I was about to start taking down a bunch of these because Wyze doesn’t seem interested in resolving the bugs that are critical to my smart home automation needs. I will run this firmware before that to see if I notice any differences.

for anyone caring about the context of the 'Bugs' I'm talking about with these

…they actually work pretty well in the Wyze app…my issue with them is that the “Person Detection” triggers for this camera in Alexa are non-functional. I’ve been reporting this for months. I need that function to work in Alexa so I can do fancy advanced smart home routines in Home Assistant…but since nobody will fix the V3Pros to work with Person Detection triggers in Alexa like most of the other Wyze Cams work, I will have to replace them with other models like V2s and V4’s which DO have person detection triggers working in Alexa.

Automations I need Alexa person triggers for:
[TRIGGER] Person detected
[ACTION] Alexa presses a virtual “Button” (like a doorbell button) which Home Assistant sees,

and then Home assistant uses that person detected button press to do fancy advanced routines like automatically turn on lights in a room, or turn them off if no person button has been pressed for X minutes. --I often link multiple cameras together as a group of sensors where if ANY of the cameras detect a person then do this action…OR if NONE of the cameras in a group have detected a person for 10+minutes, then assume we’re away from home or asleep or whatever and arm my security, turn off all lights, etc, things like that)

I can’t do my fancy person detection automations with V3Pros though because the trigger is broken and nobody at Wyze will fix the lousy bug :scream:

I’ll be shocked if this firmware fixes this issue though, because I don’t think it’s a firmware issue.

At first blush, that feels like this for Cam v4:

In that topic, I was able to reproduce the Alexa person detection routine issue for Cam v4, but I can create a new Alexa person detection routine for Cam OG and get that to work. One funky difference that I’m seeing between those is that the settings page for Cam v4 in the Alexa app has a Person Detection Announcements toggle and Cam OG has a Person Detection Notifications toggle. I don’t know if this feature/function difference has anything to do with the way Alexa routines behave now, but it’s one of the things I noticed while trying to test this. I don’t have any Cam v3 Pros to test.

Don’t be so quick to replace them with Cam v4s. You may want to take a look at that topic first, and note that the initial post in that one links to an older occurrence of what seems like the same issue.

I’m really not sure where to point the finger for this one. It feels like maybe Amazon made a change to Alexa that broke this and Wyze hasn’t done whatever they can to compensate for this change on their end (especially considering that this still seems to work for Cam OG), but I’m just guessing about that. :man_shrugging:

Thanks for sharing. That is absolutely horrendous news though. The infection is spreading. I warned Wyze about this issue August of 2025 when the first beta firmware caused the issue (I was wrong in my previous post about it probably not being caused by firmware…I checked my original report and remember now that it was beta firmware that broke this integration, which shows it must be on Wyze’s end). They pushed it to production anyway. Now apparently someone copied the same defective code to the V4’s. I can totally see this issue slowly infecting the other Linux based models too. Maybe the FreeRTOS models will be safe from the infection since they can’t get an exact copy of the code that seems to be breaking things.
