Hey everyone, wanted to see if anyone has found a workaround as I am once again having an issue with Alexa routines for only new routines. Back in December I had this issue that was described here: Alexa person detection routine broken as of 12/9/25 and the fix in this did fix all routines and they are working (thank you Coley you legend). I recently got an additional V4 camera and set it up, followed the exact steps I did back in December to fix the others and the routine will not trigger no matter what. The existing routines still work though that were already configured. Just to test I stupidly deleted one of the routines for an existing camera that was working (should have just disabled) and attempted to re-setup to narrow down if it was a camera issue and nope now that one doesn’t work either. Seems as though any new routine created will not be triggered by Wyze now, but existing ones work. I tried to unlink and re-link the Wyze skill, delete the camera and re-setup, but nothing will trigger it. I can see the camera in the Alexa app and even view the live feed there. Ironically, if i setup announcements to my Alexa, it does function and announce that a person was detected on the camera, but I only want it to trigger at night not for every single event. This is a huge reason I use Wyze since I use it as my burglar alarm overnight. Wondering if anyone has had this issue and if any workarounds were found? Thanks!
Have you tried the Routine choice of “Copy Actions to New Routine”, taken from copying one of your working routines? You know how? Go into the good routine, and up in the right corner select the 3-dots. When it opens, select “Copy Actions to New Routine”. The give it a different name, assign the trigger you want and save it. Then go back into the newly copied one, and make changes to use the new V4. See if this helps, but doesn’t solve the No-New-Routine works issue.
Tried that already. When i do the copy it blanks out the camera already selected on it so you have to choose the new camera while creating the routine and it does the same thing. Do you use Alexa routines with yours? Wondering if there is anyone that can try to make routine on their end and see if it does the same thing which shows its just a whole issue with the app. If you try it DO NOT delete your existing routine either make a new one and disable the old or if the old one is set a different time make a new one that is active at a time the existing one isn’t to test.
Is that a new routine you created? Like brand new? This is whats weird so see my driveway routine screenshot, that was back from December that still works and it looks like yours the way it says “When driveway detects a person” as opposed to my new routine for backview that says: “When Backview: Person Detected”. That is the only difference I can see on the routines. The problem is any new routine sets up the way backview does. So even the existing camera that i had a working routine for that i deleted is doing that. All the routines that work look like yours a my driveway one. I am on Android trying, thinking maybe its something with the app there?
The routine I posted is brand new, created today. Not sure if it may be my subscription to CamPlus Lite vs. CamPlus et al. I only have Lite which ONLY does person detection. Might be something like that.
Additional information per Google AI:
“When setting up an Alexa app routine with a Wyze Cam, “person detected” is the action your Echo device takes, while “detects a person” is the smart home trigger. [1]”
Does this new camera have Cam Plus or Cam Plus Lite. Though I must admit, I don’t know if Lite still works with a routine. We had to have Cam Plus to use it with a routine. Could be the language telling us we have to do that is not present any more.
I have cam unlimited since I have 9 cameras so I believe its equal to cam plus.
I tried earlier today and failed with a Cam v4. I was able to create the routine, but it didn’t work as expected. Two things I noticed while fiddling with this:
- When trying to select this Cam v4 for person detection (in the device’s Settings ➜ Camera Events settings ➜ Person Detection ➜ Cameras), I couldn’t Save this selection and would see a very brief “Something went wrong” message in red at the top of the screen when attempting to do so.
- When I looked at Camera Events Help (in the camera’s Settings ➜ Camera Events settings ➜ Camera Events Help), it says, “Currently, Camera Events works with Ring and Abode cameras.”

I do get person detection announcements from Echos because of the three Wyze cameras that show as already being selected—Duo Cam Doorbell × 1 and Solar Cam Pan × 2—but that’s because I’ve selected those announcements in the cameras’ settings and is not something I’m trying to do on a schedule with a routine.
I am using Cam Unlimited and am not using Alexa Plus.
Check your app for an update. You might need to go to the appstore and do it. Mine was doing that too until I updated the app. Didn’t fix the issue though. I also did notice that about the ring and Adobe cameras, but since our existing routines work youd think it still is supported.
I’m using Android only, and the Alexa app version shows 2.2.683672.0 with no update available in Google Play Store.
Then before you go to camera event settings page to see cameras enabled first go to devices in Alexa, then choose your camera. Hit the settings icon in the top right once you see your live feed and on that next page enable the Person Detection Announcements. Then go to the camera event settings page and you should either see it already enabled or be able to enable it now for that camera under person detection. I noticed that too until I updated the app, but youre on the same version as me so above steps should show it enabled. This didnt make a difference for the routine working for me though.
Yes, I can do that, but that enables the regular full-time person detection announcement from Echo that I experience with my other Wyze cameras that I mentioned above, and that’s not something that can be scheduled (I don’t think) like I believe you’re trying to accomplish with a routine, so that doesn’t really solve anything.
That’s my experience, as well, and what I’m saying that I’m confirming, as in my more detailed post above. I think Amazon probably hosed something with Alexa routines of this type.
@Crease, Are you using any Echo Shows? Notice when the screen times out? Try this. Double tap or Triple tap the screen. Often the screen just timed out and its still connected to that last camera. I have done this on my 1st gen Shows. Was shocked to see the camera is still connected - hours later.
No, I have none of those, and I’m struggling to see how that relates to this issue with routines.
Just wanted to follow up, for the heck of it I tried using an iOS device to see if it would make any difference and still doesnt function.
Just a thought…could be a camera version thing. The camera I tested is a V3…I don’t have anything after that since I want to use CamPlus Lite.
