Will Wyze Cams Turn On and Off with Hubitat in case my internet connection goes down?

SOME Devices from Wyze can be integrated into Hubitat

  • Wyze Bulb
  • Wyze Color Bulb (Meshlight)
  • Wyze Lightstrip (Non Pro Model. Single Color.)
  • Wyze Plug
  • Wyze Outdoor Plug
  • Wyze Cam (limited support)

BUT I don’t believe they function locally at all. I think they are still cloud-dependent using an unofficial API.

The main reason I left doubt by saying I THINK, is because Home Assistant has recently indicated they may be accessing and controlling some Wyze devices locally now, instead of having to go through the cloud. If this turns out to be accurate, then it is possible that Hubitat may be able to do the same thing, or will at some point be able to be updated to do the same thing.

I have some friends who were going to run some experiments to verify local control at some point, but I haven’t heard results yet.

I would not count on it though. Wyze has said they want to move away from cloud dependency to local control options, so this may be something in the future, but for now, I would assume you will not be able to do this locally (ie: without internet).
