I purchased 2 of the Window Cam’s and it has been a disaster in connecting.
Took multiple tries for the app to find the camera
When it finally detected the camera after more than 6 times, then the pairing occured and then it asked for my network. I click on my network and I get a Bluetooth Connection error and the app rebooted. on about the 6 th try it connected. On my second camera I had the same problem and contacted wyze (I was on my 12th or so try to no avail) and they said a specialist will have to get back with me. GUESS WHAT NO SURPRISE NO ONE HAS CONTACTED ME
I love the night vision on the window cam but what good it that if I can’t get them to work.
BTW I have rebooted my device, Forced shut down, made sure Bluetooth was working and still could not connect.
Those connection issues are frustrating, and I’ve had to reconnect Window Cam to my Wi-Fi more than once. This seems to help me:
Enable both Bluetooth and Location on the phone I’m using to connect to Window Cam and make sure the Wyze app has both permissions.
Keep the phone near (within a foot or so) the Cam during the setup/pairing process.
Disable WPA3 on my network. I have had Window Cam connect when the closest wireless access point was set to “WPA2/WPA3-Personal”, but I suspect that my AP might have a flaky implementation and not properly fall back and negotiate the connection (I don’t know what protocols Window Cam supports). My next best option with this particular AP is “WPA/WPA2-Personal”, and that has given me better results with both Window Cam and Battery Video Doorbell connections.
I haven’t had to do this with Window Cam, but if you can try setting it up in the same room as your main Wi-Fi source (gateway, router, whatever) and then move it to its intended location later, then I’d definitely try doing that.
Regarding the lack of follow-up from Wyze, I noticed that their Support site has a notice about how busy they are right now because of the holiday season.
I agree. I like that it doesn’t have any spotlight or IR to reflect off the window (you’ll probably want to make sure you turn off the status light to avoid that potential glare; I wish they’d placed that on the back of the Cam instead of the front), and the colors I get using that in combination with my porch light at night are impressive (to me, at least).
Good deal. I’m glad you were able to get both Cams online, and I appreciate the follow-up!
I haven’t had to try a different phone with this particular device, but I’ve definitely had to do that with some older IoT devices that seem to be more finicky.
