And I think I see what you indicated earlier, like if you see the opossum ears as horse eyes, the opossum eyes as horse nares, etc., eh? ![]()

Iām waiting for her to meet with MFP ![]()
I wish I had the nerve or stomach to eat iguana since I have a free supply and a bag of charcoal.
Georgia Pig since 1953. (Always been in Florida)
With few exceptions, Iāll try most things If it is something people regularly eat somewhere in a culture.
When I lived all over Haiti for 2.5 years, I tried all the [weird to Americans] food I could find, like TĆŖte de Cabri (Goat Head Soup which included the brains) Chicken Feet, Bouillon which includes offal (organ meats), and Conch. I donāt think there were a lot of other foods theyād eat that many people would consider weird. Though I wonāt eat plain one of their hot Pimaās (Scotch Bonnet Peppers)ā¦while they have only been measured getting in the 400,000 heat units on the scoville scale (A little hotter than the hottest Habenero Chili, though nowhere near things like that crazy Pepper X at 2.69M SHU), that is too hot for me all by itself. One American down there ate a super hot one plain, and ended up having to be emergency airflighted back to the states to have his stomach pumped and get treated for health issues. I know there are cases of serious complicates like esophageal tears or heart problems caused by high levels of capsaicin, and I would rather avoid all that nonsenseā¦I was happy enough just having pieces of it mixed in with OTHER food sometimes. I donāt mind spicy when there is OTHER flavor, but when itās the only thing you can taste, then whatās the point besides the addictive dopamine release from the pain sensors?
Point is, Iād totally try some iguana made by someone who likes it and often eats it. Definitely wouldnāt ever be a voluntary āstapleā for me, but I enjoy random food.
Good for you. If you were standing next to me at the time of your attempt, I might try it. Supposedly, iguanas are covered in salmonella. Make sure it is clean and donāt eat one raw.
I like conch fritters or conch salad. I used to live in the Florida Keys. People from Key West are called conchs. My grandfather was born there in 1889.
Wildest thing I have tried, to me, was Jellyfish. It tastes like pasta. It also did not sting like they stung my mother at the beach.
I skipped at trying fried henās feet.
Never tried monkey or cat. Frogs yes.
Oh yeah, I would definitely need it to be cooked thoroughly. Iām not that big of a risk taker. Same way I eat pork. Pigs have tons of diseases and bad things in and on the pigs that can infect you, including the same issue of salmonella and E. coli, but I donāt stop eating pork because of what theyāre infected with when raw. I just make sure my pork is cooked properly and then itās fine. Iād definitely do the same thing with Iguana.
There are actually LOTS of foods that commonly have salmonella but are safe when cooked/prepared properly:
IDK, Iguanaās having salmonella doesnāt scare me anymore than knowing pork, beef, chicken, turkey, etc all often have it too. I wonāt avoid any of thoseā¦I certainly donāt eat them raw either. If salmonella is your concern, just think of it being like chicken or bacon and all you need to do is remember to cook it first. ![]()
The above applies to most food. It definitely needs to be prepared properly/safely.
Had to search my memory for the displaced term. It came, but not immediately.

Thatās that [ethnic slur] Irish family that moved in up the street, the OāPaques! (Iām allowed some self deprecation if itās part of my own background, right?)
I used to have a Compaq iPAQ, too. ![]()
It never happened. Nothing ever happened. Even while it was happening it wasnāt happening. It didnāt matter. It was of no interest. -Harold Pinter
