USB Cam Cable Repair Kits

I just had to repair a cam cable that got chewed by
a rodent so when I ordered more I thought I would leave a link here:

Well, nice to know this exists. Have not seen this before. I keep all sorts of cables at the ready.

Question, please. Why though repair versus replace.

I wondered that, but then I saw that the topic was tagged cam-pan-v3, so I wonder if at least part of the reason has to do with the peculiar L-shape of the Micro-B end of the cable. That’s a good question, though. I recently needed a replacement cable for a Wyze Cam and found some on Amazon that are nearly a perfect fit: The dimensions of the Micro-B connector allow it to fit into the silicone sleeve on the Cam’s pigtail as well as the original, for my purposes, and the vendor was really good about answering my questions prior to the sale. They’re not the L-shaped connector, though, which was fine for my Cam OG but wouldn’t be a good fit for Cam Pan v3.

@Crease, thanks for that link. I bet you do too, save links from using their List feature, so you can find them later if needed. I’ve seen that V3 pan remarkably unusual replacement cable on Amazon too. Didn’t save the link that time, simply because unlikely I would need it.

You’re welcome! Sometimes on Amazon I’ll add things to a List, or sometimes I just add stuff to my cart and then move it to the “Saved for later” section. I haven’t bought enough in the past year to qualify for leaving a review, otherwise I would’ve done that for that seller. I contacted them prior to the sale because in the images the connector size looked right in terms of size and shape, but I was curious about the dimensions. I measured ~10.15 mm × ~5.95 mm (width and height in cross section) for the connector with a digital caliper and asked the seller about those dimensions. They took several days to respond but then sent me this:

That was more detail than I expected, and it looked close enough, so I bought. Visually you can tell when looking at a new cable beside the original that the newer one has a little thicker connector (6.2 mm vs. ~5.95 mm), but it’s an easy and snug fit into the Cam’s silicone pigtail connector sleeve. The cable itself is a little thicker, too, so maybe that portends durability. I went with the 10′ cables because I could use the extra length but didn’t need a lot; they also make 20′ cables.

If I had a good source for a Cam Pan v3 cable, then I’d drop that here, too. So far I haven’t needed to replace an original cable on one of those, though. I needed these only because I had a Cam OG with power issues that I isolated to the Micro-B connector of its OEM cable, and since I’ve replaced the cable that camera hasn’t given me any more problems.

Hopefully @PaulT doesn’t mind this diversion too much.

I tagged in error - it was just a regular V3. They would work for any of the cables that have 4 wires. The actual connector was cut off and tossed.

Repair - $5 per camera and got it fixed immediately. No waiting for a $25+ replacement.
