I spent alot of time trying to figure out what was going on cameras wouldn’t connect after they finally did one v3 wouldn’t I tried resetting many times it didn’t work went and bought a new one I have had three cameras go bad since I have been using wyze I think it’s time to change I also don’t like the starlight feature it made them worse.
Another WORD salad from overpaid CEO’S and what have you…
I’ve paid for Cam Plus membership for unlimited cameras since December of last year. It doesn’t do anything except cost money. I constantly lose the picture on the main app page to my cameras, lose iCloud videos that were meant to be store or things will simply be “unavailable” to view.
Now all of my cameras constantly go off and tell me there has been a “complete event” that has occurred instead of telling me what is actually going on.
I’ve been trying to troubleshot with Wyze for months and definitely would have skipped this brand of “security” cameras, had I know what I would be buying. No sense in even having security cameras that won’t record. I have one camera that fails to record or notify when people walk right up to my doorstep and I’m constantly having to jump through hoops and reset everything to try to force it to behave.
Waste of money, that’s for sure! I’ll definitely be investing in quality security cameras as it’s evident we get what we pay for, whych is a shame. Those of us who can’t afford high quality cameras waste money on these cheap cameras and end up having to save for the quality brands in the long run.
This is part of why I’m working to replace mine. I was a BIG fan of Wyze, but between the problems you mentioned, the security issues they’ve experienced, and repeated problems with my Wyze vacuum which then died just barely 2 years after getting it … I’m pretty done with them. I won’t be buying any more of their products and am trying to replace them all.
Hmmm… Most of my V3 and OG cam videos from last night (8/9 Apr) failed to upload and I cannot get them to play. I can still go to the SD card and watch them, but it’s very cumbersome to go back to the Events tab, identify the video I want to watch, and then go back to the SD card, search the timeline, watch it, then rinse and repeat for a bunch of videos.
Wyze, please fix whatever is going on!
Why do you have to search the timeline? That’s what the, “Playback” button is designed to do; get you direct to the proper SDcard footage without searching.
Because I can’t access the screen with the Playback button on it. The screenshot in my initial post shows the upload failure error message that blocks it. If I then touch “Ok” it just does the hourglass thing for a few seconds and then pops up the error message again.
What is wrong w app today?
“Today?”
It’s a temporary thing, it’s a bug. Not everybody has the same bug.
Same. I have to wonder how many customers they are losing. I’ve been with them for several years. I’ve recommended them to more people than I can count and several of those people have bought Wyze cams on my recommendation.
After their last crash 6 weeks ago Pet detection on all my V3s stopped working. I could also no longer access my OG cams from work.
Several emails to Wyze support resulted in them telling me that they didn’t believe me that Pet detection broke on all my V3s (it works fine on my other cams), I submitted various logs which was useless, then when I reminded them that my cameras are under warranty and I paid them for a service they are refusing to provide, they simply said they could not fix the problem and they would not honor their warranty and would not replace the broken cams with cams that worked. Basically told me to pound sand and refused to provide a service I paid them for.
They have now ignored my last three emails asking them for an update and how they plan to resolve my problem.
To say they suck would be an insult to companies that actually suck. At last count I have about 20 Wyze cams and have had Cam Plus Unlimited pretty much since it became available.
I’ve just ordered my 6th TP-Link Tapo cam and will have all my Wyze cams replaced probably within 2 weeks. I’m also going to go “Karen” on them and file some complaints with the BBB and see if I can contact Amazon to let them know that one of their vendors is advertising products with certain features and warranties that they do not honor.
Yeah, I’m a bit pissed off at Wyze right now.
I wonder why your cameras aren’t detecting pets; mine do. My neighbor’s cats are recorded and identified daily. And also the occasional dog that I dog sit. And my V3 is behind the window, too.
Yep, since this morning, mine seem to be working again.
It’s a mystery to me too. I’ve reset them, did the new Reset Services thing, toggled Pet detection off and back on, and nothing. Every once in a while, maybe once out of 25 events that have dogs/cats/rabbits/coyotes in them, ONE of the cameras will tag a Pet event, but the rest of the time, nothing, just registers it as Motion.
Before it stopped working it was accurate to about 90%. They all identified all kinds of wildlife around here - skunks, racoons, rabbits, cats, dogs, and most importantly coyotes.
Now I can walk 5 feet in front of them with both of my dogs and it only tags Motion and Person.
I wouldn’t be as fed up if Wyze actually bothered to try to figure it out. Their fallback every other email was “please submit logs…” even though I had already done that, several times. Then they said they didn’t believe me, then they said they wouldn’t fix or replace the broken cams, then they stopped replying to my requests for status updates.
Their products and their support have gone seriously downhill since I first became a customer. They previously even replaced a couple of cams that developed a yellow image.
Not sure what has happened to them but it seems that right around the time they started releasing a million half-baked products, their quality and customer service took a pretty serious nosedive.
I understand that they don’t offer refunds for annual subscriptions and I renewed mine in January, so I will keep using a couple of the Cam Pan V3s until it expires, but the rest of my Wyze cams will be going in my junk box within a matter of weeks. Already replaced four of them with the Tapos. So far so good. No subscription needed, full length event recordings, full AI detection, live view from the app and from my work PC using a free Android emulator (Bluestacks), etc. Yeah, it’ll be another investment of a few hundred $$$ for the cams and SD cards but Wyze has lost me as a customer.
I’m even more annoyed because over the holidays I bought a bunch of new Wyze cams. I was a huge fan. But they have made every effort to piss off and drive away a loyal customer and they succeeded.
Have you tested the Tapo inside a window looking out? If so how would you rate the quality of aiming through windows?
Any chance you have a detection zone toggled on that blocks some of the area in view? Sounds like you’ve checked just about everything else.
For reference, all my V3s detect pets consistently. I have an OG cam set up inside a window and that one does detect pets…just not as reliably.
I kind of wish Wyze would change “Pet” to “Critter” though, as most of the “pets” my cams detect are squirrels, possums, raccoons, and deer.
Hope this helps.

Checked all of that. It simply happened from one day to the next without my having changed anything. One day I had pet detection, suddenly I started noticing that there were no more pet detections on the V3s, started looking through the recorded clips and found plenty with animals but tagged as generic motion.
The irony is that the camera that is most critical for coyote detection used to be an OG, but after the outage I lost the ability to view it from my work network so I bought a V3 to replace the OG, which promptly lost Pet detection (or maybe didn’t even have it from the very start). My three other V3s also stopped detecting pets. Just last night one of my neighbors was walking their large Labrador about 15 feet away from my driveway V3 which is outside and not looking through a window or anything and all it tagged was Person.
But my other cams which are Cam Pan V3s never lost it and they still detect my dogs just fine - well, only within 15 feet, which is what the Cam Pan V3s are good for in general. Between 15 and 18 feet it just detects them as motion, and past 18 feet they don’t detect much of anything.

“Today?”
Ha ha.
When in “Events” page, there are 3 radio buttons, “Person”, “Motion” and “Camera”. It seems that if “Person” is selected, then “Pets” events are not shown. Could this be your issue?

Unfortunately no. I wish it was that easy. I don’t know if it’s a firmware problem, a problem with my account where V3s are not provisioned for Pet detection, or who knows what. But it happens to the V3s whether they are facing through a window or mounted outside with nothing between the camera and the animal. Like I mentioned, yesterday there was a very large white Labrador taking a dump on my driveway (the owner picked it up) roughly 15 feet from the camera and it did not tag the dog. The other cameras have tagged coyotes, rabbits, and skunks as just motion, even when a coyote was literally 4 feet from one of the cams.
Anyway, I’ve already replaced three of them with Tapo C120s, all of which are detecting animals accurate to about 90%, which is roughly the same as the V3s when they were working. I plan on replacing the 4th one within the next two days.

Yes, the two Tapos I have pointed out a window work just fine. Like any other cam pointed out a window, if there’s more light inside than outside the cam will pick up reflections off the window and won’t work as well but during the day when it’s brighter outside and at night when all the inside lights are off, it’s fine. Pet detection has been accurate between 90 and 95% of the time.
As an update to my Wyze support nightmare, I finally got fed up with them ignoring me and let them know that if they kept ignoring me I would file complaints with the BBB since they would no longer communicate with me and were not providing services I had paid for. Also told them I wanted a refund for Cam Plus since they couldn’t deliver the services promised under it.
Got a nasty reply that to paraphrase said that they considered this to be abusive towards their support reps (I didn’t direct it to anyone in particular and was not abusive at all, simply stated that they weren’t delivering what I paid for and this was unacceptable) and I would be banned from receiving support. Ironic considering I already wasn’t receiving any support.
Long story short, got a refund and last night took down my last Wyze cam. Good riddance. Maybe if they improve their products, services, and support I may reconsider them in the future but for now, not a chance. Looks like I picked a good time to finish dumping them - they had another massive outage yesterday!
