Turn a Wyze Cam into a Webcam (Wiki)

I apologize; I have not tried the webcam firmware myself. Since I don’t have a need (since my laptop, phone and iPad have their own cameras), I’m not sure I’ll ever find time to try. I hope another user who has tried with macOS 10.15 will chime in here.

Me too and hope so too!

You may want to make a webcam-mac-specific topic. in #ask-the-community as more people may be likely to see that. We don’t normally encourage cross-posting, but I think it would okay in this case.

thanks and done!

Had this issue too with a brand new 64gb SanDisk Ultra card. I opened up the formatting too in Windows, Deleted all partitions, then made a 32gb partition in FAT (no exFAT) and it worked like a charm.

Fought this for about 1/2 hour to figure it out.

Can Wyze tech support help us all with our issues?

Actually I just got it to work finally. I tried with no less than 6 different SD cards and the one that worked for me was a cheap straight from China 512MB microSD card. Worked immediately. All teh other ones, all formatted FAT32 didn’t work but this wacky one did. Straaaange. Here’s the funny - I do gaming and recording of gameplay and while the Windows 10 Camera App works with it, Nvidia’s Shadowplay recognized I have a camera but won’t work with it, while other game recording software works with anything else I plug in. Weird.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a Mac computer?

same issue

I was able to prepare the SD card on a Mac and flash my V2 successfully. It won’t detect the demo.bin if the SD card is in a Mac format. Using a Windows-formatted card I got the blue light and firmware update worked. Also, I can only get the new webcam to show up on my Windows PC, nothing is detected on MacOS 10.15.3 or 10.15.4 … No USB device listed at all, no new camera source in Photo Booth or Zoom. Camera works fine on Windows though. Would love to know about any firmware updates that enable this to work on current MacOS versions.

So do we think the reason my v2 cam isn’t flashing is because I’m using a 64gb SD card and not a 32? I don’t want to order a 32gb card just to have that not work, either.

Nope. I flashed mine with a 64 gb mcicro SD. Just format it to only 32gb as FAT instead of all 64gb

Hey thanks! This did the trick. I ended up paratitioning it to 32gb and formatting that to FAT32, and thankfully it worked. I know some people were saying they were having issues with a partitioned drive, but somehow it worked for me.

I think the issues with partitions is if they format the second partition.

I am having the same issue but doesn’t look like anyone else is. ;-(

Edit: I was wrong others are having the Problem. I believe my problem is that I do not have a Usb A to Usb A cable. ie. the flat rectangular cable that plugs into the computer and is also located above the micro usb port of the webcam. I saw that A-A comments but dismissed it thinking it would just be the cable that came with the camera. Thus, I have ordered one on Amazon and Hopefully that will resolve my issue!

Admins: It would be nice to put a note on the instructions listed that the cable used is not the cable that the camera comes with. Thank you!

I don’t think this is the same issue, although I maybe wrong. I have always used the USB A-A cable that I also ordered from Amazon for the same purpose… although now I am wondering how your Anmazon A-A cable works… Strangely I bought a USB3 (sabrent) hub around the same time and since I connected my Amazon USB A-A cable through my Amazon hub (as opposed to directly to a USB port on my motherboard), I am now getting MS Teams to recognise the camera, but still cannot display an image. Baby steps, but TBH, have given up hope!

can you use the wyze cam v1 for this or just v2 ? and what will happen if you do it the firmware on the v1

Welcome to the community, @Jhuaman26! I think the webcam FW only works on the v2 and cam pan according to the support article.

Hi. If we turn Wyze Cam Pan into webcam, is it possible to rotate 360* by using app or something?

I have the same problem. The flashed webcam is appearing as a Samsung Android Phone, Nook Android Interface. When I uninstall it, and plug the webcam back in, it pops up as the Nook Android Interface, again.
