of a typical household with reliable performance.
Why no matter support? Feels like an easy addon being it’s wifi

Regarding the key unlock method - I see the unit comes with a set of unique keys. Are they SC1 or KW1 keyway? Also, can customers change the keyway of the Palm Lock on their own?
Great question! It utilizes the SC1 Keyway. Customers cannot change keyway on their own due to different keyways using different width within the body of the lock. Changing that manually may bring new hardware issues to the mechanical structure of lock, which is why we recommend hiring a professional locksmith to help.
How well is the scanner able to combat direct sunlight for doors that face the sun?
If the sunlight directly covers the palm reader, the success rate of palm scan will be affected. However, as long as the palm is at the correct angle and covers the palm reader, based on info gathered throughout testing, the success rate will still perform at a high level.
What was the inspiration behind the Palm Lock?
The inspiration is quite interesting. During our market research, we noticed growing complaints about fingerprint readers—many users found they often failed, and kids or older family members struggled to scan their fingerprints reliably. At the same time, people were asking for a more low-profile, stylish design for their front door. We started thinking: what if a lock could wake up as someone approached, and unlock almost like using “the Force” from Star Wars or something out of Iron Man? That idea eventually led to the creation of the Palm Lock.
Other than this Palm lock (which you developed), what’s your favorite Wyze product, and why?
My all time favorites are Pan v4, Floodlight Pro and Bulb Cam. For Pan v4, you have 4K resolution providing a crystal clear image, it’s resting on our beloved Pan v3 base, and it looks really amazing in any outdoor environment. For the Floodlight Pro, when used in combination with the with Outdoor Power Adapter, makes the installation so easy to install by myself without needing to hire an electrician to install one of the best quality Floodlight Cameras on the market. For Bulb Cam, it is more great proof of Wyze innovation and creativity. For years I tried to find a good way to install a camera near my garage and with this camera, all you need to do is just screw it in exactly like a light bulb, which way easier than mounting a Floodlight Cam, and you get a perfect view to cover 90% of the area. With the bulb built in, you never have to worry about being stuck in the dark.
Any silver colours in the works? Want it to match my doorbell duo.
That is a great idea.! When we designed this product we were thinking that it makes a great combo with Wyze Doorbell Duo. The dark color you see on the website is actually not as dark as it looks. I personally think the current one matches doorbell duo perfectly.

This isn’t the first lock from Wyze, so how much did Wyze learn over the years from the current locks about what works well, what doesn’t work well and what users wanted the most from their locks.
Palm Lock is really our answer to the feedback and questions we’ve received from our previous lock products. Over the years, we’ve learned a lot from both Wyze Lock and Wyze Lock Bolt—what users loved, where they faced challenges, and what they were asking for the most. As a result, Palm Lock comes with built-in Wi-Fi, Auto Lock, a more reliable and contactless way to unlock, and manual keys. It’s the culmination of those lessons, designed to deliver a smoother and more dependable experience.
Does this lock use PIR sensors to turn on the screen and come out of snooze when someone approaches?
How far away can it detect a person coming up to the door? Is it triggered by trees and bushes?
Palm Lock uses mm Wave Radar to detect motion and wake up the lock as needed. With default auto mode, it will detect a person from 2-3 ft away, which can provide a seamless experience of show palm → unlock → enter → auto lock. The entire process is pretty smooth and solid.
We have also embedded with a smart algorithm to filter out the unwanted moving objects like trees, bushes, moving cars, or animals for example. If some objects keep triggering false wake-ups, which causes premature battery drain, the radar can also adjust its detection range automatically to a read within a closer range. This helps ensure that only persons close enough will be detected to wake up the lock.
How resilient is the lock against false/faked palm prints? How does the scanner verify the integrity of the palm prints?
Our palm vein recognition is designed to resist fake or copied palm prints because it scans the unique vein patterns beneath your skin, not surface features. Using near-infrared light and live blood-flow detection, the scanner ensures every unlock attempt comes from a real, living hand. This makes palm vein recognition far more secure and harder to spoof than traditional fingerprint
Certifications like ANSI-BHMA and IEC62133 suggest a serious investment in quality. Was that a strategic shift for Wyze, or just part of this product’s DNA?
ANSI-BHMA is the standard that all Wyze Locks follow. We utilize UL2054 in alignment with the US standard, while IEC62133 is the Euro standard for batteries. At Wyze, we always strive for providing the best quality at the lowest possible prices, it is not a strategic shift. This is found in all of our product’s DNA.
Will you be revisiting the Wyze Lock Bolt at some point to add remote locking and unlocking to that design?
I love the concept of a key-less lock that can’t be picked, but I would love to remotely unlock the door with my app as well
We will definitely consider this! Key-less lock for sure has its own market and we are really happy to hear that you like Wyze Lock Bolt design. For lockpicking concerns, we have invited a 3rd party lab to test our lock with professional lockpick tools and skills, and we did not encounter any blocking issues on that would be of concern with regards to lockpicking vulnerabilities.
Given your company’s recent unusual statements regarding “working with” law enforcement and its customers’ privacy, can you disclose what access this lock will give law enforcement to customers’ homes (or unequivocally promise that there will be no remote unlocking or other access given to law enforcement by Wyze)?

Wyze, in compliance with applicable law, will only provide user data to law enforcement in response to a valid subpoena, warrant or other similar official legal request. All codes and scans created by customers to operate the Wyze Palm Lock are stored only on the device itself and cannot be accessed in any way by Wyze.
How much variation/change is acceptable to have a successful palm scan? Say you cut your hand and there is a scar, dirt, etc..?
Palm Scan technology works by reading the veins underneath the skin. It won’t be affected by scars on your skin or any other surface conditions. That is actually one great advantage in comparison with fingerprint technology. However, if dirt, paint, or gloves block the reader from being able to scan the palm, it will fail.
Will there be support to unlock with Apple Watch?
Unfortunately, no. We understand that interest for supporting for Apple products is becoming more and more popular with our fans, and we are exploring the possibilities being able to help make that happen with our future products. Thanks!
Where is this lock manufactured?
Lock is currently manufactured in China. We are exploring options to move to other countries for manufacturing.
Is the lock cylinder able to be rekeyed?
Yes. We do recommend users to hire professional locksmith to do that.
Although the USB-C port is on the bottom, is there concern that water can find its way inside and what considerations were made when designing it to prevent water ingress?
This is a good question. The USB-C port was specially designed to minimize water ingress, making it very difficult for rainwater to accumulate inside. Even if a small amount of residual water does enter, it will not affect the emergency power-up function or compromise the motherboard, as the lock’s internal design and protections ensure normal operation.
Is the Palm Lock considered the official replacement for the original Wyze Lock that requires that gateway?
