Wyze app 3.1 Beta Test 8/15/2024

I am Android, and don’t have this yet, but…
Doesn’t tapping on the pic make the bars and controls go away like the older version?
The dark bars probably make the white letters and icons a bit easier to read against lighter scenes.

I was going to mention that.

It also happens on time-lapse videos with additional text.

Just updated to android 3.1.0 from the previous RC. Before this update, as noted by myself and other beta testers, if you put individual cameras in Favorites the results were terrible. As noted we discovered that if you put the cameras in a group and the group in Favorites the results were usable.

In the RC I noted that if the cameras were singular in favorites then the cameras would appear to be streaming (red light on) when the camera was on screen. The big problem I saw was the cameras red lights stayed on even when the camera was not on screen. I was able to select accounts, events, etc the red lights stayed on. The only way to turn off the red lights was to close the app.

When the cameras were in a group, and the group opened, things were different. As expected when the camera was on screen the red light came on. But as soon as the camera was off screen the red light turned to blue (1-2s). Scrolling between cameras was usable, typically taking 1-2s to load.

The latest beta, 3.1.0 changed this. Now it doesn’t matter if the cameras are singular or in a group. If a camera is on screen focus the red light comes on and stay on until you close the app. In my network that means 8 cameras have their red light on----until you close the app.

Bottom line. In my setup, using 3.1.0, singular cameras in favorites is unusable. If in a group it is marginal.

If this is by design then please say so.

Nice… this beta app version includes option to display integrated event timeline and event filtering on live stream when in landscape orientation for Cam v4 and BCP cams:

Several control icons have been enhanced so we can now actually see them. Like knowing where to tap to open a group (vs turn group on/off)… the icon now has more contrast. Thank you Wyze for listening to and taking action on our suggestions and complaints: :+1:

b535. Friendly Faces is broken. Either crashes the app or keeps showing “welcome to the new app”

Problem Description: App crashes when attempting to access Cam v4 Detection settings page

Platforms tested: Android tablets and cell phones
Device orientation tested: Both portrait and landscape
Android versions tested: 12, 14
Wyze app version: 3.1.0.b535 (current beta)
Cam v4 firmware version: 4.52.8.0648 (current beta)

Steps to recreate:

  1. Start fresh Android session
  2. Start Wyze app
  3. Select Cam v4 in either portrait or landscape orientation
  4. Wait for live stream
  5. Tap Settings icon
  6. Tap Detection Settings

Result: App crashes, total white page is displayed. At this point, sometimes session is locked until Android kills process and displays “WyzeBeta closed because this app has a bug.”, sometimes app returns to Wyze app Home.

Impact: Unable to view/adjust Cam v4 detection settings.

Severity: Critical

Log ID: 1543733 Log includes screenshot and session vid capture.

Notes:

  • Issue occurs regardless of Smart Detection enabled/disabled.
  • Issue occurs regardless of Hardware Decoder enabled/disabled.
  • Issue occurs regardless of selecting single v4 under Favorites, a v4 within a group under Favorites or either under Devices.
  • Issue appears to be restricted to v4 Detection Settings page. I.e., other v4-related pages are not impacted.
  • Briefly checked the following additional cam models and did not encounter issue; Cam v2, Cam v3, Cam v3 Pro, Cam Pan v2, Cam Pan v3, WCO v1, WCO v2, BCP.
  • Issue does not exist under current production Wyze app version 2.50.9.512 regardless of Android version.
  • Let me know if you need additional info or logs. I have Android 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 tablets and phones available for 3.1 testing. Not currently able to test this iteration under iOS/iPadOS (time/resource conflict).

For anyone who experienced connectivity issues on the 3.0 app, has 3.1 fixed or improved on those connectivity issues? This is for just IOS users that I am currently asking this.

Sorry didn’t realize I stumbled into a beta thread.

Good Catch. I can confirm going into the Detection Settings on a V4 Camera results in the Camera stream shutting down. In my case, it went back to my Favorites page as I loaded it from there

V4 Detection setting attempt goes back to the favorites page for me too after the “white flash of death” of my eyes. So far every time.

Anyone with a Cam v4 have 3.1.0(3) loaded for iOS that can check this? My Apple stuff is occupied with other non-3.1 tests that I really don’t want to interrupt.

Doing it now…

Detection Settings Page Loads without error on iOS Beta Wyze App. Seems to only be an issue with Android.

I amnow updating my iOS OS to 17.6.1 and will test again when done

FYI: Just tested with iOS 17.6.1 and Wyze iOS App Beta and the Detection Setting page is still working. So confirmed that there is no issue on iOS.
