Wyze Cam OG - Released 1/17/2023

They haven’t told us what the other 2 pack will include or not, but they did say somewhere that the stacking kit by itself would be $9.99. I suspect they will keep it separate from the 2-packs in order to keep the prices lower for those who don’t want them or won’t use them, and those of us who do want it can just add it in with our purchase. But I am just guessing. I suspect the main point of the 2-packs is just to give us a slight bundle discount…and if that’s the case I would’ve expected/hoped that it would include the stacking kit. People who don’t want the whole bundle can still just buy the cams separately…so it would make more sense to include it.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see when the other options come in. :man_shrugging:

If this OG product became popular, can Wyze server handle??

Will be curious how this OG now compares and sells vs the Cam V3.

Time will tell, but the V3 set a pretty high bar! Especially when it first launched. It is also still the only cam that can use accessories like the Floodlight, garage door opener, & lamp sockets. So it is definitely still has some life left in it with it’s advantages.

It would be nice for Wyze to release some kind of timeline comparison later…though it will be a little hard to do since the V3 started as a pre-order, and both of them had different stock levels to make people wait for more batches to be made, etc That might make it hard to get accurate short-term comparisons, but long term sales rate comparisons would be cool to see.

ohhh…you cannot use Rules with this new OG camera? You should create a blog on this

Not sure where you see this. You can definitely use Rules with the new OG cameras.

As Loki said, the OG has lots of rules:

8 Triggers that can set off the actions for any other device with rules.

And 13 possible Actions:

And they can be used in combination with ALL the other rules.

They just can’t control some of the accessories directly…some of the accessories require a V3 Pro to be wired directly to them in order for them to get access to the internet to be activated/function, but any accessories connected to a V3 can still be controlled by rules with any other device, including these. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding about what was meant by controlling the accessories.

I meant when you said about using the cam with various add on gear.

can someone just do a spec comparison chart between V3 and OG?

There are some good comparisons in this review by thenetguy:

You can also consult this chart:

But you have to basically zoom in, or download it and zoom in.

Interesting. So the V3 Pro has 2K and that’s it over the new OG. And why would you buy the Cam V3 now? Oh, but the V3 Pro and V3 stand is better, in my opinion.

Another reason might be that I think the OG has to use the paid Cam Plus subscription only and the V3 can use $0 Cam Plus Lite

Yeah I don’t understand how wireless fixes anything for “security” vs wired. When I had wireless Arlo c I could just knock the whole thing down and take it if I wanted.

Besides, if you’re this worried about a “security” camera, maybe you shouldn’t be considering a $20 camera.

Oh the new OG only works if you have the paid CamPlus sub? Interesting. I missed that somewhere. I did not see it in your chart either.

Thanks!

No, that is a misunderstanding. The OG will work totally fine without Cam Plus. It will still send notifications and show you a picture with the notification. It just works best if you have an SD card in it, then you can even link right over to watch all the events and videos. Honestly, with the new way Wyze has structured their playback layout, there really isn’t a big need for the 12-second cloud events anymore unless you want to share the camera with other accounts. If you’re just using the camera for yourself, then the cloud events are almost pointless because you can still have and see every event recorded for free on the SD card and link to those events and even see where they all start in the playback timeline (which you can’t do on the V3). It works great even without cam plus.

It works without Cam Plus, but of course has all the limitations. From what I understand, you can’t use Cam plus lite on any of the newer cameras past V3. OG, the new Pan, V3 Pro, only the full price subscriptions. Basically any camera since the ones that were sold with the promise of person detection that got taken away.

That is the main downside to me, is not having free person detection notifications with the newer cams. The cloud events themselves don’t really matter if we have an SD card though. I purposely leave some of the newer cams without cam plus and they work great. I still get notifications and can view events and everything. I just need AI detections on some cams.

That is correct, Cam Plus Lite will not work on any new products released after April 2022.

That probably explains it better than I did. I do similar and only use the paid Cam Plus on certain cameras that I need all the AI and person detection with no cooldown. I have a few others I use the lite version because I still want some form of person detection, mainly for event filtering but it’s less important on those cameras so I don’t need the full Cam Plus.

Thanks for all your replies. You did say: “Another reason might be that I think the OG has to use the paid Cam Plus subscription only …” So no biggie :-)))).
