We would like your input on notifications for automations - 2/5/2026

Hello friends,

Our team is working on the possibility of some automation notifications and were looking for some feedback. We would love to hear from you especially about the following items.

  1. Would you like to receive notifications when your automations execute?
  2. If yes, which automation types would benefit you the most, scheduled automations or location triggered ones?
  3. What specific use cases would you have? (e.g. “leaving home" automations, scheduled power on/off routines, etc.)

This will help us what scenarios actually need notifications vs what will be just ‘noise’.

Personally, I would prefer Wyze add an option for “Custom message” notification as an action.

This is possible to do in a lot of other platforms such as Alexa or home assistant or many others. In fact, right now I have to use those systems with my Wyze devices Just so that I can make custom notifications for them.

This would allow us to just add a notification as one of the actions in an automation. If you are thinking of doing THAT, then it will absolutely be useful.

This will allow people to get notifications for almost any trigger that you don’t currently support being able to do right now. If I want a notification when my spotlight turns on, I can get a notification for that. I can get notifications different geolocation triggers like you mentioned.

Parents could theoretically set something up so that they get a notification they’re when someone in the family comes home or leaves home.

Now anything that is a trigger can be a notification. And if you allow custom notifications, people can mix it with keywords for notification parsing apps (macrodroid, Tasker, etc) to do something specific with that notification, including making it act as a trigger for another platform like home assistant, or to do something on your phone locally, and you wouldn’t have to build the separate routine for each notification. Notification if you can just program the notification data special keyword that it looks for to group notifications of a similar type.

I’ve suggested adding notifications as an action in the past.

But I still think something that would be even more useful would be to prioritize allowing conditional operators (if-rhen, and, or, not, etc), And adding time-based wait conditions, as well as sequential action logic instead of random order blasting.

But notifications has an action is a good step

Could the Wyze Team first focus on fixing the bare essentials? Why some devices are still not able to get audio on the browser, but everything works on the phone app. The data obviously made it back to your servers. So why is the BCP and Pan v3 still getting muted clips when viewed on the browser?

This is an interesting question as most of the devices: Sensors; Cameras; Security all provide a form of notification. Other devices like bulbs, plugs, and switches don’t.

I like @carverofchoice suggestion, allow custom notifications then you wont have to worry about specifically coding each item. Basically enhance the automation process and add a section for notifications. Then allow a custom text box and if the text box contains something then send out a notification for that automation.

I’ll answer the direct questions first:

  1. Not generally, no, but for some specific use cases I might want to enable notifications on a particular Automation. This should not be an all-or-nothing feature.
  2. If I have to choose between those two, then I’d say Schedule Automations, though I could imagine situations where Device & Service Trigger Automations could benefit from this as an option. I could also imagine a Shortcuts use case.
  3. If I have IFTTT turn on a Wyze Bulb Color because of an expected freeze notice or other weather event, then with a feature like this I could also set a Device & Service Trigger to generate a Wyze push notification so that I have an additional means of receiving the message. For certain Schedules or Shortcuts, I might want to know that something executed successfully or that a shared-access user ran a Shortcut.

Here are some my questions with this topic:

  1. What are users actually requesting with regard to notifications for Automations?
  2. How does this fit into Wyze’s 2026 plans for “[f]ixing notifications for real”?[1]
  3. The recent Founders e-mail goes on to say this about notifications: “They should be shorter, smarter, and more meaningful. The technology is there, and we made progress this year with the NoBigDeal Filter, but we’re not done yet.” Wouldn’t this just have the potential to add to notification overload by adding another stream (Automations in addition to devices) for pinging users’ mobile devices if not implemented thoughtfully and carefully?
  4. Why is Wyze asking about this instead of asking about input about things many users are publicly requesting, like Wishlist topics addressing other Automations and notifications areas (noted below), or providing insight into Wyze’s plans for Home Assistant and/or Matter support?

As I said in my first answer, I wouldn’t generally want to see notifications for Automations unless there’s a problem, and this is how the Google Home model seems to handle it. Within that ecosystem, I might see a notification on my phone if a routine fails in some way (unresponsive device, etc.), but otherwise the system doesn’t bother me with unnecessary information.

Also, something like this should be completely optional and something that a user could enable or disable on each individual Automation’s creation/edit screen, such as a line like one of these:

  • / Notify me when this runs?
  • Notify me when this runs? /
  • Send this message when this runs: {user-input-message-here}

There could also be an Automations line or section within  Account ➜ Notifications ➜ Push Notifications with a global/default setting like “ / Enable for Automations”, but the user’s individual choice for a specific Automation should always have priority and override this global setting.

Where I would really want to see Wyze prioritize development resources, though, would be existing Wishlist items related to Automations and notifications:

I agree. I don’t know what Wyze has in mind for an implementation related to the questions above, but a customization option would have the potential for a lot of flexibility in terms of what users might be able to do with this.

I’d like to see this, too, and it’s on the request list in “Add More Actions for Wyze Automations (Rules)”.

Yes! This would be useful.

:100: ! Users have already told Wyze what they want with the automations. It would be nice if they listen to those.

I totally agree and second what @carverofchoice and @Crease said above.

I would like to see notifications to be sent out by text and not just push notifications. The volume of push notifications on an iPhone is very weak and cannot be increased. Text notifications come through at high volume, and you can hear your phone in a crowded room.

Hi Jason. I know this isn’t related to the topic you wrote about, and since I don’t know how to get someone at Wyze attention, would you please let me know if Wyze is working on a loud siren for the Home Security System? This would really benefit elderly people with hearing loss. Thank you, and I apologize for asking about a different subject than what you were looking for. Maryann D.

As the owner of the account & cameras, can we please get notifications of settings changed on the camera such as power on/off? I don’t like that anyone with access to my camera can (whether accidentally or purposely) turn a camera off without me knowing. I lose all possible recordings during that downtime I’m unaware of!
