Wyze Cam v4 Ideas

Really strange thread merge here. Not sure if it was a mod mistake or what. 2023 content spliced into 2019.

Discourse doesn’t provide merge in chronological order, only flat merge to end of topic. And no means to manually reorder a topic’s posts.

Okay, thanks. The result is pretty messy though. :frowning:

V3 Pro Power Entry Re-Design to prevent water intrusion

I love all the features and resolution of the V3 Pro camera… the only physical problem I have is the power entry of the new camera is unlike the V3 standard and has.

I’ve already had one camera fail due to water damage through this poor design. Others appear to as well V3 Pro - water intrusion - #10 by jdawson.nf

This is an excellent camera, I just don’t think the ones I bought are going to last long-term because of this fatal design flaw.

I had this same problem… In my case the camera is mounted right-size up, and I have a drip loop with the power cable before entry… However, I think since this version of the camera does not have the separated power cable / pigtail off the back with additional rubberized protection for the Micro USB connection, water came in that way. Camera repeated ready to connect, I paired it, it might stay active for an hour or so and died. I brought it indoors and put it in a sealed container with rice for a week, and put it over a furnace grate so it would get some warm air, that did not help.

Wyze did replace it under warranty, but I think there’s a fatal flaw with the power delivery of this camera compared to the other outdoor rated models… I would suggest a redesign on the power cable entry. Eventually the warranty of the unit will expire and Wyze won’t replace it… Please improve the design of power entry to the V3 Pro.

Sealing it off almost certainly made it worse; moisture had nowhere to go…

Wow. I forgot about this old zombie post. It dies but keeps coming to life. Odd that long ago this thread was labeled “v4” before we had a v3.

Prophetic?

Naw, not prophetic…Yes, this post was created before we had the V3’s in hand, but it was after the announcement of the V3 and descriptions of everything the V3 included. The V3 was announced 10/27/2020 and this thread was created in response to that 5 days later with suggestions for what to add for future versions after that. So I wouldn’t call it prophetic as much as people wanting more stuff added to a future version.

Thanks for the correction. November 2020 seems so long ago.

Sure it is… They make solar panels for it

Correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like on the Wyze site they are calling the Wyze Cam OG & OG Telephoto the Wyze Cam V4.

No. In fact, in the AMA event they held for the OG cams, Wyze Cofounder, Dongsheng, discussed a possible V4 coming out in the future. Here is the context:

I totally agree with you on the OG. Could be a mis-informed Wyze marketing webmaster that put v4 on this link.

Can you take a screenshot of it for me? When I go to that link on my Laptop and run a search for “v4” it tells me there is nothing saying v4 anywhere on the page. I’d like to report it to Wyze, but I can’t find it.

Look at the upper left square. Viewing this page on an iPad Pro Safari browser.

Interesting. For me it just says “OG Bundle”. Tried it on an iPhone with Safari too. I agree it sounds like an overaggressive marketer issue.

I also note with disdain that Wyze has joined the “throw up an auto play video popup on every page” club now. :frowning:

I took the screenshot on an iPad Pro using Safari and not logged in on the Wyze site. Using Firefox Private Browsing I see just OG Bundle. I just discovered using Firefox with Private Browsing off I see the v4 screenshot above.

Excellent list. I’m not skilled in these cams, so my comments may not be artful. At least five additions/commets:

• Ship within one week
• Have option of separate power adapter (transformer and cord included inn purchase) OR POE.
• Night vision at least as good as the WyzeCam V3
• Retain two way audio
•.Have >10 second capture prior to motion activated clip

Camera system with on base/on cam AI, no sub required. (Make things right).

Hey all,

I’ve been a Wyze customer for a very long time. That being said, I do remember the days when Wyze was scrappy and all about undercutting the competition. You brought features to Wifi cameras that cost $20-30 that competitors were selling for hundreds more, with a subscription. You were and perhaps still are, disruptive. But somewhere, something changed. Suddenly you said, well, it’s too expensive to put AI into the camera, so we’re putting it into the cloud. This way, we can give you more advanced features for cheaper. To be frank, it felt very bait and switch, but I went along with that change because I got it. Instead of loading the camera with hardware and “AI”, it was/is cheaper to do it all in the cloud and so, you moved to put most of, if not all of your proverbial “chickens into a cloud basket”. But now, things are changing. There’s competition out there proving that you can put advanced features on the camera or a “base” and while the system is more expensive ‘upfront’, the savings add up with/over time. Right now, I have a 3 camera plan with Wyze, I’m paying $35 yearly on a ‘special’ that I’m not sure will be in place at the time of renewal. My protection plan shot up to $60 yearly (which isn’t terrible, as it gives me an additional camera sub) but I’m paying Wyze $100 in subs for 4 cameras.

I’m not necessarily asking you to change your ways. I’m asking you to maybe, consider an alternative operating route, a fork, you may say, in your business plan. I love Wyze. I will always at least have 1 sub going with you! But with the competition, I own 4 (4k) solar powered wifi cameras (wired power for ~500, solar power for ~800) and get all the AI (Facial recognition, Human detection, Vehicle detection, Pet detection, and more with firmware updates) with the system. It also allows me to pop an SSD into the base for several TB of storage if necessary. I also own another little system where the base uses a Micro SD and it comes with 2 battery cams that do motion and human detection ($50, different brand).

I’m asking you to look into something similar. If other companies are doing it, surely you can. A camera system with a base station like your wireless system, but with everything loaded into the camera or a base station…at perhaps a more premium price point, for those of us who don’t wish to deal with subs all over the place. I envision it in a similar fashion as your “Pro” products…Mesh Pro, Cam V3 Pro (except, w/o sub). Let’s get Wyze back into being scrappy and disruptive again.
