What do you do when your cameras stop working and they're out of warranty

Aren’t all Wyze products made in China?

Wow. You must live in a fortress. :grinning:

Seven cams cover my entire house with one in the garage. If not a fortress, you must live in a castle.

Yes. Wyze cams made in China. Worst products in the World.

All the posts besides mine show there is an issue with the lenses and water intrusion but FanBoi it all you want.

Wyze could care less that their claim to the V3’s being outdoor rated is worthless when a third of cams have had the lenses get foggy due to water intrusion just out of the warranty period.

Could be due to my altitude is why it is more prevalent for me, but judging by the numerous posts I am not alone.

Could be. I am 9 feet above sea level.

Yeah, if it was just covering the perimeter of my house, I could do that with just 4 Floodlight Pro cameras and their 180-degree Field of view. Far away cameras are adequate if you only use them to know what is going on and a little blurriness with fewer pixels and other things don’t matter too much.

I use them for a lot more than that though. For one thing, I like to save some videos as memories and want a closer more clear view of the event covering more pixels on some things. Just as one example, I have a lot of my kids’ “Firsts” saved or funny things they said in the public main rooms that would otherwise be lost forever because I didn’t know they were going to say/do it and thus wasn’t recording on my phone. I use a lot of cameras for hundreds of various automations, many of which aren’t even security related in any way and many of which I almost never even look at the recordings for at all. I also have some in places that my pets might get stuck in. For example, I have one in my shed because sometimes my cats will go hide in there as soon as the door opens and we may never open it again for months. I put a camera in there right after my black got trapped in the shed for 10 days and miraculously didn’t die. I have some for completely frivolous uses. I have used them with the Wyze Smart Vision trained to alert me if a stove burner is left on, or if my cats run out of food or water (so I know it’s time to refill them). I even have some being used to watch my new cat litter robot, and have an automation using cameras that ensures it will never cycle when there is a cat in the room, so they never get scared by seeing it move.

I also have cameras from other companies in critical places as redundancy so that no outage by one company will take down my view of everything.

There are countless ways I use the cams, even not for security. The over-fortressing of my house is not as intentional as a side-benefit of everything else.

The first time I put a camera inside my house it was because my at the time pre-teen daughter was compulsively lying about the most frivolous stuff (I think something she got from a friend), even though we knew 100% that she did something. Having a camera to show her we knew, helped a lot. She came to see she should be honest with us and there was nothing to fear. It dramatically helped improve our relationship and help her be more open to talking about things. It was totally worth it. Then I realized they could be useful in other ways such as automated lighting or whatever. Obviously, I keep them out of privacy-sensitive areas still (bathrooms, bedrooms, etc), but I love them.

3200-3400 feet for my cams depending where they are on my property.

So that pressure comes in to play on the lens seal failures for sure…

Possibly, though I am almost a mile in altitude (4.8Kfeet). :man_shrugging:

I don’t disagree that Wyze should make future cams with improved sealing. I agree that plenty of people have had sealing issues, so it is certainly something that should be improved to accommodate whatever the use-case difference is. There is no disagreement there.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I almost asked for diagram of where you mount them, but that would be too pushy and creepy. :grinning:

Post #2 on this link has an interesting protection idea for a Pan v2.

Haha. It’s all good. I won’t show it on Google Maps, but I’ll give a quick drawing off memory. I might’ve forgotten some. There are some portable ones I move around depending on what’s going on…and I’ll only show the current outdoor setup (plus the garage). I live on a corner house (road on left and bottom, garage on bottom, front door on middle-left).

Red are my FLPros.Yellow are the Video Doorbells. Blue are a few of the non-Wyze cameras (I actually have about 8 non-Wyze cameras right now, not are shown here). Green are various other Wyze cameras. The long blue thing is my pool surrounded by a gate. The brown thing is the kids’ playground. The grey thing up top is my shed. I’m trying to switch a lot my main cameras to be at least 2K now…which is part of why I have so many…I might give away a bunch of my 1080p cams to family, but I’ll definitely at least keep 1 of each model so I can test stuff out for people on the forums. I’m currently down to only having 1 Pan V1, 1 Pan V2, 1 OG, 1 OG-T. I probably won’t get rid of my V3’s though because I love the Invisible Near IR that no other Wyze camera has (I hate the Visible far IR with a passion).

I do have cams all around my backyard as well as my pool. We have a lot of family and friends come use our pool, sometimes my brother in law has a pool party with friends and drunk people, and I often go work while people are swimming and I like to make sure nobody is drowning on my property (liability and all that), and especially make sure my kids don’t get into the pool area without an adult supervising them. Also my kids’ playground in the grass area (someone might fall off it and get hurt, etc. But also if they are really excited about something they did or achieved. My toddler will ask me to save a video of them doing things they’re proud of too, so it’s nice to have some that are closer up with better resolution and actually capture the sound too. Definitely way more than I need. I could get away with just 4 of the FLPros seeing everything on the outside just fine (they are my main cameras unless I want to save something or do an automation with a particular detection zone or a particular angle…not all are mounted at the same height or angle and some use detection zones for various things).

I’m not actually really concerned about a break-in in this neighborhood, and I’m up working until sometime between 4am-7am when I go to bed, so there’s someone awake at my house 24hrs anyway.

Wow. I was joking but that is impressive. Thanks for sharing. I don’t have a shed or playground but do have a pool and a garage. I only have 7 Wyze cams (mix of V2 and V3). All of my cams are inside and external facing. The cam in the garage monitors my car and garage door. The Wyse are denoted in green.

I have two facing the street and three facing the backyard, two or which watch the pool. I also have one on the side and one in the garage. I have a 2K Eufy pan cam (Red) that I is set up when I am on vacation to monitor the inside of the house when I am away. A fence surrounds my pool.

Likewise as well here. I am not concerned at the moment about break-ins, but I do like monitoring who comes to the door. When I was in Israel, I watched the lawn guys mow my yard. I also use it to see when someone arrives so I can greet them at the door. I usually stay up till 4am, so I am here all day. No Kids and no brother. My sister is no problem.

Nice! Yours is a lot more reasonable. :joy:

Ditto. I have Google/Alexa announce in my Home Office when someone is in front of my house, when they come to my door (even if they don’t ring the doorbell), When my mailbox is opened, if anyone enters the pool area, if anyone is in the pool, etc.

Same. Some of my cams basically sit dormant until I go on vacation. When I go on vacation I actually add some cameras into other places I never have them, like my bedroom, and my teenager’s bedroom just so we can all see what the cats are up to and find them anywhere. :joy_cat: And yes, I have a few Eufy cams as well for redundancy (ie: AWS outages). I also take a couple with me on vacation, including a Doorbell and Battery Cam Pro.

I love my Floodlight Pros the most though. They see EVERYTHING and light up the entire area super bright (the main reason I have more than one on each side). I have sensors converted to switches that will turn them all on or off (ie: want to swim with it light outside, or dark and see the stars).

I mostly have the other 1080p cameras because they are what I originally had, and then I replaced them with 2K cams and I figure I might as well find a use for the old ones still since I have them.

We had a contractor here a few years back who noticed the plethora of cameras. He commented about having to work at Fort Knox.
