How to change the network on my Thermostat

I changed internet providers at my home. Can I change the network on my thermostat? Or do I have to reinstall and reset the entire thing again?

It sounds as though you changed the name of the Wi-Fi network when new service and or equipment was installed. If you’re comfortable with accessing the administrative interface on the new router then you can just change the SSID /network name and password to that which was used in the prior router.

If you stick with the new ssid, then yes, you’ll have to reset & re-install

It’s for the info. I’m not text savvy enough to get into my new router so I will have to reinstall the thermostat

Thanks

I just had to reinstall the thermostat due to a change in routers. This is crazy to have to go through the complete install process just to change wifi info. Good thing I took a photo of my old thermostat wiring as there isn’t a way to do the install without selecting the color of wires from the old thermostat. WYZE make it easy to change Wifi without a COMPLETE INSTALL. WYZE listen to your customers with valid suggestions. When will WYZE publish a complete manual on how to use the thermostat.

I agree 100%. I have not reinstalled my thermostat because I dont remember the old wiring diagram so I cant make it work. So I have to use the the control on the thermostat itself and I cant use any smart features at all. It seems to me that this should be fixed by Wyze!!

Come in Wyze. You can do this on a nest thermostat in two minutes. This is basic functionality. So frustrating you have to reset the thing and start from scratch. Just a stroke of luck I kept the photo.

It’s good security practice to change your network passwords routinely. For me, it’s once a year. Today is that time again, and I can say that having to go through the install phase again is outright absurd.

Another reason they’re changed is they become compromised.
Personally, I don’t think a solution is to ever revert back to an old password to remediate an issue that resides within the Wyze product itself.

This reinstall just reminded me why I need to replace this one. It’s ran up my bills ever since I installed it. It’s a good thing I kept my original thermostat in the garage…

Why reinstall Wyze when I can reinstall my old one that was more efficient.

Captain obvious saves the day…

I had this issue too when I changed routers/network names. Solution:

  1. Delete the existing thermostat from the app.
  2. Follow instructions to set up a new thermostat.

The app thinks that you are installing from scratch, but all you really need to do is click through the steps until it asks you about the wiring, then pull the t stat off the base and click the the appropriate boxes, Put it back on the base and finish the “installation”.

You failed to mention that you still have to redo all of your settings, preferences and filter management.

Who remembers when they last changed their filter? I do. I use a sticky note stuck to my furnace. It never fails me… but Wyze certainly does… because that information, too was missing going through the new setup process all over again.

It’s also a good thing that I took photos of my original install… else I would never have been able to maneuver the app with the correct “wiring options” to get past that “wizard” requirement.

Choose the wrong option? Sorry, your setup is not supported. Try again!

Updating the Wi-Fi on all my Wyze devices was 2 hours I didn’t need to spend resetting each one individually. I don’t know why they still make it so hard to do this.

On the plus side, since I had to take apart and delete my thermostat anyway, it was a good opportunity to rethink the device, and I ended up upgrading to a Nest thermostat. Not looking back…

I changed my Wyze thermostat to a Nest about a year ago… The Wyze thermostat went off line while I was away from home for a few weeks. After a call to tech support I was informed that someone had to physically be at the thermostat to get it back online. Since this was not possible I had to wait until my wife returned home and then I had to coach her over the phone on installing the Wyze app and starting the entire setup procedure on the thermostat. Way too much of a hassle so I then discarded the Wyze thermostat and replaced it with the Google Nest. Wyze needs to wake up and fix this issue. Previously I changed my router with a different password and again this requires a complete new setup. Fortunately I still had the photo of my wiring, so it went rather smoothly.

It appears you have to go through the complete reinstall. You have to do this with the automatic sprinker as well. That one I could guess at the settings so I figured it out, WYZE it is completely unacceptable that you haven’t figured this out 4 years later. How many people do I see that completely bought a different product rather than try to disassemble to see what settings were on their thermostat. I love wyze products but after getting a new router, I am seriously reconsidering continue to build a smart home through wyze products.

The work around is to just rename router the same as replaced router along with the same password. Then the thermostat will recognize the new router as if it was the replaced router. Wyze should fix this, as I complained of same issue a few years ago. I became frustrated with Wyze’s lack of caring for their customer’s complaints, So I just replaced with the Google Nest thermostat.
