Wyze duo doorbell not recording continous on sd card

Hello, anyone know about this problem? My Duo Doorbell is hardwired; it just worked well for two days, then drained the battery even when plugged in. I had to unmount it, charge it with a regular charger, then update the firmware. After hardwiring it again and turning on continuous recording, I tried three SD cards, but it only records events, not all the time. Can anyone help?

Welcome to the Forum, @elfigurita!

I know that some microSD recording problems have been recorded with Duo Cam Doorbell, and a recent firmware update was supposed to resolve some of those. If you could share a screenshot of Settings ➜ Advanced Settings (or wherever you select either Continuous or Events Only in Duo Cam Doorbell), then that might be a good place to start.

Thanks for posting that. It looks correct, but I wonder if a setting is “stuck” incorrectly. I think this is how I’d proceed:

  1. Verify that you have the latest firmware for your Duo Cam Doorbell.
  2. Toggle the microSD card recording settings to Events Only for a few moments (maybe even back out of that screen and then return to it) and then toggle it to Continuous to see if that actually “takes”.

If that doesn’t resolve it, then I’d consider a profile refresh from Wyze’s servers just in case something in the local copy got corrupted at some point.

This is how I would get a clean copy of my account profile/settings on Android (click/tap to expand):
  1. Clear the in-app cache: From the Wyze app’s home screen, navigate to Account ➜ App Settings ➜ Cache File Size ➜ Clear.
  2. Navigate back one screen to Account and tap Log Out at the bottom.
  3. Swipe the Wyze app out of the running Android apps.
  4. Long-press on the Wyze app’s launcher icon (on the phone’s home screen or wherever you tap to initially open the app) and then tap App info in the pop-up menu.
  5. Tap Force stop on the App info screen (may need to tap OK to confirm) and then tap Storage & cache.
  6. Tap Clear cache and Clear storage on the Storage screen.
  7. Back up one screen (back to App info) and then tap Open and proceed to log back into your Wyze account/app. (Optionally reboot the phone at this step for good measure and then launch the Wyze app after the fresh boot instead of relaunching it immediately from this screen.)

Note: I don’t know what the options would be for modifying these steps on iOS since I don’t use that platform.

The other thing I really wonder about is your power availability at the mounting location, so I wonder about things like this:

  1. What’s the output rating for your transformer?
  2. What’s the measured voltage where you wired the doorbell?
  3. If your home has an existing built-in chime, then did you wire it in a way that you’re trying to use your home’s built-in chime, or did you bypass that?

Some users have reported problems with quicker-than-expected battery drain even when Duo Cam Doorbell is wired to a home’s low-voltage AC, so I also wonder if it’s just not getting enough reliable power and if it’s reverting to Events Only because the doorbel isn’t sensing continuous AC. I’m speculating about that, though, because I don’t have any hands-on experience with this particular doorbell model.
