Wyze has disabled audio recording from SD card on FLOODLIGHT cam v3

Unfortunately, it did not work.

Are you doing this on an iPhone - and particularly an iPhone that has iOS 16? The reason I ask is that Apple changed something with iOS 16 that broke audio on the Wyze app. I am primarily in the Android camp, so I don’t have a lot of details, but I remember here on the forum that as soon as people went to iOS 16, they lost audio on Wyze recordings.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy phone.

Another thing I am noticing, my second floodlight does not display the siren icon. So, when my neighbors are on my property, I am unable to turn it on. One of Wyze biggest sales pitch was the use of their siren.

Oops, never mind, I forgot to turn on icon when I reset the floodlight yesterday.

Same issues here. Both Cams associated with the Floodlights do not record sound. Both V3s with same firmware as you. I have two Cam pans and each of those record sound no problem.

I believe the OP can just click the solution checkmark again to remove it.

Confirmed it to be a firmware issue I manually flashed the firmware from the December 2022 file but that did not work. I went all the way back to May 2022 and its working. If you’re interested

Hopefully it gets fixed soon. All this work just so I can record the coyote pack howling at night lmao.

Hope this helps.

Do you have a direct link for the exact firmware I need to correct my " no audio " issue with my camv3 floodlights?

https://download.wyzecam.com/firmware/v3/demo_wcv3_4.36.9.139.zip

Prior firmware versions for all Wyze Devices can be located for direct download on their Release Notes & Firmware page linked below.

All Firmware Version Numbers in Blue are hyperlinks to download the zipped firmware. This is limited to only devices that have an SD Card and Flash capability. Not all prior versions are available. If there is a version that is unavailable there, you can ask here in the forum if another user has saved it. Only Production Firmware is listed. Beta Firmware is not available for download or flash.

I mean can we get a firmware update to address this ? Seems silly that the app pushes firmware updates on you that would literally break a feature of the cameras (a very important feature).

It’s one of the biggest reasons I chose wyze over alot of other companies, I even chose to recently start paying for my cam og’s extra functions I was so happy but I recently had a dispute with a tenant and most of my videos are completely useless now as I have no audio.

Same exact problems as OP and TomPickles. There is live audio so the mic is working, there is even audio in event clips the 15-30 second motion even clips that is. But when it comes to playing anything back from the SD card it’s a no go.

Not from the app itself, not from saved videos to my phone, not even VLC Player that everyone suggests comes back with any audio. It’s like it’s literally just not saving audio to the SD Card.

I’m sure going back a full year firmware wise is going to also disable other new features… this is a workaround but quite a ridiculous one. I really hope you guys solve this for us iPhone users soon and yes I can confirm I’m also on an iPhone with iOS 16

Welcome to the Wyze User Community Forum @lcstormclan! :man_raising_hand:

While you replied to my post, please note that I do not work for Wyze. I am a Wyze iOT user like you. This forum is a user to user community with minimal Wyze Team interaction.

That is a question Wyze would have to answer. The issue would also need to be isolated either as a bug within the firmware for the specific cam affected or within the App software as it relates to that cam and which OS version is affected. Since both Firmware and App Software are in constant development, the best place to isolate the behavior is in the newest Beta or Production Release.

I mean we did isolate it already, all 3 of us have the exact same floodlights with cam v3 on them running the exact same firmware and have the exact same issue, there is no audio being recorded to the sd card. There is audio live (so the mic works) even the cloud video clips have audio. THE ONLY THING that doesn’t have audio is the playback function from the sd card or saved videos from the sd card recordings.

Even taking the saved videos to my pc and trying different media players also results in the same, no audio at all. So it’s not just the iOS versions we are using on our phone, besides the original poster is using an android galaxy so theres that. THE ONLY thing that has changed in the last few days for me is the firmware for the camera they just released not long ago.

Before that the audio on my sd card was working just fine, i have saved video clips from last week with audio on them. Sometimes im not home and my kids are playing and if i find something cute ill record a video from the playback feature from the sd card. My app version hasnt changed any my iOS version hasnt changed any. The only thing thats changed is the firmware which TomPickles has already said reverting back fixes.

I have been trying to revert back but for some fun reason I cannot get my cam to enter the flash firmware mode. Ive tried the instructions to the T and my camera just goes straight to ready to connect when i hold the setup button and boot the camera back up. Eventually if you hold the setup button long enough it will factory reset all my settings in the cam but doesnt revert the firmware for some reason which is dumb so its not a true factory reset.

I have tried formatting the sd card with fat32 and it is a 32gb sd card wyze brand (even tried a sandisk 32gb) and adding the bin file, renaming it to have .bin at the end so it reads demo_wcv3.bin. I formatted it with windows and with the program sd format that reddit users all suggest, both quick format and full format both ive tried. Then adding the file and renaming it again in the root of the sd card of course. Then you turn the cam off insert the sd card with the bin file and hold setup while also powering the cam up. After 3-6 seconds im suppose to get a purple light on v3 cams (both red and blue lights go solid making it look purple) but that never happens. The camera just goes to the setup and says ready to connect if i keep holding, and after that “factory resets” the camera deleting all my cameras settings but not changing the firmware one bit. Idk what im doing wrong there but this is most positively a firmware problem.

Unfortunately, I cannot duplicate the issue as all my V3 cams are currently running Beta Firmware.

Since the issue seems to be isolated to V3 Cams with the Floodlight accessory on FW 4.36.10.4054, have you tried removing the floodlight accessory from the cam and running it as a standalone V3 to see if it persists and then adding the floodlight back to it and testing?

Prior to attempting to flash the firmware from the blank 32GB SD Card, did you perform a Factory Reset with no SD Card in the cam before unplugging it to do the flash?

I figured out the flash thing it was because I was renaming the bin file .bin at the end but that was ending up as .bin.bin because of windows 11 already including the extension but not showing it unless you have the filter setting on to show extensions lol something silly i wasnt thinking of but I made my own topic and another gentlemen helped me.

To further my point its the firmware though, I did exactly what tompickles did and reverted back to Decembers firmware and it was still an issue, so I went back again to the next available download in the link you guys provided which was all the way back to may of last year and guess what ? My SD Card recordings have audio again. This is 120% a firmware issue just like tompickles said.

Also I don’t know if you have a floodlight and cam combo but their separate firmwares. The floodlight actually has its own firmware you can actually remove the cam v3 from the floodlight it isn’t hard mounted or wired into it. It’s the same cam as your v3’s it isn’t any different. I suggest you stay on your beta firmware lol the new firmware is breaking sd card audio recordings and im sure there will be more people with the same issue as they realize it to.

Since I am on the Beta Firmware and the SD recordings have audio within the Beta Firmware, which is beyond the releases you were on, I will conclude that the issue is already fixed then and is awaiting final production release.

I don’t believe you lcstormclan. You have not provided one proof of evidence that your troubleshooting has solved the problem. On another thread, i uploaded proof that the May 2022 firmware did not correct this problem. So, please stop spreading misinformation.

Both of us have reverted back to May 2022 release and confirmed it’s working. I am not sure what you believe or don’t believe. I don’t think he or I have a reason to lie. Actually we are undercover waze employees…thats it. Lol You can choose to believe us or not.

So here is my firmware version, and a 30 second clip of my dogs barking at the mail man from inside my house. Can clearly see the time stamp and date in the corner. It isn’t perfect there is even some loud static noise at some point but I can clear as day hear the cars and my dogs and even wind in my environment now from the sd card playback and recordings. Only thing that changed was firmware.

Not sure why you think me and Tom are both lying to you, I’m sorry your issue isn’t resolved maybe it’s something else like your SD card or the camera itself not sure. I honestly now question whether you actually tried going back to mays firmware at all or are just trying to get a replacement lol. If so wrong place. Anyway have a nice day lol.
