Video doorbell pro motion detect through single pane of glass?

My ring doorbell cannot motion detect through the single pane of glass in my storm door, can video doorbell pro motion detect through single pane of glass?

My first question would be why are you placing the doorbell inside? That defeats the purpose doesn’t it? A V3 camera is cheaper than the doorbell if all you want is a camera looking through a pane of glass.

I agree. But no, it can’t detect through glass as it uses a PIR sensor.

A v3 can though

As @IEatBeans said, battery-operated Video Doorbells (or other battery-operated cameras) are not good for looking through glass since they use PIR sensors instead of pixel changes to detect motion, and when glass is in the way, it will reflect most of the PIR back or mess it up to not function correctly. You will have this same problem with almost all battery-operated Video doorbells.

It is recommended to mount the Video Doorbell outside of the glass instead, or have a second wired camera that is dedicated to motion-detecting while the video doorbell is used solely as a doorbell for having someone press the button.
