Add a second camera. The cameras are so wide angle now that it’s hard to get detail very far from the camera. Making the camera even more wide angle will only make that worse.
Price point minimum 200usd make it premium. HDR and 30fps and possibly rainproof as the v3 was. I’ve purchased all v3 and v3 pro i own quadruple the price or more when they were out of stock everywhere. I don’t think wyze want cheap buyers that whine and clog the support ticket system as soon they feel they lost 3$ of service or quality. I’ll buy your premium cameras even if they were a thousand. You easily have the best cameras and product designers out there please stop the cheapiness
They’re unlikely to ever do a flagship camera (V4, V5, etc) as a premium like you described above. They are much more likely to make a “pro line” to do this kind of thing. They said last year that they were probably going to have at least 3 options for each category of camera now:
- Entry Level
- Mid-range
- Pro line
I suspect their flagship will generally be Entry Level or Mid-range since it will be the most popular and the reason people come to Wyze (affordable smart home stuff). The more expensive stuff will probably stick in the pro line.
I think the main thing they need to fix in the pro line is the compression and bitrate though. If they increase resolution and FPS but still have crazy compression and low bit rates, it won’t make a huge difference in the quality. The problem with doing this though is similar to what you said here:
Lowering compression, Increasing resolution, Bitrate, FPS, etc all will clog up the support ticket system with people who have crappy internet bandwidth and crappy routers, and tons of signal interference. They will blame Wyze for having a device that keeps failing to upload events, doesn’t livestream well, keeps disconnecting, etc. They’ll all go rate it 1 star and say Wyze sucks because their camera from some other company works fine even though they have no understanding of why it is working differently and the problem is actually THEM, or rather their environmental factors not be conducive to the real topic at hand.
I think those are the main challenges with making a premium camera. You can’t really do it without doing things that are going to cause a bunch of people to have a really bad experience and having that negatively impact the rest of your business. It is a huge risk. So I think the best solution is to build a separate premium pro camera that will automatically downscale to lower resolution, bitrate, FPS, compression if someone has bad internet. Then those of us with good connections can get the premium stuff we want, while the people who don’t understand technology aren’t having as horrible of an experience from all the added stuff they can’t support. But my guess is that this is an extremely low priority niche option for Wyze. But we’ll see. I’m totally in support of more awesome premium cameras!
