Just recently began to have the problem with not being able to view playback on my Wyze doorbell. Have had it for about a year, and it has worked fine until about 2 weeks ago. Now, when I try to view playback, it will show a picture for just a split second then the screen will go black with a spinning wheel that just keeps on spinning. My phone is an LG Rebel4.
Have submitted 2 “logs” and had 2 chat sessions, but no help. Have uninstalled/reinstalled the app on my phone. Have deleted the camera and did a new setup. Have deleted the camera from the CamPlus and added it back 2 times. Nothing helps.
I have the same issue. had it on my old Moto G phone and switched to a newer one and everything worked fine until about a month ago.
I know on the older phone is was determined to be a compatibility issue with some of the Moto G phones.
It is irritating. You can click the export button and view on an external player like VLC.
Same. Didn’t work on my Nokia PureView 9. Then it worked. Then it didn’t. I got a OnePlus N20, and it could play Video Doorbell videos from day one. A few weeks ago, it stopped working, and Wyze does not care.
I no longer bother to report these issues (or any others, to be honest) since this has been going on for years, and Wyze only closed my tickets without fixing anything.
I am having this issue now too. The doorbell camera worked perfectly for over a year and suddenly a couple of weeks ago won’t play events on my phone. It works fine on my husband’s phone. I have tried everything suggested to fix it but no luck. I can download the video and play it but don’t want to have to do that for every video I want to watch and then have to delete it too. I am a bit discouraged after reading all this and realizing this issue has been ongoing for over 2 years and Wyze hasn’t fixed it yet.
Hope I don’t regret doing this, but I purchased one of the new Wyze OG cameras to put up over the front porch near the doorbell so hopefully I can capture and re-play video. My plan is to remove tge doorbell from CamPlus and add the new camera; hope that works. If not, I will be looking at another brand of camera.
I have recommended Wyze cameras to several of my friends & neighbors, but will not do that again.
In all fairness this isn’t something on the Wyze end of things that needs to be fixed.
THE Problem is the default video player in some phones cannot play the 90° rotated video the doorbell creates. The reason downloading and playing in a different video player works is the different video player is not missing that functionality. Especially if it’s VLC which has pretty much everything.
In other words it’s the phones default player causing the problem NOT the Wyze doorbell.
That said it would be nice if Wyze created the option to NOT rotate the video BUT yeah the problem is your default video player. You can change it in your phone but it’s not an easy fix for every phone YMMV.
I wish that were true, but many (if not most) of the reports here (including mine) state that the Wyze Android app was able to play event videos from the Video Doorbell, and then it stopped working. I have had this happen on two phones now. Personally, I have not had a phone that was never able to play event videos from the Video Doorbell. IMO, this means the problem is the Wyze app. Plus, I’m sure if the issue were not the Wyze app, Wyze would be the first to say so.
It worked with my phone for a year before I started having a problem; same phone.
That’s not uncommon, Wyze updates there app and camera bios while phone manufacturers update their apps and android versions. Some combinations are more stable than others and some combinations will throw out different effects.
I’m not saying that Wyze is unable to produce a final solution of their own I’m just trying to point out that it’s not as simple as saying it doesn’t work on phone X but it did on phone Y and now doesn’t therefore Wyze is to blame.
In all honesty I Do NOT know what the particular issue is BUT if you take a phone like my Moto G which had the problem originally, root it and set the default video player as VLC the problem goes away.
It could still be some coding issue in the Wyze app but I would bet it’s some non-standard tweak made by a phone manufacturer because that’s something they do a lot.
I would love it if someone from Wyze would just say “XYZ is the problem” and they are still looking at potential solutions is a given. That said it’s not easy coding for ALL compatible devices and when manufacturers mkae proprietary tweaks it can be impossible. So I could be wrong but I’m not blaming Wyze for this one.
I apologize if my message was not clear. I did not say (and I do not believe others have said, but I do not want to put words in their mouths) that it does not work on phone X but it does on phone Y. I said that it worked on phone X and, after an update to the Wyze Android app, it stopped working on the same phone X. (That phone was a Nokia PureView 9.) I also said that it worked on my OnePlus N20 and then it stopped working on the same N20 phone.
It is the Wyze Android app that stopped working. (The only Android updates were security-related, and they did not break VLC.) Clearly, Wyze could fix the regression in their app so that it could play those videos, too, but Wyze does not want to bother.
if you take a phone like my Moto G which had the problem originally, root it and set the default video player as VLC the problem goes away.
That is because you are no longer using the Wyze app’s video player; you are using VLC.
To my knowledge the Wyze app Does NOT include a video player, it simply uses the default player for your phone or tablet then throws a control overlay over it.
It would be nice if Wyze could tell us what it is doing BUT using the default with an overlay is standard practice.
I honestly believe it the app version. I am currently on 2.41 on my A23 but on my s10e the version on there is 2.38 and the app works perfectly. I believe when they updated it, it caused an issue. I am not using the beta version.
Same issue for me. When I updated to 2.41 I started receiving the error message. Tried WYZE chat support and they had no idea how, if, or when the issue was going to be fixed.
UPDATE: Uninstalled 2.41 and installed 2.40 and now the error message is gone.
How did you install 2.40?
First uninstalled 2.41, then downloaded the 2.40.0.190 APK package from APKMirror.com to my phone and installed it.
Prior to loading the old version I contacted WYZE through their chat support, but they admitted they have no idea how to fix the Code 09 error in Version 2.41. The only advice they gave was to wait for another program update and hope that the new version fixes the problem. A good reason not to not let Android auto update programs.
User2022 is a bit more technically savvy and yes those steps worked for him BUT for those who haven’t done this before the process is known as “Side Loading” and really is simple but requires a some basic things AND a little caution when choosing an APK source. In general I recommend following the XDA instructions … How to sideload and install apps on Android as APKs or App Bundles
This VLC fix does not work on Android OS version 14. I spent 1-2 hours on the phone with overseas level one support and they had me useless. I submitted error code 9 via - screen shot to level 2-3 support. I have 2 Wyze hard wired OG cams that work flawless with the newest App and firmware. I also have a Ring doorbell with no issues. I rebooted phone, reset services and reformatted my micro SD card. I think the issue is a permission problem not being able to sync video to the cloud, even though I am using an SD card. I am going to return this POS camera on Amazon and try a better brand doorbell camera. I also have a MyQ garage door camera that works fine but does not come with an SD slot. Update I fired up my old Moto Pure G running Android version 8 and no error messages. My issue seems to be tired to Android 14.
