Just for my edification, which IoT devices allow you to do that? I know Kasa doesn’t but I haven’t any other products to compare.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that there was another product that implements the ability to specify a replacement SSID+password via existing connectivity. I was trying to convey that this would seem like a viable solution. (And it seems like one that could be implemented without a huge amount of effort.) This would be especially valuable for the wyze thermostat which has such a more involved setup than the wyze camera.
I don’t have the thermostat but have seen the complaints regarding having to go through the ENTIRE process, which is completely insane. Adding back a camera or plug is fairly simple by comparison.
I agree that having the ability to reassign\reset\change the network SSID and password for all devices, device groups, or just individual devices from within the app, perhaps a “Network Management” UI in the Account tab, would be a great improvement. Not just for the Thermostat, but all Wyze IoT on my account. There are Wyze users with tripple digit device lists.
Here is the Wishlist topic for the request to implement this. Please go there, vote for it, and share your experience and suggestions.
Thanks for the link, I went, I voted. Everyone else who happens to come across this in the future, please also do so.
To CHANGE WIFI on WYZE Thermostat it is necessary to remove the thermostat from the app.
Next, In the WYZE app Home Screen select the plus (+) sign in the upper right corner of the screen
Select “Add Device” Select “Home” then Select Wyze Thermostat. Now Select “Begin Preparation” (it will only take 3 minutes… Don’t worry about the 30 Minuit Estimate… Next select “Begin” doNOT turn off the power select “Next” You already have a Wyze thermostat installed so skip this and select “Next” Answer the voltage question… Most have a forced air system and that is not usually High Voltage. Select your answer “Most say NO” Again already installed so just select “Skip” Jumpers are from original installation so select “Next” If you have a HEAT PUMP then you probably have a two Label system Also, if you pull off your thermostat and see only wires labeled like the top line of the illustration in the app then you don’t have a two Label system and select “NO”… Look at the wires that have been exposed by removing your Wyze thermostat From the wall plate select the letters that correspond to the way your base plate is wired. Select “Next” Select “System Off” Select “Next” Select "Next on Removing Thermostat Select “next” on wire pulling (already done) Select “Next” on plate install. Select “Next” on Wire connection (done) Select “next” one wire preview. Actually Attach the Wyze Thermostat back to the base plate (just align and push on) Select “Next” Power on (already on) select “Next” Wait till the WYZE logo is on the screen select “Next” Begin Pairing Select "Begin"Keep you phone near the thermostat as this is a Bluetooth function. Next select the new Wifi and password.
This is maddening. Total reset and install just because Wi-Fi service changed. Bought my first and last Wyze product.
