Has anyone else had a solar panel shipped to them with a mini USB plug along with a bird feeder camera that has a USB C port? Sloppy bundling.
I can’t get the live chat bot to open. I may try twitter.
Yes, the Battery Camera Pro is USB-C, you have to use the adapter cable that comes with the Solar Panel.
As stated above, there should be an Adapter with the solar panel for you use convert it to USB-C. If yours didn’t come with an adapter, please contact Support.
Thanks, I found the adapter. It was a birthday present for the missus, assembled during her party, and there might have been a wee bit of imbibing involved during assembly.
All is good now.
They provide the adapter but it isn’t the right-angle, water-resistant type that the Cam Pro comes with. Doesn’t that make it less than ideal if you are using it outside?
There is a 2nd mini cable that you use for the solar panel, it adapts the panel to USB-C. Not the tiny USB adapter dongle thing. It’s a cable.
That tiny cable has white velcro on it. Here it is on my birdhouse:
Where would I get that? My solar panels only came with the adapter.
So you didn’t get the USB-C Adapter cable that is listed on “What’s in the box” for the Solar Panel? Did you check all the stuff in the box? Maybe you set it to the side and didn’t realize what it was? You can buy one off Amazon if you need to.
The only USB cable in the box is a USB-A to USB-C for charging. It is not a Micro USB as it says in your screenshot. The adapter is a simply a straight adapter, not a cable.
BTW, on the site currently, there is no mention of a Micro USB.
@Earl.Automation screen shot is from the Solar panel Page. The solar panel is extra.
Yep, wrong screenshot…Below is “What’s in the box” for the Solar Panel.
It lists a Micro USB Adapter cable. This is the cable that comes out of the solar panel that CAN’T be removed.
And it lists a USB-C adapter cable. This is the cable that you need. It will be a female Micro USB to male USB-C.
If you are adamant you didn’t get it: then go on Amazon and buy an adapter like this:
Thanks. My only concern is that the USC-C into the camera won’t be watertight. I am thinking of going with a Micro-USB female to USB-A female (below) as it would be easier to waterproof those connections and I can still use the cameras watertight USB-C.
Another option is a bit of dielectric grease and/or electrical tape. They also make rubber tape specifically for sealing connections (often can find it at auto parts stores).
If it helps, I have multiple OG cams where the micro USB connection is exposed directly to the elements (the cam has a short pigtail off the back that you plug the microUSB into) and while they do have a rubber sleeve that seals that connection somewhat, a bit of dielectric grease and wrapping it in white electrical tape has been problem free for over 1.5 years now.
The only catch with the dielectric is you need to keep it away from the contacts, including making sure the metal micro USB connector makes a good ground. The easiest way to do that is insert it about half way, put a bead of grease around it, and push it in the rest of the way. But if you want to play it safe, tape is probably plenty.
I use silicone self fusing tape on two of my plug in cameras exposed directly to the rain/weather. Water proof, easy on and easy off.
Piling on:
If you go the heat shrink route get the stuff that is specifically designed to be waterproof, I believe it usually has a lining of silicone inside it. I didn’t go that way since I didn’t want to have to remove it if I needed to unplug/rearrange/etc.
I’ve seen that before but haven’t used it, I have a roll of sticky rubber stuff for cars that I’ve used on some stuff, but I wanted this to be white and inconspicuous, so the grease and white electrical tape has worked well for that.
On my Panv3s I put a little dielectric grease around the rubber on the right angle connector, so it seals it to the camera body but doesn’t get down into the contacts.
