Suddenly getting double notifications on each of my 9 V3 cams. One is a notice of motion detection, and then about 5 seconds later I get another when the “preview” of the event shows. Its happening on 3 separate android devices, and the strangest part is that on 2 of the devices the second alert is a different notification sound (none of them are Wyze custom sounds"). I’ve read everything here I can find, and nothing recent appears. What obvious thing am I missing? ![]()
Maybe try rebooting the phone if you haven’t already?
I stopped using the wyze notification sounds well over a year ago as I found them flaky. I just leave the wyze app set to the default and choose a system sound in the OS settings, not sure if that has anything to do with what you’re seeing or not, just a thought. It almost sounds like you’re getting both a wyze sound and a system sound perhaps.
Did your app update recently - could be related. Or all of the above could be totally unrelated and there is just something funky going on with their servers, though I haven’t seen any double notifications on my android today.
You also have the beta tag on your profile, so it is possible it is a bug in the beta too, if you’re still running a beta app.
I’ve rebooted all 3 and even re-installed the app on all 3. Never tried Wyze custom sounds.
I’d have to look at the last update time…
It’s interesting that I have a “Beta” tag as I’ve never had a beta version of the app!
Crazy frustrating…
I don’t mean the custom sounds in the wyze app, just go into the notification settings in android and find whichever one shows a bunch of matches and change it to a system sound instead of “app provided sound”. However you can also look in notification history and see what each notification came from, maybe you’re now getting it from two different “wyze notification” categories, which I think is one of the things that had happened to me back when I got fed up with the wyze sounds.
The beta tag is something you can add (or remove) in your profile on the forum.
Thanks! The notification history (I had not thought of that) showed they were coming from 2 distinct Wyze catagories: “WyzeMessage” using the correct system notification sound I have for everything, and “WyzeSound1” which was using a “app approved sound” which i can see in the android list (its a samsung sound).
I have blocked the WyzeSound1 notifications for now until I can turn it off. The immediate impact to that I used to get a “Complete Motion Detected” notification which displayed…the instant that second sound started the notification would expand into a video preview which i could press play on if i wanted. Now the initial notification never expands into a preview.
Hopefully that will give me a lead to follow…
Thanks again!
Odd, apparently the video preview that comes through is for whatever reason coming as a different category and triggering a different notification. May be a bug in the app if it updated recently. I don’t have video previews (I think that’s for subscribers only) so can’t confirm if I see anything like this. I only have “wyzemessage”.
Well that in itself is another good data point to help investigate why this is all happening!
You’re in the Beta group: https://forums.wyze.com/g/Beta?filter=paul.n.jody (you can see by clicking that link). You can join or leave that group at will here in the Forum, and you can also change the “Flair” setting in your Account Preferences if you like. If you’re not actually using the beta app (opting into or leaving that channel is a separate step in Google Play Store when you’re an Android user), then you might wish to change your flair and group memberships, as other community members might think you’re using a beta app when you report problems here. That’s totally up to you, though, and even if you make those changes you can join again at any time.
Any time I see someone reporting “Complete Motion Detected” notifications, I wonder if that person has “Other Motion” (and possibly “Other Sound”) selected for “NOTIFY” on the “Custom Detections” screen, in which case you might want to check something like this:
I’d probably double-check settings there for each of your affected Cams and turn off notifications for those generic motion events if you’re trying to use only Smart Detections with a subscription.
Looks like a have a list of things to check out today…Thanks!
Same thing has been happening to me since forever. Get the first photo notification and then the second shortly after of the video preview. I just want one!
Just an FYI, I was switching back to my Samsung device from my Pixel, wanted to do some testing, and started getting 2 notifications. My Pixel does not do this.
I had notification sound 2 selected in the app, so when I initially tested it notified me once. Note, I was testing my contact sensors. Soon after, I got a notification from my camera and received 2 notifications. I looked at my Settings on the phone for the app and saw it added Sound 1 in addition to Sound 2 and both were active. I turned off the Sound one option and am now getting one notification. I think this is a bug and have sent out the question to Wyze.
You may want to try turning off the notification you don’t want located in the App Info Area / Notifications Categories in the app. Here is my image showing the one I turned off.
Note: I only selected Sound 2 in the app, but it appears the camera’s may add Sound 1 and activate it.
Same here - exactly the same … forever!
