Oh, sure thing! This is what I do for a work-around:

That’s what I’ve used for a while with good results to get a Video Doorbell v2 button press to initiate (via a Wyze Plug intermediary) announcements on my Google Home smart speakers. Since setting that up, I’ve also played with it some over time to get it to do things like stream the camera to an additional Google TV and a Chromecast. That just involves adding additional Actions to the relevant Google Home Routine.

Awesome, thank you so much. Moving into new home soon and want the new doorbell but always wanted a way it announces, and not have chime since the dog will go crazy.

You’re welcome. Like I’ve said before, I don’t have a Duo Cam Doorbell to play with, so I’m making assumptions that the same kind of doorbell button press can work to initiate Automations (the same way it does with Video Doorbell v2). I hope all goes well with the move!

I reached out because of a related issue with my Duo. Mine came with the Wi-Fi chime, but it didn’t include the Chime Controller needed to use it with my existing mechanical chime. I was told that the Chime Controller is sold separately. Can you confirm whether it is actually sold separately or not?

That’s also my understanding. At one point in the past, it became available as a separate accessory via the app’s shopping tab, and then more recently it also became available via Wyze’s Web Shop. What you were told jibes with the Help Center article I linked above (where I also included a link to the Chime Controller’s product page).

You’re the best. Thank you for responding to @matosw. Yes, Duo Cam Doorbell is either sold by itself or with a Wi-Fi Chime. It never was sold with a Chime Controller, but it is compatible with it. Some people prefer the controller as a setup because they need their doorbell to work with their existing mechanical chime.

Could you send me the wiring diagram? I attempted to install the chime controller but still not working. After pressing the button, the chime sounds once, “the ding” and not the “dong” and it starts making a “clicking” sound for several seconds. I install the black from the controller to the wire that went to the front of the chime “F”, the Red from the controller to the “T” transformer in front of the chime along with the Red coming from the door bell. the white to the “F” front. The white from the door bell connected to the white wire coming from the transformer.

What kind of chime do you have? If you can share a photo of your chime that shows the terminals and wiring, I’ll be happy to try to help out.

Did you look at the Chime Controller wiring instructions for Video Doorbell v2, which is the product that originally shipped the Chime Controller? If you want to try that, then I’d start by following that guide. If that doesn’t work, then you can try the alternate wiring instructions, but going that route can produce some undesired results (extraneous buzz/hum/rattle from a mechanical chime).

Okay, so if the chime was wired correctly—the red wire from the transformer was connected to the TRANS terminal and the red wire from the doorbell was connected to the FRONT terminal—then it seems like you’ve connected the Chime Controller correctly according to the standard installation instructions. :+1:

In that case, I’d be looking at app settings. Since I don’t have Duo Cam Doorbell, I wonder if your settings options are the same (or similar enough) as they are for Video Doorbell v2. Do you have an option like  Settings ➜ Chime ➜ Doorbell Chime Type or something similar? For Video Doorbell v2, I can change Doorbell Chime Type to Digital or Mechanical, so I’ve chosen the latter. If you don’t see an option like that, then from the main Settings screen I’d do a Restart and then look again. The solution may be as easy as choosing the right option in Settings, and that may take some trial and error. You might consult the Video Doorbell v2 Troubleshooting article about chime problems for more detail, because there doesn’t seem to be an analogous article in the Duo Cam Doorbell Troubleshooting section of the Help Center.

:information: Note that one of the steps in the Video Doorbell v2 Troubleshooting article suggests the alternate wiring instructions that I linked above, but I would personally hold off trying that until I got to the point where I thought I’d need a different transformer (i.e., I’d try other steps first, including testing the wiring to the FRONT and TRANS terminals [see below], then try the alternate wiring instructions, and then I’d consider a transformer upgrade as a final step).

If that doesn’t get the result you want, then I’d still wonder about the red FRONT and TRANS wires being switched before you started, so I’d probably use the multimeter to test like I described in the other topic. At least then you can reassure yourself that the chime box is wired correctly. (You might want to do this first, anyway.)

If that’s all correct but you’re still having performance issues, then this is when I’d consider a transformer replacement, since your 16 V AC / 10 VA transformer is on the low end of power output for what Wyze recommends.

I hope that this all makes sense and helps in some way! Feel free to respond here or in the other topic if you have follow-up questions, and please do let us know if you get this working the way you expect (and what ends up being the solution)!

I have the original Wyze Doorbell with the Chime wiring to bypass the Chime and Ring on the Wifi Chime.

If I upgrade to the Wyze Duo, can I leave the existing Chime Wiring bypass and not expect any new phantom rings, etc? Also if I have the Wyze Duo can I use my Wyze Cam OG as the new Chime if I purchase the WyzeDuo that does not come with Wifi Chime or Chime controller?

Interesting questions. First, the original doorbell v1 bypass wires for the chimebox were either resistors or fuses and assisted in powering the doorbell thru the transformer while cutting off the chime actuators. With the doorbell duo, you want a connection that is going to charge the battery from the transformer if it has the necessary voltage. A must if doing front and rear doorbells. Transformer upgrade may be necessary The duo comes with a bypass wire. You may have to disconnect the v1 resistors (could interfere or maybe even damage the battery) and use the duo’s bypass wire for continuity of power to the battery thru the transformer. Or you will be pulling the battery every few weeks to manually charge it. Ideally, you want connections to charge the battery in the doorbell since it is required to function. A multimeter comes in handy to determine if your connections are achieving this.

Second, the cam og can be used as a chime with the duo.

Hope this helps even if not providing 100% answers. I believe other forum users will post additional feedback to assist you.

I agree with @fmills1d and am chiming (pun intended) in just to link to Wyze’s own documentation. I believe both answers are “yes”.

Regarding the first question, the “Wired Installation” section of the relevant Help Center article actually uses the installation video from Video Doorbell v1 as a guide for bypassing the chime, so I imagine you could leave the existing fuse/jump wire in place and expect a good result, but changing that out with a new part also gives you the opportunity to inspect the installation, do any necessary cleaning, and test your system and connections. I totally agree with the usefulness of having a multimeter on hand before and during these installations.

Regarding the second question:

Wyze Cam OG…can be used as a chime for your Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell!
