I had checked WYZE product page. nothing in there indicating it is a CLOUD camera.
Those of you upset over the Agree or Leave thing should support the EFF organization who lobbies over this sort of 21st century legalese. The only way companies will stop these practices is by law.
You do realize ceiling fans move and vibrate, that could be a large part of your problem as far as detection goes.
Law is what started these practices. ![]()
People and companies being held responsible and sued for everything imaginable is why we have these TOS agreements.
Unfortunately it seems that Wyze’s business model and attitude toward customers have gone down hill very fast in the company’s short life. One indicator of that has been the multiple updates to the TOS, pushed out without any summary to explain what has changed and why. Wyze tells you they have updated the TOS and show you the middle finger - it’s up to you to re-read the entire TOS and figure out what changed. Another indicator for the downhill slide is adopting Microsoft’s model for updates: Put out some hacked and untested code and let the customer debug it for you. I used to recommend Wyze products to people I came across, but no more. The low prices aren’t worth it. Let’s face it, the reason Wyze exists is same as many other tech start-ups. Once they establish a substantial customer base Wyze will be put up for sale to one of the big boys. The current down-hill slide is the process of training their customers for the big company ownership.

I wish I had an underground bunker and tin foil hat, it sounds kind of fun, you know like a an mancave kind of thing. ![]()
Respectfully there’s a truism in tech software: The less one pays for a product or service, the more likely they are to abuse and complain about it. Could Wyze publish a FAQ for every update? Sure, and maybe that’s a suggestion you’d like to make.
My experience with Wyze is far better than with Netgear/Arlo who are screwing customers who’ve paid hundreds for their cameras and getting slapped with $4/month camera subscriptions for a service level they once had free. Their software is more buggy, their browser interface is still Adobe Flash.
Wyze is a young company. Have lots of potentials.
Withiut prejudice, Most of the users simply try to help by pointing out areas that needs improvements and not to impede user satifaction experiences.
Wyze could have done a better job with the terms of the agreement with the company providing person identification software. That should have been done in the interest of protecting customers in the event of a takeover.
I’m generally happy with Wyze though.
I guess this guy has never used a Microsoft product. They and a lot of others change or update their Terms and Privacy all the time. Fact of life for better or worse.
It’s impossible to know, but my expectation is that this acquisition was completely unexpected, and the the decision to invalidate the original agreement came from the Apple. Most likely, the agreement to license the XNOR technology would have continued indefinitely, without their acquisition by Apple.
I’m not a lawyer so I have no idea if they could have planned for transfer of ownership issues in advance. Seems like a tough scenario to foresee…
In my experience, when corporate agreements are drafted, the impact of acquisition and survivability of the commitments is part of the contract.
Failure to address that possibility is amateurish.
So either Wyze did not have the clout to do that (despite being an Amazon-owned company!) or they forgot to sweat the details.
Either way, not good. But as I said earlier, I like the company and it’s products and one screw up is forgivable. Hopefully, they learned!
Where are you getting this info?
While Wyze’s founder did work for Amazon, the Wyze company is not owned by Amazon.
Your question is valid. I was misinformed. I guess Wyze was founded by former Amazon employees but has now ownership by Amazon.
My statement about drafting the agreement to cover acquisition contingencies is still valid though.
The Chinese own Wyze!
Wyze Lab, Inc. is not a Chinese company nor is it owned by Amazon.
Hahaha oh man I have to stop following this thread. The amount of false information that is being shared is getting out of hand…
this thread is no different than any other legitimate complaint thread on this forum. wyze apologists rush to defend the company and condemn the op. wish i could down-vote posts.
