What outdoor camera you recommend for me?

I am moving on from Wyze v2 outdoor cams. Endless going offline, unable to reconnect and base station wifi issues every week. So I have removed them and no longer using those since they didn’t work. Few posts here Profile - wyz312 - Wyze Forum .. My home is townhouse front door with no garage. pls see the picture of the door and outside here 4938 Crain St Unit B, Skokie, IL 60077 | Redfin . I am looking for a not super expensive outdoor cam to see who came to my door, looked at packages, person detection and where I can manage the videos on my iphone via an app. I am not DIY. I used to have wyze outdoor cam installed on top of door using 3M TAPES because I am not a DIY. I am not using tape this time. I went to ABT appliance store here and they charge $250 for install and they sell eufy & ring camera. If I don’t need subscription, I will be happy to save money so go for Eufy? I don’t need super fancy and my home is not a single family home type, its townhouse as shown in link picture above. Pls suggest a camera for me that is convenient to use operate . Some sun shine in front during summer , brutal temp in winter in Illinois. thanks

Reolink is another choice besides Eufy if you want Fully Functioning cameras without having to pay a ransom (subscription)

You don’t mention if you currently have Wyze Cam Plus Lite or Cam Plus service. If you do have a grandfathered Cam Plus Lite account, I would recommend a Wyze Cam v3 wired camera. Mine are inside looking out. I have electrical outlets near all my windows and my v3 cameras are not in the harsh elements. Most are sitting on a window sills.

Here is what the above camera sees. I do get some double pane window reflection, but I get acceptable results for my needs.

If you are looking for a non-Wyze camera, I would also check out Tapo.

Looking at my home and door in the picture 4938 Crain St Unit B, Skokie, IL 60077 | Redfin, where would you install/screw the mount for Eufy or any other outdoor camera that has mounting bracket with screws?

Thanks

As far as Wyze cams

-If you need battery powered, then the Battery Cam Pro or Solar Pan would be your two options.
-If you can run power to it (very thin USB cable) then the v4 would be a good option
-If you are granfathered into Cam Plus Lite (free subscription) and want to use that, then the v3 (wired) is really your only option.

-Another option would be one of their doorbell cams, ideally one that can be hardwired to your doorbell wiring.

As far as where to mount it, obviously it depends on which option. Doorbell is obvious, right next to the door. Battery cam you pretty much can put it wherever, but if you want to stick with 3M tape or a magnet, then it will need to be a surface suitable for that. Wired cam maybe next to or below the mailbox (one of mine is under my mailbox and that helps protect it some and also gives a way to help hide the power cord). If your unit is the one on the left, you could potentially mount it outside the window and run the wire under the window, many of mine run through windows and they close and lock fine with the flat cable. The unit on the right does not appear to have open-able windows though.

My unit is the B not the A or the first one. I learnt about window mount camera that are small like this Amazon.com: Amcrest Link 3MP 2K Window Camera, 2.4GHz&5GHz WiFi Indoor Camera, AI Human & Motion Detection, Wide Angle 100° FOV, Night Vision, 2-Way Audio, Wired Power, Supports MicroSD Upto 128GB, AL-W301W : Baby . Will work on my regular window glass from my living room but I don’t know how this will work with the window glass on the screen/security door that will open towards outside? The wire cable is the issue on window on the door. These window cam requires plug in which will work fine on my living room window glass as I have outlet right down below the window.

What you think?

Now regarding doorbell, We have an old door bell that works to make noise when someone presses it form outside. The ring door bell camera only captures person if someone presses the doorbell right? So it won’t detect persons or deliveries ?

This is a Wyze forum so you’re not going to get recommendations or good info for other brands. However Wyze has just released a window mount cam that has a microphone up against the glass which theoretically can pick up sounds through the glass (glass is a decent transducer). They also have a window mount that works with some of the other models of cams, but it seems if you want one for a window, the one specifically designed for it would be a good bet.

That being said personally I’d rather have mine outside the window so that I have the option of using the IR and status lights if needed, and better mic sensitivity. But you can pick one based on what will work best for you.

Wyze doorbells and pretty much all brands of video doorbells can be set to capture and record all motion, no doorbell press required. The wyze duo doorbell even has a dedicated down facing cam to show you packages set at your door.
