I remember when looking up all the connections to my Pan v3, two of them came back to these little no-name hosting companies. Turns out Wyze uses a couple 3rd parties to track “online status” so they can report that back to things like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple, etc. They use some sort of aggregator to do that function for them. Someone had some security in their router that was blocking these connections (it wasn’t an Xfinity router, some other brand). Those little hosting companies get blacklisted a lot due to their services being used for malicious things, then they give that IP to someone else later.
However I don’t see why this would stop it from being able to just view via the Wyze app, the person I mention above was not having any issues with the Wyze app when those IPs were blocked.
EDIT now that I think of it, they were intentionally blocking these IPs in their router, and everything worked fine (obviously if they were using one of those home assistants with their cameras that probably would not have worked).
Grapefruit:
I have the xb7 and always have worked until a couple months ago, started to Not connect remotely via wifi or data.
I hear about the advanced security thing, which I wouldn’t know how to disconnect.
I did buy this tp link router. But have not hooked it up yet. Probably cause I really don’t know what I’m doing.
TP-Link AXE5400 Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router (Archer AXE75)- Gigabit Wireless Internet Router, ax Router for Gaming, VPN Router, OneMesh, WPA3I’m hoping it’s just plug and play. Not real sure how to set up a bridge mode. I’m not gonna pretend I know how to do all this stuff.
I’m thinking I should get my own modem and stop renting from xfinity. I wouldn’t know which modem to buy. Not a gaming house. A few tv’s, 2 phones.Alexa, newer I pad and 11 wyze cameras and a couple new tp link cameras that ARE connecting remotely. Deciding whether to say goodbye to wise and go with tp link.
Are all these antennas on these type of routers? Just for look? or they do they really need to be there for connectivity. Any suggestions on a type brand model of modem, and or router, or I saw a modem router all in one, But then it had none of those little antennas. I’m thinking the antennas are gimmicky?
I appreciate anyone’s help.
Glenn
@puckingaround11 - If you are going to change out your Router and Modem, find a friend who can help you. It’s not necessarily hard but you could possibly stop your house’s internet entirely if you don’t do it correctly. Someone who is savvy will help you avoid common mistakes and ensure all is tuned right.
Advanced security can be disabled by logging into your xfinity account or using the xfinity app. You can google the step by step process.
The external antennas on a lot of routers are there for a reason, they provide better signal than smaller internal ones, and give you the flexibility to aim them. Given that it is a tri-band router, it will probably have 3 or 4 antennas for each band (sometimes they can combine 2 bands into a single set of antennas).
I gave some recommendations on modems and routers in a previous reply. If you already have the TP Link AXE one that is fine, a bit overkill for your needs probably. TP Link (as far as I know) does not include any filtering/antivirus but generally that isn’t a big concern, the router based filters (like Xfinity’s Advanced Security) rarely work well. Better to protect yourself at the endpoint like your phone, computer, etc. If you want to block something at the router it should have URL and IP filtering you can add if needed.
Before you convert everything to TP link, keep in mind Xfinity could very well block their server in advanced security at some point too, then you’re right back where you started (and they may have removed Wyze from the block by then).
They’re following the same route any company has to in order to get removed from their blacklist - submitting a form, following up and begging. I suspect part of the problem is that they are using various hosting companies and probably have to convince those hosting companies to work with Comcast also.
Getting off their list can be a nightmare. If it is in fact a firmware/hardware issue and not the blacklist, well that’s 100x worse. Unless they have a ton of customers complain to them directly they aren’t going to pay to fix or revise the firmware.
Yeah there are plenty of good solutions (none of them perfect since VPN can get around pretty much anything) but for the average user (defined as one using the ISP gateway typically) those aren’t really do-able.
Nah I’m saying if someone has something malicious that uses a VPN, or just wants to bypass your filtering, it is nearly impossible to keep up with a full list of VPN IPs and block them all. Obviously if you’re intentionally running your own VPN client on your PC then you know you’re bypassing stuff like Pihole, DNS filtering, etc.
This is nerd-speak. A Raspberry-Pi is a tiny computer that can do a MILLION custom things depending on the software you put on it. In this case, it can act as a Network DNS Sinkhole. Basically, making all those ads or malware redirections that can occur while you browse the web to go nowhere. The device sits at the entry of your network so all your devices at home get the benefit of protection instead of having to put software on every device inside your house. This is helpful because some devices can’t have anything installed on them to protect them.
I had an issue with this a few months ago but then it went away. I just noticed that it’s back again today. I have 3 Wyze Cam Outdoor v2. There’s a lot of posts here about Xfinity but I have Spectrum and I use my own Motorola modem and Netgear router.
Event recording works and I can view the events but now once again can’t view live when away from home. They say this is “In progress”
And on another note our recording cool down still keeps reverting to 1 minute if the base station is rebooted or internet connection is lost. And honestly I don’t think the whole cool down thing works anyway since I never longer videos when I should be.
Very frustrating and am now wishing I paid a little more for a different brand of camera.
I have the same issue : not able to connect to any of my cameras unless I am on the same WiFi network as my cameras. HOWEVER, here are my two work arounds.
1). Indirect Way.-- When I a
Was away from home WiFi network, I was able to see my cameras livestream using an android tablet connected through hotspot from my iPhone using my cellphone data.
More Direct way.-- I can use Alexa App on my iPhone to see my camera using cell data. No need to connect to my home wifi network.
There are a few posts pointing the issues might be related to certain WiFi routers or their recent fireware updates. My experience is they are not related. It seems like it is a Wyze app /IOS issue.
Wyze App on iPhone would not work when using cell data to connect. But using the same cell data I can connect to my cams through Alexa App or through another Android and Chromecast tablet hotspot to my iPhone.
