Yep, that is why I chose the word “reception” .
You have to accept that when you move it, it makes a difference by your own words.
Different antenna configurations, chips, whatever, will make a difference between models, brands, etc.
Also, by putting it up closer to the ceiling/roof, even more wood, 2x4’s, etc. will make a difference.
Signal going 90 degrees directly through a wall between an access point and the client will be much better than the same wall and distance, but at a shallower angle where the signal will be going through many more 2x4’s, siding, etc.
The V3 has less data, so it is less susceptible to small dropouts, etc.
That doesn’t make it any less frustrating, but you work with what you have, or you pound sand.
Hopefully a protocol tweak, compression algorithm, or whatever will help.
I believe a lot of people are pointing to the faults of the camera, when this could very well be the actual app instead. Seems Android it better that IOS in this situation…
And on Android, turning on hardware decoding completely fixes any stuttering on ALL 16 (yes SIXTEEN) of my V3 Pros. I have them inside, outside, and at another home.
I am running on a Galaxy Note 8 (Ancient) by today’s standards, but with hardware decoding turned on, no streaming issues.
But they can’t do “Smart Focus” that way.
Does making that change in the app change the cameras?
No.
So that is the app problem.
Can I turn on the IR or night vision while actually looking at the stream on the Pro like I can on the V3?
No.
App problem again, not the camera.
Can I mute the mic on the app (because there may be a lot of background noise around me) without muting the speaker on the app, and then have to turn on “speaker” again to hear what someone is saying (serious pain in the butt).
No.
App problem.
I am using 2 Ubiquiti U6-LR access points, a ubiquity router, separate cable modem, none Xfinity owned, so my network is a bit more advanced than most homers, but I have over 100 active devices on my network, most all wireless.
With this many wireless devices, I am starting to want devices like smart light bulbs to have some sort of “PowerLine” access instead of wireless. Turn on the microwave and start affecting lights and motion sensors?
I am eagerly awaiting the next app update, and firmware updates for that matter.
Hi,
I would like to add on the number of “bars” and signal strength.
Just because the cam can see a strong signal broadcasted to it, that doesn’t mean that the cam has the power to reach back to the access point reliably.
My phone’s wireless can see strong signal coming from mountain side wireless internet providers like in the Okanogan Valley, but I can’t make a connection because the phone doesn’t have the oomph and directionality to get all the way back to the tower miles away.
People sometimes put their access points on “high power” transmit settings, and this can cause problems, where medium or even low may be the better choice.
As far as the camera transmitting right next to a roof overhang made of metal, and even lots of holes similar to the window of a microwave… one might not be so surprised…
I am still not saying these things don’t need work…
By the way, one thing to mention as far as 2K goes, but not the V3 Pro… A while back for the heck of it, I tried out a Eufy 2K camera because I was curious about other options. The Eufy had no issue streaming in 2K, in all the camera spots I tried it in testing. I even tried it near our camper down by my driveway which is 4 times the distance of anywhere I’ve tried the V3 Pro. I was considering a camera to watch the camper which I haven’t done yet. I may have to try a V3 down there now that I think about it again.
This is in no way a Eufy is better than Wyze comment, just an observation. I have and enjoy many Wyze cameras and devices. It ended up that the Eufy app had a deal breaker for me in that you could only live stream the camera on one device at a time per account. I have two wall mounted tablets in the house that stream one of my cameras 24/7, so that plus my phone or other devices I may want to check on wouldn’t work for me. I gave away the Eufy 2k camera and that was that.
My network is overkill for the size of my house, but I like robust and overkill. As a matter of fact, inside our camper that I mentioned is an HD TV. I can watch streaming TV in there just fine using an Amazon FireStick connected to the TV which is inside the camper that has metal studs in it’s walls and is a good 80 feet from the house.
I’m sure Wyze will get this straightened out at some point, they usually do, and I look forward to it. I’m not mad about it at all. I’ll just rely on the V3 in the important areas for now before upgrading to any more pros.
That said, those of us with this issue aren’t talking about using the V3 Pro anywhere near their range or use limits. If a V3 or other devices work fine in a given location, then the Pro should as well without needing to move it 2 feet or worrying about a gutter or soffit. Especially when the Pro is so close to the access point and only into the first quarter of it’s range circle, but again more importantly when the others work in the same or even worse spot.
Didn’t someone run an experiment of having the camera inside and point it outside and it still froze?
Yup, not me, but yes. Someone also covered the camera with a black bag and it worked fine.
How much coffee have you had today? LOL
I used to think my Eufy Indoor 2K cams were always in 2K, then someone pointed out to me I was mistaken…
Apparently, if you set the eufy cams to record 24/7, they will switch to 1080p no matter what other settings you have, including if you have everything set to 2K and “High” which I thought was outrageous. My choices were to either not record 24/7 or not have 2K. I couldn’t understand why they did this when it’s all local. Makes no sense.
Additionally, while I haven’t verified personally, someone else told me that the livestream isn’t always in 2K either. It can downgrade itself to lower resolution when streaming to ensure a better experience since sometimes streaming 2K was not “good”. --Again, I have not independently verified this though.
I guess my point is…are you 100% absolutely sure your eufy indoor cams were ACTUALLY in 2K? because they are known to be somewhat misleading in that department…
Having said that, I still have 3 eufy 2K Indoor cams that I use as redundancies for my Wyze cams in 3 critical areas just in case there is an AWS outage or something…this ensures I never miss anything, but I certainly keep Wyze as my primary system.
That’s good info, RE Eufy and 2K.
Honestly, I didn’t get all that far into it. If I remember correctly, it was around the time when Wyze released the V3 and I got the Eufy to compare with the V3 before committing to upgrading a bunch of V2 cameras to V3. I ended up sticking with Wyze and buying several V3.
But as far as testing the Eufy, I never even set it to record, and I don’t think I even installed an SD card, but did set it to 2K. I do remember that the view was significantly better than the Wyze V2 at the time and had more detail than the Wyze V3, especially on things like the cement sidewalk, branches and grass. I forget the term for it, but large areas like grass were more stable, rather than fluctuating. Again, I forget the term for that fluctuating. The V3 Pro when it works is also more stable on those grass areas than the V3 and looks really good.
Artifacts, I’m guessing?
I think that’s it. Like a field of little blotches moving around.
Just received new wyze pro….will set up tomorrow and see what happens.
This issue took first place for the forums in this month’s Fix-it-Friday! I look forward to hearing more about what they find out and what they’re doing about it, maybe in next week’s report. There isn’t much reported right now, but it’s a good sign they don’t have any further questions right now:
Update: As of today in my V3 Pro in the lower position is NOT live streaming. I have come to the conclusion this is a day/night issue and an iOS issue as this does not seem to happen with Android.
Ok …My report on wyze v3 Pro replacement.
Did not put back outside because I m tired of climbing the ladder.
I have it downstairs in a bay window looking out to daylight.
The camera skips multiple times in a one minute period.
When I turn the camera to face inside it works flawlessly.
I must agree something is up with a sensor and I also have an iOS device.
Good to know it is not the distance…at least I assume it is not.
All I did was turn the camera around 180 degrees so there is no way the signal is a problem in my thinking??
That is good data - however, turning an antenna around can certainly make a big difference in reception.
Maybe if you’re 75 yards away from your Access Point. Not when you’re 10 ft from it. Come on, this isn’t the user’s fault.
Geez, who said it was his fault? Just trying to narrow down a possible explanation for this problem. It just appears to me to be a lousy WiFi implementation that can’t handle the needs of the camera, but maybe the answer will be more interesting.
Good point but I highly doubt they would put anything other than an omnidirectional antenna in a product like this…plus another person had the same experience. The possibility we both had the same orientation from our routers is highly improbable but possible.
I m about 50ft away and through 1 floor and 2 walls.
Now we are at dusk on the east coast and the camera is streaming with no problems . Light problem sounds pretty good but I m not an expert.
