Hey, thanks for reaching out! I didn’t expect to hear directly from someone at Wyze, especially not a founder!
I have not personally experienced the issue with my Video Doorbell v2’s connection, and I do have it set for continuous recording to microSD. For what it’s worth, I also still have my Doorbell on the 4.51.1.8444 firmware version from January because of the reported issues with notifications in later firmware versions, but I don’t know if that’s germane to this issue.
I still suspect that @effreyj’s issue may be related to power, but that’s really just a guess, because he’s provided no further update since his original post.
Yeah, I mentioned that because, although I don’t expect an update that delivers enhancements to cause other problems, I’m aware that sometimes these things do have unintended consequences, and I wanted to be clear about my experience.
Thank you for taking the time to chime in with an update!
I used to have the disconnecting problem with the Doorbell V2. It went away with maybe the 4.51.1.8444 (January 24, 2024) or 4.51.1.9341 (April 8, 2024) update. The disconnecting problem returned with the 4.51.1.9807 (May 13, 2024) update.
I have more devices in my home requesting WiFi than I have addresses. This is why I suspect that my WiFi sheds the doorbell. As soon as I cycle power with the doorbell, it will immediately reconnect to the WiFi.
I’m having the issue and I DO have an SD card. Wyze sent me a replacement doorbell and I installed it yesterday. It didn’t even last 24 hours before it went off line. Is there an issue with the SD card reader that’s causing it to go offline??? I have a 128 gb card in there.
I know for a fact it’s not the WiFi because I had to install a backup camera on my porch because the doorbell kept going off line. I also have a Wyze camera in my detached garage that’s across the property. Both of those cameras have zero issues. It has to be the DB2 firmware as this only started happening a month ago. Prior to that my original camera was fine for 4 months.
Update: I see that Wyze has a new firmware update as of 29 July however my doorbell shows that it’s up to date with the 14 July update and will not take the 29 July update. Thank you
Are you even seeing it available in the app? When I navigate to Settings ➜ Device Info ➜ Firmware Version, the app is just showing me the ability to update from 4.51.1.8444 to 4.51.2.0379, as I mentioned in another topic, even though the announcement topic and the Release Notes & Firmware page indicate that 4.51.2.0578 should be available. I wonder if there was a problem posting the update, because I haven’t yet read any reports of anyone’s experience with this latest firmware.
The 4.51.2.0578 firmware is running on my Doorbell V2. It still doesn’t reconnect automatically, but at least it only requires me to power cycle it once or twice a day instead of several times a day.
Overall, it’s a bit better, but I wouldn’t say it fixed the disconnection problem.
@doktorinferno - Have you tried an automation/rule or 2 to “Restart” the doorbell during times when it is connected? Just a thought if you have already or not.
Out of curiosity, how are you restarting the power?
Breaker multiple times a day or is there a trick I need to know about?
Doing it at the breaker was way too much of a pain because of the other devices on the breaker. I ended up adding a switch between the line and the transformer a few years ago so I could just flip the switch if I ever needed to do anything to the doorbell (previously had a Ring)
Now, with all the issues I’ve had over the past 2 months, I’m ready to put a Wi-Fi switch so I can restart remotely. (I’m still hopeful that the issue will get resolved. I really don’t want to go back to Ring)
@jwr.618 - I’m running the same vdb.v2 firmware with app version 3.0.5 (558) with an automation for daily 9 a.m. restart. No offline issues for me with my own gateway with a connected mesh wifi. The gateway has not been set to bridge and my system runs very smoothly. I don’t know what to recommend to you other than a complete deletion , reset and reinstallation. Excuse me if you have already gone this route as I don’t recall following your complete conversation. Do you have your own gateway/modem or ISP issued device? How far away is the vdb2 from the wifi source? Possible obstructions with signal.
