Hello, I have been trying to get my WCO to record in travel mode. While it does allow me to fully set it up and record, it only records until the end of the day and then stops recording. I’ve set it up to record for 7 days and it recorded from set up time (14:45) until the last motion of the same day (19:50).
Is it possible to have it record for the full duration on motion only?
Additionally I also set up for the max continuous recording, and it also stopped recording after a few hours.
As a final note, I do have the camera set up with a solar panel so it will not loose all battery over time.
I don’t use Wyze Cam Outdoor, so I don’t have any experience with Travel Mode. What kind of response did you get from the chatbot on the Support site? I modified your original question to get this reply:
I don’t know if that or the Help Center article I linked above answers your question, but since no one else has yet replied to your topic, I’m going to ping @carverofchoice to see if he has additional input, because I believe he has experience with this feature.
I think @Crease covered it pretty well, but I will give some short answers in my own words just in case it’s helpful.
Yes. As I recall, In Travel Mode, Wyze Outdoor cameras primarily use Scheduled Recording which primarily uses motion-only recording to a microSD card.
I know the support article Crease quoted said It cannot do continuous recording in travel mode, but I know that’s not entirely true, because that is the main way I use travel mode when I go hiking. I would set it up to record continuously for the entire hike, while simultaneously doing a time lapse of the entire hike. Then I would just download the videos afterward. I don’t recall the full details because I don’t use it very often, but I know I definitely recorded a couple of hours straight on travel mode and not just motion events.
Hmm, If you are talking about continuous recording, I never used continuous recording for more than a few hours on travel mode but unless you have it plugged in to a wall outlet, the battery always dies within a couple of hours even if you have it on a solar panel. The battery just can’t last overnight recording constantly, so I suspect that’s your problem since you said it’s using a solar panel. That’s not enough to continuously record more than a few hours straight. But if you are talking about a scheduled recording that records motion events, you can have that last for up to around a month I believe before having to set up a new scheduled recording.
Thank you for your responses. Now that it is confirmed that it should be recording on motion only for the duration of the schedule, how would I ensure that it continues the recording? I’ve set it up to record to the micro SD card for 7 days on motion activation only while connected to a solar panel. I do not get even 24 hours of motion recording. I’ve tried to set it up multiple times with the same result.
It sounds like it isn’t functioning as intended Because you shouldn’t have to do anything special other than setup the scheduled dates. It could be worth contacting support to see if they have anything in their knowledge base about this issue being reported by others in the past.
@Antonius I don’t know if you’re very familiar with travel mode, but I do know that you are extremely familiar with wco’s in general. Have you done much with scheduled recordings to capture events of your animal visitors? I don’t typically use scheduled recording very often, and it’s actually been more than a year since I turned on my WCOs.
If I need to go find them and turn them on to try and help figure this out I will try to do that, but if someone else already knows the answer that would be great.
I’ve used travel mode a few times for just short periods, an hour or two, didn’t like it because I had to leave the cams wifi active on my phone. I have done a lot of Scheduled Event recording to the SD on all four of my WCOv1. It will record continuous but I always set it for motion only, set for 30 days, 23 hours, no cooldown period, max duration of each recording to 5 min. The camera will record as long as motion continues up to 5 min. then it will start another 5 min video.
If you do scheduled event recording when your camera is connected to your home wifi I recommend that you turn off Detects Motion on the camera’s event recording app setting. If it is recording events to the cloud and the SD it seems to always corrupt the cloud upload process and videos, SD video is fine. Just my experience.
