Had v3 cams for over 4 years now, one died recently, bought a Window Cam and I cannot get it successfully paired with the app. I’ve been troubleshooting here and there for HOURS over 3 weekends when I have time and now at the end of my rope. It should NOT be this difficult.
The app will find the camera, but the failure begins after entering wifi password (yes, I’m on 2.4ghz band) at the point of connecting with Wyze cloud since I cannot get past that first stage.
Hoping someone with a similar setup can help (Android Galaxy S25, Netgear Nighthawk RAX70 router) here’s some things I’ve done so far:
Uninstalled / reinstalled app
Disabled mobile data on device
Ensured Bluetooth is enabled
Restarted router
Disabled 5ghz broadcast on router
Attempted pairing using iPhone and iPad and failure occurs at same stage
If I can’t get this connected it’ll get returned plus I have canceled my 3 camera annual Cam plus subscription since my renewal is coming up in 2 days. I am not too confident that this will get resolved.
This issue is not the first time I’ve had technical problems (don’t get me started on the other three v3 cameras over the years that have either arrived doa or otherwise bricked after flashing firmware) and I’ve spent days in my lifetime troubleshooting with Wyze. So this is it, after four years.
Based on what you described in your post, I think you’re taking many of the right troubleshooting steps so far, and I’d be inclined to try two other things:
Temporarily take the Window Cam close to your Wi-Fi source during setup. Plug in the Cam in the same room as the router.
Set your wireless security on the router to WPA2 only. Some Wyze (and other IoT) devices struggle with some routers’ implementations of mixed-mode WPA2/WPA3 security, which I imagine you might be using, though I didn’t see an explicit mention of that.
What has Wyze Support said when you contacted them? They may want you to submit a log if you’re having persistent problems with connection/setup. If you’re consistently seeing an error message from the app when you attempt setup, then sharing a screenshot of the place where you get stuck might also be helpful.
As @Crease mentioned, WPA3 or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode setting in your router is definitely the problem. I had same issue when setup v4 and video doorbell v2 cameras, The setup hung after scanned the QR code. The cameras couldn’t connect to WiFi.
Thanks for replying, yes I’ve been attempting set up in the same room as my router, within 5 feet. Also, WPA2 only was already enabled.
Posting a screenshot of where it keeps failing. As I mentioned, that first stage of connecting to the cloud is where things get hung up and fails. This was not taken by me, but given this problem seems to be prevalent, there are multiple users who have uploaded a screenshot already. Leaving this for the sake of posterity, maybe it’ll help someone else down the road.
Again, thanks so much for helping. I think this is where I’m tapping out. I canceled my annual subscription on my remaining v3s and will probably return the window cam unless my roommate wants to take over.
All told this recent pairing problem, past issues with my v3 cams, plus the fact that my annual subscription went from $60 to $90 means my journey with Wyze has come to an end. I know Support is there to assist but I just do not wish to open a ticket. I’ve spent far too much time overall with tickets & troubleshooting and the pros no longer outweigh the cons for me.
if your other cams are connecting and working on your router, there has to be something wrong with the cam in the first place. get an RMA and get a replacement.
I use a nighthawk as well. only problems I have is the lose connection frequently, probably because I have several. but definately sounds like you got a bad one to me.
You’re welcome, and I’m sorry to read that you’re still struggling with this. I understand the frustration, and I don’t blame you at all for wanting to be done with it.
If your roommate wants to give this a shot, then perhaps trying to set it up using a different mobile device will have more success, but I’m only speculating about that based on prior experience with some stubborn IoT devices (including Wyze) that haven’t wanted to connect to my Wi-Fi unless I tried a different phone. Those experiences have been maddening and have involved a lot of , so I definitely understand how infuriating these devices can be sometimes.
While I haven’t personally experienced the same level of frustration with Window Cam, I have found in cases where I needed to re-add/reconnect it (like when changing Wi-Fi SSIDs) that it’s been necessary for me to have my phone within a few feet of the Cam itself in order to get it to connect and complete setup. With some of my other devices, I can stand farther away and get them to connect, but this one seems to require a shorter distance between the Cam and phone, so I don’t know if this Cam’s Bluetooth is exceptionally weak or if something else is happening there.
Also, I once had a Cam OG (one of the older models, not the “2025 Version”) that refused to reconnect to Wi-Fi when I tried to re-add it even though it was in the same room as my Wi-Fi source (an ISP-provided gateway at the time; I’ve since changed to a dedicated router). I moved that Cam about a foot closer (literally moving it from ~8′ to ~7′ between the Cam and the gateway) and tried the re-add again, and it connected with no problem. I mention that because Window Cam seems to be based on Cam OG (the newer version), and sometimes small changes in distance seem to make a big difference in setup success.
Maybe that additional information will be helpful if your roommate decides to take over.
